I don't think VMWare boots from cdrom by default, go in the BIOS

On my machines, vmware won't boot from cd unless I configure the drive with
 legacy emulation.

Hi Greg, I've just found out that in Mdk10.1, I can boot my vmware.
How do I set the drive into legacy mode?
Thanks,

[newbie] Soundblaster Live! 24-bit supported in 10.1?

2004-12-09 Thread Rick Kunath
Does anyone have the Creative labs SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit card
running in Mandrake 10.1 under alsa?

The Mandrake supported hardware matrix has model numbers that don't seem
to correspond to any model numbers on the Creative web site.

I am in the market for a new low-end sound card and considered this card.
I know the Live! 5.1 card works with the emu10k chipset, but these don't
seem to be available any more.

Other recommendations and advice welcomed?

I am using the live value as it was called from about 6 or 7 years
ago without any problems. As far as i know the live cards should work
without problems under 10.1 Aside from the occasional volume level
problem which is easy solved this card has always worked for me.

[newbie] xfig problem

2004-12-09 Thread Cezary Morga
Hi folks.

I have this strange problem with xfig. It doesn't export any of my
schemes. It shows no problems but the file is empty. Also, when trying
to print the job gets queued but there's no printing.

What might be the problem? I've read somewhere that there was similar
issue in RH6.2 due to some package build error or somethin`. I'm using
xfig-3.2.4-5mdk from 10.0 and transifg-3.2.4-3mdk.

That's the disc 4 that Mandrake won't give away; you'll have to join the

going to be running a server you don't want KDE anyway, right?

Just to clarify, CD4 has extras like commercial programs and kde3.3, kde3.2 is
still available on the normal 3 cd download set, just choose to skip it for
now. Later, you can download kde3.3.1 from a public Club mirror (but not the

Nope, they send you a series of e-mails for about a month before you expire
encouraging you to renew. If you do nothing, then you switch to 'Alumni'

For anybody that enjoyed the packages I made for the Amarok 1.2 beta1 release,
beta 2 is out, and I have made packages for 10.0 and 10.1. These required an
update to taglib 1.3.1 which you'll need to grab too. There is a package

other.

I'm making them available for other people that want to take part in the beta

putting an ide raid card in latter on (after xmass) and adding dsks to

Yes will do. I also have a gigabyte ga7n400 pro mother board with on board
sata and ide raid. The gigabyte web site has drivers for mdk 9 and rh 8 - 9
for the ide raid but no sata raid drivers. so i presume mandrake have
updated ide raid drivers or the driver for mdk 9 works.
I don't think the driver for mdk 9 and rh 8-9 will work on mdk 10.1. The
promise ide raid that I have has only drivers for mdk 9. I have tried it on
mdk 9.2, but not good. It is so since the binary driver module is compiled
only for mdk 9 kernel.

Thought I would try
MandrakeMove on it first.Fingers crossed.
This should be good. If gigabyte has the whole source code of the driver,
not the source code for the hooking (or whachamacallit) program which is
just used for linking the binary driver module and the kernel, then I
believe mdk 10.1 has it.

[newbie] Install can't find CDROM

start up the boot floppy works fine, but it stops suddenly, saying that
it can't find a CDROM. How can I tell it where to find the CDROM?
