[newbie] Amd64

2004-09-15 Per discussione andres . kaaber
Hi
I wanted to ask about 64 bit version of Mandrakelinux. Is it commercial, because
I coudn't find amd64 iso-s from mdk mirrors. I subscribed to mdk64-cooker list
and no activity there at all. The latets cooker/x86_64 net install is broken -
says error The modules for this kernel (2.6.8.1-10mdkBOOT) can't be found on
this mirror, please update your boot disk. I tried all the servers and ai use
the latest boot disks. So what do I do now with my A643000+ if I can't get MDK
installed on it :D

[newbie] x-config.

2001-01-16 Per discussione Andres

Hi, is there a way of changing the xfree server(4.0.1) back to the 3.3.6
using drakonf? or the only way is by "upgrading" the O.S.?

[newbie] x-window problem.

2001-01-11 Per discussione Andres

Hi iam a mandrake newbie, and i have the following problem:
when i use the x-window, the screen splits in two pieces (one half to the
left and one halfo to the right), the left side has no problem, everything
is ok, but when i get something (like the mouse cursor, or a window), the
rifgt side acts as a mirror, i mean that everything that is near the half of
the screen is repeted 4 or 5 five times(i dont remember exactly) on the
right side of the screen. I tried usind the KDE, GNOME and window maker, but
it seems that the problem wont go away. I also have to tell you, that the
monitor is a Dell 828FI (it appears on the list) and the video card is a
Trident 975 AGP (that appears on the list too). I tried changing the screen
resolution, but i dont know what more can i do.
I hope you can help me, Thanks for reading this e-mail.
Andrew.

Re: [newbie] sblive driver

1999-12-28 Per discussione Andres Centellas

Hello, try logging on as root. then type /usr/sbin/sndconfig this should
bring up a configurator screen that looks just like the ones during install.
Then just choose your card from the list and you should be all set.

If you dual boot go back into windows and in the device manager select your
sound card and look at the properties. From there you can grab the I/O
port,IRQ and DMA settings which you might need to configure in the sndconfig
in linux.

Hopes this works. Good luck

Subject: [newbie] sblive driver
Date: Mon, 27 Dec 1999 10:36:49 -0600

Seasons greetings to all.

I have just started using Linux this weekend. I purchased the mandrake
powerpack edition. It is the 2.2.13-7mdksmp release

I'm definitely a newbie at this and I need a little help with
configuring my sound blaster live sound card.

I printed out the help article form the linuxnewbie web page,
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/soundcards/sblive.html, but I'm
still having problems.

I downloaded the emu10k1-19991223.tr.gz file and placed it into my newly
created sblive dir.

I typed gunzip emu10k1...

Then I typed tar -xuf emu10k1

This created a few directories and extracted files into them. No
problem

Then I CD to the knew emu10k1 dir. No problem

Then I typed rm dep as stated on the help article.

This gave me a "rm: cannot remove 'dep': no such file or dir"

I also tried rm *dep* "this is what was shown on the help article" No
Luck

Next I typed make depend

This gave me a "bash: make: command not found"

I then tried make clean and make

This also gave me "bash: make: command not found"

After this the article states that you should type ls emu10k1.o in order
to see the driver

I do not have the driver compiled.

I have tried this several times with out any luck.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Gary

Hello, I have the same laptop, and i have been told that most PCMCIA modems
are windows based. I don't think it will work in Linux. Could you let me
know if it does. I have the same one.

By the way did you can you get your floppy drive to mount. I have a LS-120
superdisk drive and have yet to find anyone who knows how to make this work
under linux. Could you mail to me [EMAIL PROTECTED] , I'm getting way
to many emails from this newbie thing. Thanks.

Subject: [newbie] pcmcia help needed
Date: Mon, 27 Dec 1999 12:54:38 CST

Hello all,

I am in desprate need of help. I am trying to get my gateway solo 2500 on
the internet, via my pcmcia modem (xircom credit card modem (cm-56t)). I
have cardmgr installed, and all the necessary pcmcia software ( I think)
but
I can't get linux to recognize my card. When I insert my card, I hear one
high beep, followed by a low one, and my modem is configured as a memory
card. Anyone know why this would be? I am greatly confused by this. I
have tried a variety of things, but to no avail.

I also am trying to get my 3com network card to work. This card is
recognized by linux, but i get this error in my log when I insert it:

localhost kernel: cs: could not allocate 136k memory for cardbus
socket1

3c575_cb: Request IO: out of resources

I am unsure of how to reallocate the memory for this card... I tried what
was mentioned in the pcmcia howto, but this did not help. I appreciate any
and all help with this matter, I am growing quite frustrated. Thanks in
advance for your time!

Joe :)
