[newbie] isdn modem

2004-09-18 Thread Themis Themis
Hello everyone!
My name is Themis and I am completely new to Mandrake Linux... For the time
beeing I am using Mandrake Move as I want to solve some hardware issues
first and then completely remove windows from my pc...
I want to ask you how to configure my ISDN moden, with the drakconnect
application. Is there any way to activate it with a command or sth like
that?
There's a message poping up when I run 'Connect to the internet' and KPPP
comes up like: /etc/resolve.conf is missing or can't be read - ask your
system administrator to creat this file (can be empty) with appropriate read
and write parameters'
As about KPPP,I can't find what parameters are needed in tab 'Device' as
well as in 'Modem/Modem Commands'.

My modem's info:
Model: ASUSCOM P-IN-100
connected to PCI slot: 1 (PCI bus 0)
Thanks!

KPPP is for a typical 56k telephone modem, I believe for the ISDN you should
us MCC and configure through that Internet connection icon. Is your ISDN
always on? Be sure the firewall is up after you set up the modem. HTH

[newbie] ISDN Card Mandrake 8.2

2002-07-08 Thread Tor Harald Thorland

Hi,
I have a Billion ISDN card, Mandrake 8.2.
When i press the connect to internett icon, it asks me for root passwd, and the
network monitor comes up on my screen.
It then says it is connecting to the internett, and soon gives me a message that the
connection failed.
But the connection works
When i then click on the connect button it says it is connecting again, and comes with
the same message (failed)
And,,, yes the web browsers are not working..

How can i know for sure if my computer is connected or not?
It can be rather expensive to be online all day..

Thnx. THT

When you say :

 But the connection works

what makes you think it is working?

When i then click on the connect button it says it is connecting again, and comes
with the same message (failed)

and,,, yes the web browsers are not working..

This means it is not working ( or at least not doing what you want. )

How can i know for sure if my computer is connected or not?
It can be rather expensive to be online all day..

if you start an xconsole up and then type

ifconfig ( then press the enter key )

you should get information about the interfaces.

I have not used an ISDN modem but you should get at least 2 interfaces

my PC is on a network so I get :

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:A7:10:D4:79
  inet addr:192.168.1.2 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:4508 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:5006 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:57 txqueuelen:100
  RX bytes:2566221 (2.4 Mb) TX bytes:563387 (550.1 Kb)
  Interrupt:11 Base address:0xff00

loLink encap:Local Loopback
  inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
  UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
  RX packets:484 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:484 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:33880 (33.0 Kb) TX bytes:33880 (33.0 Kb)

You should get the lo one and probably one for ppp0 ( or similar )

If you are also on a network you will get the eth0 one as well.

If you only get lo then you have not got your internet connection set up.

and your dialup connection will also need configuring.

Did you have the ISDN modem and switched on when you installed Mandrake?

I would have expected it to offer to set it up at that time if you did.

[newbie] ISDN: how to preserve connection after reboot?

2002-03-02 Thread Marco Verheul

Hello,

When I reboot my system I have to take the following steps to be able to
connect to the internet with ISDN:

1 login as root
2 open console
3 isapnp /etc/isapnpconf
4 modprobe hisax etc

I can recall there is a sort of init file where the modprobe statement
has be be inserted, so this automatically happens with startup Who
knows what to do?

I'm running Mandrake 81

Thanks, Marco

[newbie] ISDN and Mandrake 8.0

2001-10-01 Thread ozy

Ok, to get straight to the point:

ISDN does not want to work under Linux.

I configure everything in Mandrakes Internet Connection setup,
from my ISDN card (which it finds correctly), to the provider phone
number and username/password. However, I click connect and
nothing happens.. it just says connecting, before timing out and
telling me (somewhat unhelpfully) that i'd configured something
wrong.

I have two ISDN cards, an ASUSCom one (that linux picks up as a
Dynalink card), and a BTInternet Speedway Card (that is picked up
as an A1 Fritz! card, or something like that).. both should work
fine, but neither respond to anything I throw at them.. which seems
rather odd to me. (Both cards are PCI, by the way.)

Can anyone out there can help this troubled soul? Without the
internet, Linux suddenly becomes pretty useless...

If anyone can help, in any way at all i'd be very grateful

I am setting up the new monster machine, and it is fast.
It is however also fast to tell me that the ISDN interface won't load. It is a
message that the software certificate doesn't match and therefor it won't
work. Anyone have a clue whaddado?

After booting, check /var/log/messages if the ISDN support has been enabled
(you can set that up with install)

Then type in this:

modprobe hisax io=0x180 irq=10 type=3 protocol=2 id=line0

replace io and irq with what you have set up (should not be too difficult)

[newbie] ISDN Dialup

2001-03-24 Thread Andre D. Martinsen

I installed Linux Mandrake 7.2 yesterday and everything went like a breeze.
My ISDN-car was found and installed (Dynalink tas106) and even my ISP in
Norway were on the ISP list with the corect settings (I double checked
them). But when I opened the dialer program (DarkMagick or something) and
started dialing it say that it didnt connect and that I should check the
settings again (witch I did several times). Now this is working nicely in
both Win ME and Win 2000, but not on Mandrake. Is there a logfile or
something i could check to see what went wrong? Or better yet, what do you
guys need to see to understand whats wrong? Now remember that im ULTRA
Newbie at this stuff so please put it as easy as possible.

Support for internal ISDN cards in linux is extremely limited. Unless
its on the list of supported cards you arent prob going to be able to
get it working. If using ISDN prob better off getting an external.

  configuration

Question, is the isdn line hooked into a
router? Or is it going through the linux machine first? If it is
going through a router, all you should need to do is set your gateway address
to the ip address of the router. Otherwise I am not sure but I believe
there are several tools included on the CD that are for ISDN
  configuration.

Subject: [newbie] ISDN
configuration

This is my first start at linux, and I am stuck I
installed Mandrake 6.0 from CD. Configured everything to the best of
my knowledge (not much) set it for custom not server, but running a network
at office (I set theIP address and host name to what is on my
WindowsOS, it is a dual boot) I want to know how to configure an ISDN
line. I can't figure out how to make Linux recognize the ISDN line and
not a dial-up.

Thanx,

Tom

I need assistance in setting up a teles isdn adapter on my
machine.
I have LM 6.0 on 2 machines. I have Courier I-modem on one and
it works with no help from me, but I really want to use the Teles. I have
no idea where to start to set it up...it is installed and works with Windoze.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I've been having a problem with connecting on both channels through kppp. I
never could connect using PAP so I just had to make a little script. After it
connects, both channels are active for 1-2 seconds then one drops. Any
suggestions?

The modem is a 3ComImpact IQ on /dev/cua0. I have the kISDN package, but it
keeps telling me something about no ISDN support or modules loaded.

I installed my Linux.Mandrake 5.3 this yesterday, and after some

It's an (ISA) AVM Fritz!Card Classic which should be supported, I
found some info at the AVM homepage (www.avm.de) but it doesn't
 take me any further.

Is there anyone who has experience with this?

Yes, I am using the same ISDN-Card for two years. First under Windows
and now with Linux. You have to compile the Kernel with enabled
ISDN-Support with some options and then you have to load the module
at bootuptime or later by hand or with an application. I use kISDN,
which loads up the right module itself. If you need any help for
these Steps, I will help you. Ask me!

On Windows it runs under IRQ 10, and I want it to receive faxes in
 the background under linux (KDE).

Under Linux it is impossible, to receive faxes via ISDN. I don't know
why, but it is still so. I use an old normal modem to send and
receive faxes. Both, ISDN and modem, are running well together with
no problem.

Any help is highly appreciated, TIA.

Does anyone have a cheat sheet on the exact steps to recompile the
kernel to allow me to install and use KISDN.

Thanks

[newbie] ISDN Card under Linux

1999-04-05 Thread Gene Reeves

Hello All,

Mandrake is great.

I have a TigerJet (www.tigerjet.com) internal ISDN card, which works
great under windoze (using the built-in ISDN support), but I have seen
nothing about support under linux. Does anyone use this card under Linux???
