[newbie] Brazilian keybord and Quake 1

1999-09-09 Thread Joao C Agostini

Hello all

I want to clear two subjects on keyboard:
a) I am Brazilian and I use a standard keyboard for my language called
ABNT2, somebody of Mandrake could tell me how I do to use this keyboard
in Venus, mainly in the prompt...
b) the version 6.1 has support, from the installation, to the keyboard
ABNT2?
In Brazil a magazine (PCMaster) of this month it threw Mandrake 6 and a
lot of people bought and liked, but she has been having problems with
the keyboard that I have and with the accents, that are many in my
language. I suggest you enter in contact with Conectiva (dealer
Brazilian of RedHat) for us to use the correction that they use for the
keyboard ABNT2.

Did I install Quake I in Mandrake but does he never work, always
restraint when it carries the program (many other people that are using
bought Mandrake of the mentioned magazine, are they having the same
problem), some suggestion of the why?
Thank you.

Re: [newbie] How do I install my scanner Umax S-6E?

1999-08-23 Thread Joao C Agostini

Hello Martin

Excuse the delay in giving a return your message. I went to the place
that you indicated me and
I read the configurations for Umax and, finally, I understood what was
the scsi genric card. I thought that was a module to be carried by the
kernel, but, actually, it is the form like Sane works with the scsi
card of Umax. I followed the recommendations and, finally, my scanner
worked in Linux Mandrake. I only need, now, to find the best options of
configuration of the card. In fact, I take advantage of to ask somebody
that has the same scanner could send me the options used to configure
it, it would abbreviate the time I spend with the attempts.
I thank your help a lot, as the one of the other companions that
answered. Forced to all.

From the Sane umax-scsi documentation at
 http://www.Wolfsburg.DE/~rauch/sane/sane-umax-config-doc.html
It shows to use a driver for an NCR5380 SCSI controller. The sample command
 they show is
  insmod g_NCR5380 ncr_irq=255 ncr_addr=0x280 dtc_3181e=1
You may have to play around with the ncr_addr part. They list a whole bunch
of IO addresses the controller card can use.

  Hi

Thank you for your concern. I had already seen Sane and in its
documents I read that was necessary that the kernel should have the
module for a generic scsi board, for that I asked the list if somebody
knows which is that module and as I do to carry him/it. Who can me that
  to answer he/she would thank.

   Joao,
Before spending the money on a new SCSI card, go to the SANE page and
  try
their drivers. They list your scanner and the controller it comes with
  as
supported.. Their site is at http://www.mostang.com/sane/

Hello

Thank you very much for the information and for the attention.
  It is
a
sad news, but I will take your advice because, I find, this will be
  the
only form of doing my scanner to work. But, even so, I would like
something to know on which module for a generic board scsi, do you
  know?
Thank you again.

  Did I

The SCSI board that ships with the S-6E is a completely worthless
  piece
of crap and should be tossed into the nearest trash can. Pick up a
cheap Adaptec and install the kernel drivers for it and you'll be
  fine
with that scanner. I used to run the same here with an AHA-1524
  card
(at least, I think that was the number of the card, it's been
  awhile).

Re: [newbie] hard drive problems

1999-08-11 Thread Joao C Agostini

Hi

I have the same problem and I didn't update anything. I bought my
Mandrake 6.0 (Venus) in CheapBytes.
Is it necessary to update some thing to avoid that? If yes, which are
the files and where do I catch them? Thank you.

Ok, this really sucks. My hard drive isn't unmounting properly when i

By any chance, are you using Mandrake 6.0-1 without having updated the
 kernel and initscripts package?
