any wintv pci card, xawtv does OK capture, (also depends on your video
cards support) more to the point is, can your hard drives capture fast
enough to not loose frames.

Go to the local computer fair - you'll find all kinds of TV/FM cards
that have the Brooktree chipset; Haupage or whatever - they'll work with
XAWTV well enough mate - unless you want to get one that's integrated
into a video graphics adapter...

Do you get sound, because all I ever get is silent video. If you do get
sound with your captures, would you mind explaining how you do it?

[newbie] Video capture

2003-07-18 Thread Tango Echo
Hi guys!

Can any of you recommend an inexpensive Linux
compatible video capture card? I am told the primary
need for this card will be for converting VHS tapes to
file. I saw the ATI TV wonder VE on pricewatch for
about $47. However, this card looks quite basic (does
it only transfer video - no sound?).

Secondly, what would be a good app to capture the
video once the appropriate hardware has been
purchased?

Thanks!

I have a WinTV-Go card installed and use streamer, a part of the xawtv
package, to do my captures via the coax cable running from my vcr/set-top
box/aerial. I use this setup to digitise old video recordings or as a digital
vcr setup with crom scripts.

This card was quite cheap and performs well enough for my needs.

Hope this helps.

mcc's info on the card is:

Re: [newbie] Video Capture Suggestions Sought

I have quite a bit of analog video footage (i.e. standard VHS
videocassettes) that I am interested in capturing and outputting into
some kind of vcd format. From what I read, it is possible to put video
onto a standard (non-DVD) CD-R in a format that can be played by most
 DVD players.

If anyone has successfully done something like this in Linux, I would
be grateful to hear of what hardware/software you used and what steps
 you followed.

 Thanks.
if you have the power pack, or prosuite, you shou;ld have a video editing
package called broadcast2000 or bcast2000 install and edit your videos
with it, render the video as mpg1, and save. use gcombust to save and burn
as *.vcd and stick the cd into your dvd to see the movies. I am sure there
are better ways to save as .vcd, and some where some one must know more about
the meni system used in dvd players than I do

Re: [newbie] Video Capture Suggestions Sought

2001-12-17 Thread L.V.Gandhi

see www.vcdhelp.com
You need a video capture card. Normally all TV tune cards are having capture
facilities. You should capture in .avi format and convert them to .mpg format
using encoders and then convert them to VCD format. I have captured using my
Pixel view Play TVPro tvtuner card using streamer that came with xawtv.
However foe encoding I used tmpegenc in windows and used VCDimager to convert
and write to CDR. Though I have done this in windows it can be done in LINUX
with linux version.
