RE: [newbie] Where are the exotic terminals and consoles - Eye candy?

2004-04-16 Thread Tango Echo
SuperKaramba... Now there's an idea. Problem is,
looks like you need to learn the Python language
before you can create any widgets. Secondly, I'm not
sure if Superkaramba supports text input. It seems
more like a disply device than something that would
take text input. Or am I wrong here?

The Eterm suggestions are nice, but I'm talking more
than changing backgrounds, using a colored font, or
using a transparant background. Stephen, you might be
right using it for changing color. If I learned bash
scripting, perhaps I could set a color change for each
character. Somthing like start at bright orange,
after one second change to a darker orange, then
repeat until it stops at red.

Shocks me that nothing like this is out there already.
Looks like if it doesn't exist I'll have to learn
some type of language - either Python for SuperKaramba
or advanced bash scripting...

Any other comments out there? Maybe I should hit up
the expert list out there...

Try SuperKaramba. Marcel Gagne wrote an article on it
in this months issue of www.linuxjournal.com.

Some that would provide animations and eye candy
perhaps? For example, when you typed to the
 terminal
the most recent character would very start bright
 and
slowly fade to a darker color as time passes. I

I tried breifly looking on freshmeat, but perhaps I
didn't look hard enough. Or perhaps there isn't

You're going to have to dig into bash scripting, mate.
Seriously.

Shocks me that nothing like this is out there already.

That's because most geeks will take the hit on doing bash scripting.

No - just bash scripting.

ETerm / WxTerm / PowerShell; but you're going to have to get creative
with your bash scripting.

Exhilaration is that feeling you get just after a great idea hits you,
and just before you realize what is wrong with it.

Eterm rocks, IMHO...love being able to use random backgrounds. I'll send you a
snapshot with some open Eterms...

Eterm opens up a can of whoop-ass on aterm; Wterm is a fast second on
that.

Having the ability to customise a terminal is VERY important and is
almost a lost art.

Customising the prompt is even more important.

Never used aterm myself, but others seem to think Eterm is much better.
