[newbie] Licq problems
A friend of mine can -not- get Licq to work (or any IM for that matter) to work under his Mandrake setup. IM's work fine from the Windog side of things on his machine. We opened a network window from Licq and watched it, it always times out or gives an error message. He is using the default ports and servers. (4000 and mirabilis I believe). As far as we can tell, a firewall is not blocking it from working... I searched the e-mail archive here, but didn't find much...anyone have any ideas or run into the same problem? I even sent him my licq.conf file, since mine works great... -- /\ DarkLord \/ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Can you ping icq.mirabilis.com, and icq1... icq2... from his place? If you can't access that, that could be a reason. IM's work fine from the Windog side of things on his machine. If it hasn't already been done it might be worth downloading and installing KXicq2: http://kxicq.sourceforge.net/ (BTW the installation instructions are unnecessarily complex: all I did was download version 0.7.7 from http://linux.have-more-fun.net/~crissi/linux/kxicq2-0.7.7-cvs-kde3.tgz then did the usual ./configure, make, make install without exporting KDE3/QT3-specific environment variables) For some reason Mandrake doesn't provide it as a package, but it's an excellent client. It's KDE-specific - so looks better than licq - and, crucially, has a simpler UI and fewer arcane settings than licq so there's less chance of something going wrong ... I ran licq with default settings when I first ran it. I wonder if maybe he didn't edit .licq/lilo.conf and change the port before running it? Dunno. He did get Gnomeicq working now so its okay... [newbie] Licq problems =(
Hello, I have just installed the licq-0.75.3.a-2mdk and licq-data-1.5-1mdk RPMs but I cannot get licq to work. It starts up but just seems to hang. Has anyone had this problem?? I have been running licq-0.70.1-2mdk and did not experience anything like this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bobby
