Re: [newbie] MandrakeUpdate wont work
I didn't notice any followup postings on this topic...is anyone else having these problems? I sure am. When i add a source it looks like it works but then later disappears. Also, the update for mirror sites doesn't work. What gives?... Thanks for any insight anyone has... To try and get round this I found the address of an FTP site on Mandrakes web site and input this manually. The adding source thingy seemed to work and the site appeared on the list of sources, but then when I hit ok I just reloaded my CD sources and my new source address had disappeared fom the list of sources. Very grateful for any explanations or suggestions on how to get this working Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://.mandrakestore.com
[newbie] KDE theme manager not present
I recently upgraded to KDE version 2.1 It went fine and I was happy. However, I noticed that the supposed Theme Manager is missing. I know to look under Control CenterLook N Feel, but I swear I don't have that module available. In anticipatio to your questions, yes I downloaded and installed every KDE RPM and didn't skip any. Anything else KDE-related that I run I can confirm to be 2.1. Any ideas? Anyone know which d/l Theme Manager is in so maybe I can try to re-install it? TIA for any ideas anyone has...
Re: [newbie] Installing VMware
My license installation was tricky, too. One figures that it would be easy to simply put a file of a certain name in the correct folder and have it work. Not. I ended up getting it to work -- FINALLY. One thing to try is to name the text file "license2.0" (without the quotes, of course) instead of just "license". I found that fact buried somewhere but it ended up helping me. Actually I tried so many different ways that I'm not sure if that alone is what ended up making it work, but it's a step in the right direction. Regardless, the fact that mine works fine should inspire you to keep trying because it is SWEET when it finally works. On Tuesday 20 March 2001 08:01 pm, Joe Redd wrote: Hello again everyone. I have installed a trial version of VMWare at work under Windows 2000 professional, and it works quite nicely. However, I am having some difficulty with the trial version of VMWare for LM7.2 The version that came on the cd's wouldn't install, said the package was corrupt. So, I downloaded it over again. That went ok, and I installed the .rpm ok, then ran the vwmare-config.pl file with minimal incident (needed to compile a new module for my kernel) and I even setup like I did at work to boot into windows under Linux, but, it says I don't have a valid key. I have the trial key, and i put the file in the vmware directory, and i tried renaming it to just say license, but nothing is working for me. Is quite annoying. I even made the vmware folder hidden, which seemed to be what the instructions wanted. So, I just don't know what to do at this point. Maybe someone can give guidence? Re: [newbie] MS Outlook
There is a companion piece of software to KMail called kmailcvt. It is a utility that lets you import various address book types, including MS Outlook Express among others. The address book in KMail is still fairly primitive when compared to Outlook, but it's getting there. One thing you have to be sure to do after performing an import is to go into: SettingsConfigurationAppearanceAddress Book tab and from there change the layout from the traditional layout to another layout such as KAB. That's the only way your recently imported contacts are viewable. Re: [newbie] Netscape takes an eternity
1)Netscape in and of itself takes longer to open than one would normally expect from an application. I would guess it is in some part due to how bloated the program has become. I finally gave up on Netscape for this very reason and began using Opera, which opens almost instantly. 2)Some of the problem could also be due to whatever you have your home page set to. If it's a page that takes a long time to load in general (ie a portal site that dynamically constructs a page based on your user preferences, like "my.yahoo.com" or something), then this could slow Netscape from opening in a timely manner. Re: [newbie] kde2.1
True, true. All of L-M's sites/mirrors are slow in offering updates. They still (as of this posting) don't have the recently released CUPS security update, nor do they have today's "sudo' security fix (and one other whose name escapes me, starting with a Z). What gives? And anyone know why MandrakeUser.org has been down for at least several days?
