I am not sure how this got setup on your system (maybe
old settings in .mozilla directory? ). Anyhow, you can
go to
Netscape-Edit-Preferences-PrivacySecurity-Certificates
Here choose the Manage Security Devices. Try playing
with the settings for the Software Security Device
here.

Re: [newbie] Netscape problem

2000-07-10 Thread Joe Brault

Eugene and Seth

Not to worry, I had this problem yesterday when I installed my modem and was
able to fix it. Here's what you need to do:

1) You need to be able to connect to the Internet for starters (sounds like
both of you can). When you get connected wth KPPP goto the details on your
connection (found in the little window that shows you are connected) and you
will see your local IP and your IPS's IP, write both of these down, you'll
need them in a minute.

2) Open up your /etc/resolv.conf file and see what is contained inside.
For mine, I had no entries. In order to make mine work I had to add the
below lines:

search mc.net
[put your ISP's IP address here]

Once you have added this info to the file, you should be all set. Close
the file, exit all your Netscape windows if you have any open, and try
Netscape again. If this still doesn't work, try looking up your local ISP's
IP address and see if he has any others that can be used. Or you could
break down and call your ISP to get a list of IP's if he/she will give it to
you :)

I hope this helps. I'm at work now, so I don't have my files in front of me
to be able to supply you with specific examples, but i'll send some when I
get home tonight if you are still having trouble. Later-

Joe :)

Or you could do something easier like check your /etc/resolv.conf file
to make sure your nameserver entries are there (and are IP's, not
ns1.isp.com)

I have the EXACT same problem, and I have checked everything. I am connected
to the internet but NO programs can get the information. Perhaps they can't
talk with my modem? any ideas anyone.

Add your ISP's DNS servers to /etc/resolv.conf

I'd say "check the archives at the Mandrake site", but that'd be a bit
 difficult without DNS resolution. :)

You can try editing /etc/resolv.conf
add the following:

search your isp
nameserver dns # provided by isp
nameserver dns # provided by isp [they usually provide at least two...]

save your changes and retry. Should do it ;o)
