Hmm... Judging from your name Colin, I suppose you live in Ireland.
Unfortunately we Europeans don't have Wal-Mart, but we do have
Dell. They are a wagging tail of Microsoft, officially. But try to
phone them : I got a bargain price on an Inspiron laptop without
any OS on it - only a rudimentary DOS, saving me 60 ยค. They seem
quite reasonable, speaking man to man.

Hi, Colin

Have you approached Dell and asked them? They did start selling Linux
boxes, but packed in. They may still supply w/o an O.S.

Otherwise you could buy from anywhere, refuse the EULA when it comes on
screen, remove Windows enforce your legal right (according to the
print in the agreement) to get your money back. See

 http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=7040

Thanks to good records and a Small Claims judge, Steve Oualline got a
$199 refund for his unused copy of Microsoft Windows XP. One Linux
user's story shows how to establish a good refund case. (This was in
California).

Hope this is of interest,

Paul M.

Hmm... Judging from your name Colin, I suppose you live in Ireland.
Cripes! If we (being about 1/2 irish... me granma's a Leckie) all stayed
in Ireland where would all the humour in the world be?! There are
probably about 20x the number of O'Connors in the US (potato famines and
those things...) as there are in Ireland, so I'd wager he's actually an
American (well?). In fact there may even be more in Australia and Canada
also.

Unfortunately we Europeans don't have Wal-Mart,
Unfortunately? Hmmm. I'm hopefully going to live in Europe soon, and I
can assure you that its absence is not an issue I am having problems
dealing with!-)
Cheers
