In the case of Opera there is only one RPM file (type?) and trying to open it reports the error described. I'm beginning to wonder whether they're not using a newer version of rpm. My understanding is that v4.0 is out and about now. Cheers --- Larry

Re: [newbie] Newbie: Windows Opera3 bookmarks to Linux Netscape
Larry: Through the intervening years, there have been a lot of changes to this PC. Not all of them were planned - like the HD wipeout, wandering from Win 3.1 to win 95 to win 98 to Redhat 6 to Mandrake 7 to Mandrake 7.1. This was an old file used as a backup probably when I installed IE 4 in place of Netscape 4.something. I happened to find them the other night, and was curious to see what they contained; hence the workaround. Some of them are dead, some are in my current bookmarks (and favorites), and some have been forgotten. I did find one or two of value, and those are now in my current bookmarks. I only posted this as a simple way for Alan to test out his Opera bookmarks in Netscape. I wouldn't recommend it as a standard practice, although it did work quite well. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I am a newbie, after all -- Regards, Carroll Larry Marshall wrote: > > > Here's a thought: I found an old (1998) copy of my Netscape bookmarks on > > my windows d: drive that I'd forgotten about. Re: [newbie] Newbie: Windows Opera3 bookmarks to Linux Netscape
Alan: Here's a thought: I found an old (1998) copy of my Netscape bookmarks on my windows d: drive that I'd forgotten about. I made a bookmark to that file from Linux' Netscape, and I'm able to use them just like I did back then. If Netscape will read Opera bookmarks, that might work for you. Or, if you decide to install the Linux Opera as suggested elsewhere in this thread, you should be able to copy the windows version to Linux. When I see how quickly and well Opera is capable of viewing websites, how it handles bookmarks and stuff like that, I'll be better able to make a judgement. Until then, all the pictures are pretty :-) Cheers --- Larry
