Ok, google may be my friend - believe me, I intend to do some googling on

Never heard that particular quote; I just started doing the

integrate the word 'cheers' into my vernacular)...as I used to state
plainly Hey man hey... or just Peace and Blessings...

...but would love to see the entire quote at length!

Nah - still ain't got it straight yet. Every video player - xine,
aviplay, mplayer - they all have a wonderful bit of garbage running down
the right-hand .5 cm of the video window. I'm still doing some mucking
around with YANC - but ain't looking good. I guess I should have stuck

Well, YMMV applies again. I have no problems using a Nvidia Gforce 2 DDR 64MB
card and the new .run drivers from their web site. Except that I get a very
checkerboard colorfull screen when I try to play a .avi file in mplayer. I am
guessing configuration or a file I may be missing. None the less it appears
that the NVidia drivers will function with .avi files. Continue the hunt?

That's weird.

I'm using an NVidia GeForce 2 32MB card with the 4363 drivers from
NVidia without any trouble. I built them against
kernel-2.4.21-0.18mm-mdk.

.avi files play fine in mplayer. Do you have the most recent version
of mplayer and all it's associated codecs?

Stephen,
I have the same problem with the Nvidia drivers. The only thing that works ok
is xawtv capturing direct off the video capture card with the device called out as

xawtv -c /dev/v4l/video0

Everthing else, EVERY other player gives me blue garbage or a smear on the screen.
Well, that's not quite true. They are ok in full screen mode. The only fix I could
find was to use the nv drivers.

I would really like to figure this one out as well, cause I can't play Tux now.

Well, since it's been quiet, I've been playing around with the settings
in YANC (what a great way to muck around with your XWindows settings for
an NVidia card without hosing up the entire shebang!)(Highly recommended
for those that have NVidia cards...seriously)...and I've managed to
clean up the vid display a tad more - but now I'm lazy again, and
don't want to reboot the box, so I'll keep tampering...

PS:
I wonder if this one setting would work - it's in my XF86Config-4 and
the line reads:

Module Option Make_squiggly_lines_in_video_playback = 1

That does seem to suggest that.

Did you install the compiled nvidia vestion or the nvidia version of an rpm.
The rpm version gives their nvidia splashscreen just before desktop
wheras the compiled version does not.

If the compiled version maybe something went wrong there.

I have the rpm version on my M9.1 and it seems OK.
I didn't have to do much to configure it beyond changin nv to nvidia.
