Venus is a little buggy, sort of windoze98 style (but, of course, the M$ "OS" is a real piece of crap). I would like a rock solid distribution for the next Mandrake release, as Festen was. Anyway, Venus with all it bugs is better than RH6.

I'm not sure if this applies to your system, but I use the XBF server for my i740 chipset, and it places the generated xf86config file in a different location than the original one. ( under /etc/ instead of /etc/X11/ --this is from memory, so I could be wrong ) It may be worth checking to see if you have more than one xf86config file. Ben I also got my TT fonts to work. [newbie] RE; WordPerfect Printer Driver's
I have just installed Wordperfect 8. Seems quite nice, BUT useless to me unless I can find a print driver for my BJC-600 Canon. I see Corel is up to date on the drivers I have found on there web site. List the printer but only for an older version and a dos driver to boot. Anyone have any ideas as to were this driver might be located. Or do we just install Star Office. thanks for any and all advice, ...Daryl ( a Linux wanabee)

[newbie] Resolution, please help!
Hello, I just purchased Linux Mandrake "The Complete Operating System" v6.0 and I've had no problems installing at all, except one thing. My monitor or video card are not in the lists, I know the setting and set it up manually, but when I get into Linux's desktop the resolution is low and the desktop extends FAR off the screen and it will not allow me to pan across the desktop at all. I cannot change the resolution because I cannot see what I am doing. Please let me know how to do so, I would like it to be in at least 800x600 res and in 24bit. Go to Creative's website http://developer.soundblaster.com/linux/ and download the X-server for that video card. That should help things quite a bit. Re: [newbie] I'm back..... and with a few problems......
Try running xf86setup again. Near the end of the setup it will ask if it is ok to overwrite an existing setup file. Make a note of where the file is located. After using the XBF xf86setup I had to go in and manually setup my ttfonts path and set my default resolution. To set up ttfonts, add this line to your config file : FontPath "unix/:-1" ( I'm not looking at the file, but it should be clear where this line goes ) To set your default resolution ( for 16bpp ) add the line DefaultColorDepth 16 Under #Screen sections ( this is just a sample, salt to taste ) Monitor "Multi sync" DefaultColorDepth 16 Subsection "Display" Hope this helps, as I had the same problems just a few weeks ago, Ben Yes I have an i740 too, and use XBF for it. Re: [newbie] mounting other drives
Add a mount point in FSTAB for the Win98 partition with the filesystem type of "vfat." This will allow you to access the partition (primarily in read-only mode.) Basically, if you don't know how, you'll create a mount point (say /mnt/win98 or maybe /mnt/dos or just /win98) and use the existing stuff in there as a pattern for how to write the partition entry. It'll probably be /dev/hda for your MSDOS/Win98 partition, btw. That should eliminate the DNS server from the equation. If that returns in a reasonable amount of time (about 200-250 ms for me with a 56K modem connection) then the problem is likely the DNS server itself.
