Not sure what that gets set to when I log in, but after selecting the
mouse that's what it's set to.
This is an Evoluent Vertical mouse.

# cat /etc/modules.conf

hmm
Nothing there.
It worked _perfect_ during the installation of MDK 10.1 recently but

missing.

You also should check that your USB modules are loading in boot. If I am not

I have little idea how udev handles it. But I will say that its working for

What does /var/log/messages show after these lines, dmesg and messages should

When your mouse is in a non-detected mode, what does lsmod say? are hid-core

 Ram
Mate, here's something a quick solution:
Boot into your linux system. If you have a graphical login, hit
CONTROL-ALT-F2 or CONTROL-ALT-BACKSPACE - you'll get to a text login.
Now, login. After login, type mouseconfig (if that doesn't bring up the
config util, you can try either /sbin/mouseconfig or
/usr/sbin/mouseconfig)

Follow the steps as presented - making SURE you're choosing either the
Logitech mouse that matches the one yer using, or the closest match to
the USB version you've got.

After that - unless you get errors - either restart by typing reboot, or
power off by typing poweroff...THAT should do ya...lemme know what
happens Ram!
Cheers!

I think mouseconfig is for RH, in MDK its called mousedrake and you need to
su to root which means in a terminal type:
su enter
enter_root_password enter

now you can run mousedrake, just type
mousedrake enter

I have a Logitech usb optical mouse too! I just went under the Mandrake

Hope that helps.

I am new to the list. I have a logitech Optical USB mouse.

 1. Is it possible to get it to work during the install? I can use text
install and get by without, but would like to get it to work in XWindows.

 2. If it is possible to get it to work in XWindows, what do I need to do?

It works fine in Redhat 7.1

 Thanks
 Jeff

Try using mouseconfig or mousedrake.

I have a USB trackball mouse with a Mouse whell and 4 buttons and it works
just fine. (Well I would like it to work differently, but it does the
job and works well for how it's currently configured.)

You could also use HardDrake to configure the mouse as well. Just be a lot
of tabbing through to get to what you need. But it's do-able.

stopped getting an error when the mouse wasn't in the ps2 port since I was
using my MS optical mouse in the usb port like it was meant to be.

I've never had success simply swapping a PS mouse with a USB mouse and
getting the latter to work. What does work, for me, is a complete
re-installation of the OS, LM7.1 or LM7.2. The USB is found during the start
of installation and works completely fine.

I would actually like to be able to use both of them like windows would

CTK,

Could you Please turn off the HTML on your posts and just post to the list in
plain text? Please!? your HTML posts REALLY f$^@#ed up my KDE this morning

And yes...I'm sure it was something attachedto your posts. When I opened the

My curiosity got the better of me, and well...the rest is an experience I'd

2001-01-01 Thread Carroll Grigsby

Mike:
Odd. I've been doing a lot of reinstalling lately, and my experience is
exactly the opposite to your's. LM 7.1 recognized my Logitech USB mouse
right off the bat, but Win98SE refused to acknowledge it. I finally had
to use the USB/PS-2 adapter to complete the installation, and add the
USB part later. That may be because the VIA USB drivers can't be loaded
until Win is installed.
Stuff like this is the reason for the YMMV tag.

Carroll

I had the same problem...actually, I have 2 wheel mice, one a PS/2 to use
under LM 7.0 and a USB to use in Windows. 7.2 would only recognize the PS/2
until I went back to the install CD and manually configured it.

Please be aware that in Mandrake 7.0 you will have to run /usr/sbin/mousedrake
