[newbie] Copy paste

2004-06-19 Thread Marek Pawinski
Hi
Anyone having problems with copying and pasting using the middle button
with KDE and Mozilla 1.6/1.7 ? Works fine with the other apps but with
Mozilla i have to select the text, right click and then select copy,
klipper does not catch it when i just highlight the text with the mouse.
Weird thing is when i shut down Mozilla copying and pasting works for a
while then stops again.

Works ok here,

mdk10.0 OE
2.6
kde3.2
mozilla1.6

But I did experience that problem in a earlier version of kde,
mozilla, mdk. I did not find the fix :-( after moving to mdk10.0
klipper seemed to work fine with mozilla.

I find that I have to hold down the shift key, as well as the mouse
mutton in some applications to make cut and past work. You could try that.

Mine is set to

Perhaps putting a check on the below option might help.

Hi Anne. I can bring up klipper after highlighting text in eterm and grab it

Easiest to copy from Evo that I found: right-click the link, select
'copy link location', switch to browser, do Ctrl-L / Ctrl-V (works for
netscape and mozilla anyway)

Re: [newbie] Copy Paste

2002-01-03 Thread Anuerin G. Diaz

if you are using vim then you can make use of the middle button to
paste highlighted text into vi.
now if you want to do it the old-fashioned way (pure keyboard) then
here are some tips...
- vi makes use of buffers (specifically the unnamed-buffer) to store
deleted and copied text. think of it as the clipboard.
- everytime you delete an entry using x, d, or dd, the entry in the
unnamed-buffer is overwritten.
- to copy text the command is y (short for yank). like any ordinary
vi command, you can precede it with a marker or a number to amplify its
effect (10y to yank 10 characters, 10wy to yank 10 words). to copy whole
lines, use the yy command. precede it with a number to denote the number
of lines to be yanked (the direction is usually downwards but my
memory is rusty and i cant remeber how to yank lines of text upward. ;-)
- to paste the contents of the unnamed-buffer, press p to paste it after
the cursor (or line? i cant remember correctly as i am in windows right
now) and P to paste it before.
- delete/yank is more powerful when used with markers. that is another
topic and i still have work to do. ;-)
NOTE: it is understood that before executing
the command shortcuts that you are out of the editing-mode. press the escape
key twice to make sure. ;-)

ciao!

If you are in insert mode, you can highlight a block of text, then
click your middle mouse button to paste at cursor location.

Another way is with yank and put. For example, you can copy 3 lines
beginning with the line where the cursor is with the command 3yy. Then
move to where you wish to paste it and type p.

For cutting instead of copying, use delete and put. For example,
you can delete 3 lines beginning with the line where the cursor is with
the command 3dd. Then move to where you wish to paste it and type p.

  Sylpheed.

You are probably trying to paste between KDE, Gnome and other X apps,
which can be a real pain in the ass, because they don't generally use the
same paste buffer (They could if they really wanted to...).

No, within the same applications, in this case Evolution or Sylpheed.
In their defense, they're both in early development, BUT...

BUT, 95% of the time, what you want to paste is just plain text. So try
this: select the text to be pasted with the mouse. Don't hit CTL-C. Move
the focus to (click with the mouse in) another window, but be careful not
to move the mouse with the button down and create a selection in the new
window. Hit the mouse *middle* button to paste the text in. If you have a
2-button mouse, hit left and right button simultaneously. In a standard
installation you can even paste to and from terminals like this.

...THIS WORKS! Thanks for the tip.

It takes about 5 minutes to get used to this, after which there will be
much slapping of foreheads and exclaiming But this is so much easier than
windows! I find cutting and pasting in windows intolerably clumsy now.

For example, If I click on a URL in Kmail, it automagically opens it in
Konqueror, which is fine. But if I want to open it in Mozilla, I select
the address in Kmail, FIRE up Mozilla and middleclick the address into the
 Mozilla's address edit box.

 Try it. You'll like it.

Copy text to the clipboard by holding down the left mouse button and dragging
it over the text you wish to copy. Then go to where you wish to paste and
single click the center mouse button/wheel. Also by clicking on the Klipper
icon (bottom right, next to clock) you can select from the clipboard

Ok the first question is about copy-paste functions from clipboard in
KDE. For example if I copy the address to send mail to on this list and
want to paste it into netscape address book how do I accomplish this.
The right click doesn't bring up any options on this screen. I believe
the key to paste is ctrl-v but no luck.

This is one thing about KDE that bugs me. Copying and pasting is not
consistent from application to application. KDE has its own central
clipboard, but not every program uses it. Netscape/Mozilla use their own
clipboard.

K programs also tend to count highlighting text as copying it. So what I
often do is highlight text I want to copy and hit ctrl+C. Then I highlight
the text I want to be replaced, and this in turn sticks this new text into
the clipboard, so hitting ctrl+V to paste it does nothing. Frustrating
doesn't even begin to describe it :)

So, unfortunately, cutting and pasting in K is shoddy at best. Hopefully
this will be fixed in a future release. I also hope someone comes up with a
terminal emulator that supports copying and pasting.

Can any gnome/icewm/etc users share what copying/pasting is like? Better
than K? I'd consider switching just for this.

2000-07-18 Thread Joan Tur

Hallo!
I've noticed that doing copy paste in Netscape 4.70 it hangs sometimes...
but my question is: is copy paste CTRL+INS and SHIFT+INS (as OS/2
and GuinDOS)?
Thanks.
