[newbie] Q: sndconfig
I have this weird problem: I run sndconfig (all versions I tried its the same error) as root and in a certain time we gives this error: "It wasnt possible to play audio" "An error has occourred in the opening of" "/dev/audio" what can I do?
[newbie] (...) redimentioning question
Is there any way to make my screen smaller (or to make things smaller in my screen) without changing the resolution? because my screen doesnt support a higher resolution than this... :\\ A friend of mine told me it was: "ctrl" + "alt" + "+/-" depending if you wanted to enlarge or smallen your screen but It's not working... I'm using mdk7.2 I dont think its necessary to refer my graph card... thx
[newbie] (...) Sound card problem
I have a OPTI 82C924 and I have mdk7.2. the sndconfig of mdk7.2 it's too good for my card so I used the one in mdk7.1 but keeps giving me the same error. when I exit (yes, I listen to the sound) but then I exit and he says this: MAD16 / Mozart: Invalid Midi port 0x0 and YES I LISTEN TO THE AU AND THE MIDI SAMPLES. but then a friend told me to do this: pnpdump pnpdump /etc/isapnp.conf isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf ok and the thing worked, I could listen to sounds, and I could boot and then I turned him on again, I still could listen to sounds. But the problem is when I reboot without making the reboot command... Like... "RESET" or "POWER" (sometimes the electricity goes down here in my house, so...) then the in the boot he failes to the 2 devices :\\ and I have to do the sndconfig and those 3 lines all over again and reboot. isn't there any way to record the configuration? for saving me trouble every time I force reboot to make the 4 commands again and re-reboot...? thx
[newbie] (...) FINALLY!!!
I am a happy man! finally I made it to install mandrake 7.2 and running net with him! :)) I just wanted to ask 1 more thing. [newbie] (...) (poogle) sndconfig from 7.1 to 7.2

[newbie] (...) 7.2 nightmare setup (partitions)
my problem is this: after I boot with the disk7 to the 7.2 instalatio I get this really cool screen with the options F1 or Enter. After choosing "Enter" he detects the cdrom, initializes it and enters the setup process (another cool screen). he asks the language, the expert/costum thing and then detects the keyboard, the mouse, etc. then asks me to choose what type of partition do I want: if I want to delet windows, if I want to use the free space in the windows partition, or the expert. I choose "use free space" and then I does this: "Computing windows file system bounds"he wait here a while and then a window appears saying some like "it's advisable to run scandisk and scanreg (opt) before entering this stage. press OK when ready"and there are 2 buttons: "OK" and "Cancel". But when I try to click on any of them it doest work! the mouse works but it's not possible to click on any button! even in the "screen change" buttons... crtl+alt+del doesn't work to... I already tried to make a scandisk, a scanreg, the 2 types of scandisk, in DOS, in windows... and it keeps crashing in the same stage... can U help me? I tried to make the partitions in the "expert" mode but if I try to make any other he deletes the windows one... help...? thx
[newbie] (...) Error Installing 7.2
after the graphical menu "F1" or "Enter" I get a black screen with blue windows detecting things but then I get the error message: "cannot mount cdrom" and then another warning saying that wasn't supposed to happen and that he will reboot my machine... why doesnt he accepts my cdrom and if this continues how can I boot the instalation from the HD? c:\mandrake\dosutils\autoboot\mdkinst\harddisk.bat ?? thx
[newbie] (...) Problem with partition (in install)
the system stops at the the partition part. when I choose the option "use the free space in the windows part" he detects one more thing and then asks me if I ran the scanreg in windows and if i didn't tells me to run it and when I'm sure to press "ok" but the buttons dont work and the system is stoped and I have to reset. what can I do?? (yes, I already ran the scandisk in win...) thx

[newbie] (...) reinstaling MDK 7.1
I have this problem: I only have 1 disk and I have 2 Gb for mdk and 4 for win and every time I try to erase the mdk partition the 2 Gb space of mdk dont become 1 with the 4 gb of windows forming the inicial 6 Gb! and if I try to install linux again without erasing the partition he doesnt detect the original 2Gb partition and I have to divide the 4Gb for win in 2 again, are you getting the point? the question I have is what do I have to do to erase the mdk partition and that space be joined to the win particion. did you get it...? if not answer anyway for me to try to explain in a diferent way. thx
[newbie] (...) XF86Setup / xf86config problem
I know that XF86Setup is case sensitive but the problem I have is with xf86config. this one IN NOT case sensitive and the "command not found" errors he gives me are internal (i think) it's not the same thing has when you write some shit on the console and he says "command not found" but this one gives me a list of 5 or 6 lines saying something like this: Modeselect (...) : command not found (other things) (...): command not found how can I restore the original xf86config to at least running him properly?

[newbie] Paul (...) Sound Card Configutation
You could do a search for the opti number on Google.com. Perhaps there is a site where you can find more info. The chipset used is the same as used on the Mozart 16bit card, and the specs for the Midiport are probably off in this set. 0x0 would mean that the midi port is configured on port 0x0, which is no address. Perhaps the card has no midi support? Paul so if they are off how can I turn them defenetly off? because I configure it all and I listen to the sounds and then I exit, he gives this error and the configuration was again wrong and I cant save the data! help me again? thx
[newbie] Paul (...) Sound Card Configutation
Hmmm.. ?? You mean that while configuring the card with sndconfig, you can hear the midi sample that is played? Very weird... Paul YES! THAT'S IT! I can hear the man talking and then the midi sample (freq up then freq down) but when I exit he says: "Invalid midi port 0x0" dont i need to change the attributes of some file to be write enable or something like that? I dont know what to do! :\\ thx
[newbie] (...) Sound Card Configutation
That card is running in PNP mode. The only thing I can tell you to do is the following to see if it works. Type this at the console: pnpdump Your soundcard should show up on there: Then do this: pnpdump /etc/isapnp.conf then, isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf REBOOT and see if it works. Have you disabled PNP is your BIOS? Is there a way you could disable PNP on the soundcard? PNP? I dont know what that is but I think I didnt disabled anything... and I dont know if there is a way to disable it either... so... ur talking to a lame :) But I'll see if your advice does the trick. else I will be back in a minute (again, and again ultim it works) thx :)
