Interesting. I just registered for an ABN online using Linux + Moz with my
user agent set to Win XP + IE 6. The ATO idiot site assured me that I could
not proceed because I did not have Java enabled but I do. I proceeded anyway
 and successfully got my ABN.

I have registered for electronic lodgement and my first quarterly return is
to happen on 14th this month I believe. Cpould be fun.

Mind you, Bobbo, when they send out the ATO/ECO CD to ya that it
installs on either Mac or Windows only - even though it's SUPPOSED to be
JAVA - the java is MS Java and having been down this road for a few
years, they ain't going to make a local version in Sun's java because
the need ain't there...bastards they are...

Next time, use VMWare; that will allow you to have an isolated and

That's what I had win4lin for.down the drain with /home that one!

Thing is win4lin (and vmware AFAIK) can't use more hardware than the
host-system provides..That's where it nagsToo cheap hardware and
ditto drivers. I even had my 3d prophet card with kyros II chips working fine
on the old install. Now I'm back on fbdev and 2D for the time being:o(

My last backup of /home is from 28/07/03 so that's not too bad considering 6
weeks away on holiday/work included. Losing the /usr is what really hurts,
especially the modules (and ditto src files) which couldn't have been
properly backed up anyway. At least I wouldn't know how if I wanted to.

Anyway, for once I'm not blaming Billy: that was the stooopid idiot at the
keyboard combined with the sloppy results diskdrake gives.
I've yet to see diskdrake create a partition table without errors.but I
knew beforehand: I even rerember (obviously my personal maillist archives are
gone too) warning Anne to double check on diskdrake
Oh well, still smacking my head on my (real wooden) desktop (with the family
'almost' aplauding) so I'll start giving autopsy a serious try tomorrow
when the headache's gone and I'm not pining for a quick result.

I'll tread very, very wary with what's left of /dev/hdd from here. This isn't
hacking anymore, this is vivisection. If it weren't for the loss (time heals
all wounds:o)) this could be a fun or at the least a learning experience.

Good luck,
HarM

Hello all,

The title say's it all, I just killed the good box at home.

I went thru this sort of thing a long while back. My solution was to
use an old 450 mHz machine where everything Windows can be pretty much
isolated. My Mandrake box need never worry about that alien partition.

My only reason for keeping a Windows machine is that here in the US, it
seems that Tax software is written to run only on the Evil Empire's
systems. Does anyone know of good Tax program for Linux? Then I could
toss the Windows machine for good.

I do my taxes online. You can run Turbo Tax in a browser connection -
I went this route last year. Other years, I tend to just visit the irs
ftp sites, download the tax forms and roll my own, as my tax needs are
rather simple.

Not just the US, mate - if I could create/locate a tax proggie for here
in the Land Down Under, I reckon Windows would be history...
