Re: [newbie] Corel Linux
Thought I'd give it a try - CD on front of PC Plus here in the UK. It's now been removed and my beta copy (Cassini) of Mandrake 6.1 re-installed. It may have been me but I couldn't get kppp to connect properly (worked perfectly first time when I re-installed Mandrake). The only thing I liked was the way the graphics set up by itself. Loading was like Win98 - there's more fun watching paint dry - and I thought was very slow compared with Mandrake. They are advertising Corel Linux Standard Edition here in UK for £58.74 (about $90 US) and here's one person who won't be buying it. Happy New Year to all. John the Nadger http://mklinux.cjb.net
Re: [newbie] Corel Linux
Have you tried to log into the Windows side as user "root" with the same password you used in LINUX? If you are logged in as root on the LINUX box and also log into the Windows as root, (that's the default), it should show a good two way connection. Also, I gather you're in the same workgroup on both sides? The default name is "WORKGROUP". Do check the Windows "Users" and "Passwords" to ensure things match. Mr. Gardner brought up something I hadn't thought of yet. My first try at this showed the LINUX box from Windows 98, but not the reverse. I'm trying to set up a stable LINUX box to network my systems and it's proving frustrating. No experience with the OS. Now that I know where I want to go I still have to get a good feel for what needs to be installed. Soon as I get one part working I find something else I need. Well, good luck and let us all know what you did to fix the problem. B. B. "Joseph S. Re: [newbie] Corel Linux
Check the samba site, Don't see the regkey. Anyway I think I can find that key. Right now the corel samba is working so I copied my sambconf to the mandrake 6.0 venus box and smb passwords and now I can see the mandkrake Linux box in my Netwwork Neighborhood in my NT box and when I click on it it brings up //Localdomain/jrusso connect as Password but when I ennter the password is says paaword is inorrect by ttried all the passworks on th NT and Linux box. THe Corel Samba is woring both ways. Re: [newbie] Corel Linux
It started bad by not seeing my mouse. I had to keep rebooting it until it would load the driver sometimes as many as 5 times. Then it refused to use any partitions i had made saying I had no /root. But could offer no way to add /root. I already had /root. Finally had to delete the partitions and let it make its own. It made only /root and /swap not the setup I like. Then when I tried any type of custom install by picking the packages it will go to 98% and stall. Did this 5 times Finally got it to work by using the default stupid person install. Now I have like 5 apps and no email program I can find. On the other hand the Samba setup was great. Jeanette Russo At 09:01 PM 12/28/1999 -0500, Hugh Semmler wrote: Can I ask what went wrong? Jeanette Worked fine for me Who ever said check that your hardware is compatible sure was right. (sorry, I couldn't resist ;)) IMHO you ain't missing much, Tried it for a few days - then back to MDK 6.1. The only thing I miss from Corel is the app that let you adjust your video settings within X - that was cool. The free/dload version doesn't have 1/2 the apps that MDK's has, IMHO with the .13-22 kernel Netscape 4.7 MDK is just as stable Warren.

Kinda of Off Topic Here - but Corel LINUX is out today. The Corel FM extension on KDE looks nice. Anyway, Just an Observation
