Ok...here's something to try - open a term (or whatever) and navigate to
your /usr/lib/xine directory - make sure it exists (I'm sure it does)
and then go into your plugins directory, then into the 1.0.0/post - make
sure those exist...

Now, that thar fully qualified path should reside within your
/etc/ld.so.conf file - as does in mine:

## /etc/ld.so.conf ##

/usr/kerberos/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/lib/qt2/lib
/usr/lib/sane
/usr/lib/qt-1.45/lib
/usr/lib/wine
/usr/lib/mysql
/usr/lib
/usr/local/lib
/usr/lib/qt-3.0.5/lib
/usr/local/java/lib
/usr/local/qt3-gcc2.96/lib
/usr/local/lib/xine/plugins/1.0.0/post
/usr/lib/OpenOffice.org1.0/program
/usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib/

##

Run ldconfig from a term, then try again.

Now I was having problems with xine a while back and in the end, after
loosing more hair than usual, I found that to be the culprit...so give
that a go, tell us how it works.

need the xine_d4d_plugin, available from PLF. The Captain CSS website used

J.R.S. - Instead of Xine and the heavy CPU load it puts on a systems resources, why
don't you try Video Lan Client? It's much lighter, handles a variety of source inputs
including Satellite, and runs smoother. I've been trying Xine and Ogle on an AMD 1800+
with 1.5 Gb's of ram and they run like a snail compared to VLC. Optionally, you can
also download the server or mini-server rpms from their site and run your DVD, etc.,
from a different system ie; server located somewhere else on your network. I don't
recommend that you do this with a wireess network, but a hard-wired network should be
just fine.

John,

Start xine from the CML.
That way you'll get very clear error messages as to what's going on.

I've got xine working quit happily on my 9.0 box.

Good luck,

Well, I do'nt have a source for an howto, but this is how I do it. I
install the dvdnav, decss, and other plugin stuff that mplayer config
can pick up like real and ffmpeg and win32 codecs.

I use: libdvdcss devel rpm from ogle, a divx4linux source tarball,
and a libdvdread devel rpm from probably that big xine site.

Then you need to recompile mplayer or xine. I suggest mplayer cuz
it's the easiest. Then it will read encrypted dvds. I even have my
dvd player scsi emulated and it makes no diff. You might need to
make a symlink from it to /dev/dvd.

But it's really nothing much to it. You may have some trouble with
mplayer not starting at first - check your font permissions. Good
luck.

Ok...here's something to try - open a term (or whatever) and navigate to
your /usr/lib/xine directory - make sure it exists (I'm sure it does)
and then go into your plugins directory, then into the 1.0.0/post - make
sure those exist...

Now, that thar fully qualified path should reside within your
/etc/ld.so.conf file - as does in mine:

## /etc/ld.so.conf ##

/usr/kerberos/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/lib/qt2/lib
/usr/lib/sane
/usr/lib/qt-1.45/lib
/usr/lib/wine
/usr/lib/mysql
/usr/lib
/usr/local/lib
/usr/lib/qt-3.0.5/lib
/usr/local/java/lib
/usr/local/qt3-gcc2.96/lib
/usr/local/lib/xine/plugins/1.0.0/post
/usr/lib/OpenOffice.org1.0/program
/usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib/

##

Run ldconfig from a term, then try again.

Now I was having problems with xine a while back and in the end, after
loosing more hair than usual, I found that to be the culprit...so give
that a go, tell us how it works.

Cheers and beers!

Yes, we're all anti-american terrorists who plan to make the
US economy collapse by inventing lots of new words which will
have to be added to the dictionary, making the US economy
unable to support the ever-growing dictionaries and ensuring
the Americans will be unable to (learn to) spell, leaving them
dead in the water if there's ever a linguistic war between
them and the UK.

[newbie] DeCSS

2003-01-17 Thread Anne Wilson
I would have thought that after the ruling last week that it is perfectly
reasonable and legal to watch videos that you have bought and paid for, it
would now be easy to find information about DeCSS, but it turns out not to be
so. Since I find that my DVD player will play some disks and not others I
decided that now was the time to look at this, but all the addresses I have
seen seem to have been taken off the websites, closed down or moved away.

Assuming this is no longer liable to embarrass Mandrake in any way, can
anyone, on list or offlist, point me at a source?

Anne, as I'm sure you know, nothing is going to stop anyone from either
making copies of their DVD's or whatever - so it's just a matter of
digging a bit deeper.

Is it that you want a particular lib?

A Mexican newspaper reports that bored Royal Air Force pilots stationed
on the Falkland Islands have devised what they consider a marvelous new
game. Noting that the local penguins are fascinated by airplanes, the
pilots search out a beach where the birds are gathered and fly slowly
along it at the water's edge. Perhaps ten thousand penguins turn their
heads in unison watching the planes go by, and when the pilots turn
around and fly back, the birds turn their heads in the opposite
direction, like spectators at a slow-motion tennis match. Then, the
paper reports The pilots fly out to sea and directly to the penguin
colony and overfly it. Heads go up, up, up, and ten thousand penguins
fall over gently onto their backs.

The PLF (Penguin Liberation Front (I think)) has a DeCss rpm but I have
not been able to get it working yet.
