You're probably best off if you install Ximian GNOME (http://www.ximian.com/). Not only will you get a recent version of Gphoto, you'll also get an enhanced GNOME desktop environment :) -- Sridhar Dhanapalan The Internet cannot be removed from your Desktop. RE: [newbie] gphoto and LM8.1
the thing is, that you don't need the gphoto to get access to your USB camera ! all you have to do is to start the USB daemon, then mount your USB device (I think it's /dev/something) and voalla - you can browse the images on your camera with regular konquerror or do an 'ls -lca' in the command prompt and copy the images by 'cp' anywhere you want !! -Original Message- From: Dennis Myers [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2001 1:22 AM To: newbie Subject: [newbie] gphoto and LM8.1 This is the same problem I had in 8.0, I can not get a usb connection with gphoto and my digital camera. It works ok with serial port as a Kodak DC240 but in usb configuration I can not find the add in in the configuration panel that allows the camera to connect. Has anyone had success with usb camera connection. I can not figure out kamera either, and although man pages are supposed to be loaded I get no man page for kamera TIA for any suggestions. -- Dennis M. registered Linux user #180842 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Hmm... this would work for a digital camera because it can be seen as a storage device. What would you need for a USB webcam? -Paul RodrÃguez On Thu, 2001-10-18 at 02:49, Michael Spivak wrote: the thing is, that you don't need the gphoto to get access to your USB camera ! all you have to do is to start the USB daemon, then mount your USB device (I think it's /dev/something) and voalla - you can browse the images on your camera with regular konquerror or do an 'ls -lca' in the command prompt and copy the images by 'cp' anywhere you want !! I have messed around with it, my camera is shown in usbview when I plug it in. But I don't know if the usb daemon is running or not, assume it is. If it is, what /dev? I can not see it listed as a dev in harddrake. and how do you find it with konqueror. TIA for any further help. [newbie] Gphoto and usb connection
Hi all, I am trying to use my digital camera with a usb connection. It is a Kodak DC3400 and works great with the serial connection. It just downloads kinda slow and I know the usb connection would be faster but.. If I check the other box in the config camera what do I put in the blank for the usb port? Is it something like ttyxx? TIA for any help. -- Dennis M. registered linux user # 180842 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
[newbie] Gphoto Kodak DC3400 camera in LM 8.0
Don't think my previous post got out of the box. So, for those who might have a Kodak DC 3400 camera, Gphoto will use it very well if you configure as the Kodak DC 280 camera. It worked very well on the serial port, so now I am going to try the usb interface. Only a scanner working away from dumping windows altogether. I have a HP 5200 with usb that I haven't tried yet. So that is next. -- Dennis M. registered Linux user # 180842
[newbie] Gphoto and Kodak Cameras
Hi all, I just tried the gphoto that comes with Mandrake 8.0 , I believe it is version 0.4.3 or thereabouts. Anyway, the camera listing does not show my Kodak DC3400 camera, so I tried installing as the Kodak DC280 camera and lo the darned thing worked. I downloaded some photos of my grandson and an old cedar chest, no relationship or significance to each other or anything else, Ha, just happened to be the last photos taken. Gphoto works very well on the serial port. I will try it next as a usb interface. Anyway, for those who have the DC3400 camera use the DC280 setting until Mandrakesoft puts the new version of Gphoto out as a rpm. Just a scanner working away from dumping windows altogether. -- Dennis M. registered Linux user # 180842

On Sunday 27 May 2001 09:16 pm, you wrote: I have a DC280. What did you have to do to set everything up? It won't matter until I get my install problems solved. For some reason I can get much past the welcome screen. I have some serious problem with instaling Mandrake8 for some reason. Know anything about RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0? Aloha, Eric All I had to do was install gphoto from the CDs and then plug in the camera and turn it on. Then as root (cause I haven't figured out how to give myself user permissions in gphoto) I type gphoto. The GUI comes up and select port and camera then pick the port and then from the drop down pick your camera and save settings and you should be ready to go. It couldn't be easier, but I could not get it to work in 7.2 at all. For your problem, are you setting up as a dual boot with Winders or all by itself. If dual boot you need to set up a partition on the hard drive. I used Partition Magic for mine. But now I have dedicated hard drives for Linux only. If not dual boot have you turned off the virus detection in the bios? I know there can be a bunch of reasons for your problem. One could be if you have a western digital hard drive. There is a noautotune thing you can do that might get it going. Try a search in the archives for the specifics. Hope this helps, not much to go with but the list may be able to solve the problem if you can give more specific info on the components in your PC. -- Dennis M. registered Linux user # 180842
[newbie] GPhoto problems
Hi, I''ve sent a couple of emails to gphoto about this but got no response - I have an Olympus D360-L digital cam - its on the supported list on the gphoto web site, but does not come up as a choice when setting up the camera. I have chosen a few close-looking models, but they don;t work - sometimes the correct number of photos is seen, but they can't be downloaded - other times, gphoto just crashes. I have the most current version of the software - anyone have any hints about what I can try to get this working ? Or suggestions about other packages to try, such as PhotoPC ? Thanks, philomena
RE: [newbie] GPhoto problems
The stable version, since my model was listed - I'll give the beta a shot too. At 12:09 PM 5/1/2001 -0700, you wrote: Are you using the gphoto 2.0 beta or the older stable version 0.4 ?
