[newbie] Printing with STAR OFFICE
Help! Please! I have 7.2 installed and can print with the following: KWord AbiWord Advanced Editor Text Editor Dia KIllustrator Sketch The printer works great in those, however in StarOffice it doesnt print. I have changed the "connect" to qtcups and to xpp, when I try to print the qtcups interface comes up but it doesnt print. It says print job:x, (x being a number depending on how many times I try) and yet nothing happens. I have been reading through alot of past mail and the Mandrake user stuff but cant find anything that applies to this. I am not on a network and the printer is hooked up to lp0 parrell port on my computer.
[newbie] Re: StarOffice 5.2 printing
Thanks for the tips for getting Star Office to print. It almost works. I changed the "connect" settings to "xpp" and "qtcups" and both will bring up a printer screen. However it still doesn't print out of the printer, even though it says the job is printing or has been sent. I can print out the email I get with Netscape and I can print out of KWord and AbiWord with no problem. Any other ideas??? HELP! Thanks in advance, Ed P.S. KWord is most impressive KDE 2.0 is very cool along with all the Office programs. If you haven't used KWord chk it out, its the best I have seen yet as far a word processors go. Office 2000 better look out!
[newbie] StarOffice 5.2 printing
I installed Mandrake 7.2 and have the updates installed so I am running the current version of KDE and CUPS etc. I can print to my Epson Stylus Color 400 printer with KWord and the test page when configuring a printer with DrakeConf works just fine. I cant get StarOffice to print at all. It says it has printed but my printer does nothing. When I used Mandrake 7.1 I didnt have this problem. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks in advance, Ed

Thanks R.Booysen As I understand it, winmodems are not supported. NOT AT ALL!!!, go get a external 3com USRobotics V.90 and you will never regret it.
[newbie] usb backportpatch
I have tried to install the backport patch usb-2.4.0-test2-pre2-for-2.2.16-v3.diff.gz when I use the patch command in the terminal it says that it is not a recognized command. Is thepatchcommand not a command in the bash shell? Ed

Re: [[newbie] More RAMproblems]
You might check the computer bios and see if in the chipset features there is a "Memory Hole At 15M Addr." or someting of that nature. If it is not disabled Linux will only recognize a small portion of your ram. Another words DISABLE the memory hole's address range of the ISA cycle. Hope it helps you out, ED "Payne Stanifer" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I added the line append="mem=128mb" to my lilo.conf and I ran the /sbin/lilo , but Linux still doesn't see my 128 MB of RAM. Re: [Re: [newbie] changing font] WOW whata dif
Ok, I changed the font to 100dpi and wow what an improvement. I had to go to the /etc/X11/fs/config file with the advanced text editor and switcheded everything that was 75 to 100 and all that was 100 to 75. Of course you have to install the 100dpi fonts off the installation CD. Then I shut down and restarted and it is wonderful. Thanks Tom for the hints toward the right direction. At 800X600 the 75dpi fonts are fine, but above that the 75dpi fonts are too small on my 17" monitor. Now it is great. [newbie] screen size
I am running Linux Mandrake 6.0 with the 2.2.9-27 kernel. Everything seems to work fine but I have this question. The same that many others have had. I want to run my video at 800X 600 but it doesnt fit the screen. I have to use the mouse to move the screen around to see all of the desktop. I have to run at 1024X 786 in order to view the whole desktop. I have rerun the Xconfigurator and I still have the same thing. I use KDE almost exclusively. I have a 17" monitor. I have a Creative Labs Graphics Blaster RIVIA TNT 16mb (PCI) video card. I use the Xconfigurator RIVIA TNT driver. I choose the 800 X 600 and the 1024 X 786 at 24bit I can switch between the two by clt alt + with no problems I have no problem getting into console mode and running Xconfigurator. But what do I need to do in order to make the 800 X 600 fit the screen? Thanks in advance, Ed Santiago
[newbie] Scanners
I have a Mustek 600 III EP Plus scanner. I don't know how to configure it in Linux. Star Office says it need SANE in order to work. How do I implement SANE? Or will this Scanner even work with Mandrake-Linux 6.0? Its a parallel port scanner. Ed

Unless I missed something, I don't think it's there. Scanning is the ONLY thing I need Win95 for anymore. Everything else, I do in Linux, better and faster! Alan I found the sane site and you are right its not listed. Thanks for the response. Hopefully there will come some drivers for the scanner, or I will just have to get one that is compatible I guess. Ed

[newbie] HP-8100 CDR-RW
I have Mandrake-Linux 6.0 installed and have downloaded all the updates and have been able to format a floppy give it a file system transfer some files between Windows and Linux. I reconfigured my kernel to the AMD K6 processor. I have played around with the thing but I can't seem to mount my HP-8100 CDR-RW.
