Re: [newbie] Program Update Isues
Thanx for your help. I'll have to take care of that when I can think in a generally forward direction (too many hours with no sleep and no smokes). Pan is a newsreader that's yEnc-compliant. It pisses me off that I have yp update to a yEnc-compliant newsreader because ID10T errors keep uploading stuff in yEnc code. Iceburgh69 -- Looks like you are missing the C compiler. start rpmdrake, search for gcc and install the packages. $PATH is a shell variables that contais the paths to the directories where the shell looks for commands (in your case, the gcc command). You normally do not need to set it for gcc: that is because gcc gets installed (by rpmdrake) into a directory already contained in $PATH. What is this Pan that you are installing/compiling? raffaele Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
Re: [newbie] DosEmulator
Thank you both. I don't have a Win system anymore. I got tired of it crashing on me several times a day. I may need to get a new processor. Ah well. I'm going to play around with it and see what happens. I'd like to familliarize myself with as much of Linux as I can, kinda the same way I did with Windows. Here's hoping. [newbie] DosEmulator
How do I access the DOD emulator? Or, for that matter, does Mandrake 8.2 even COME with one? On a happier note, I managed to get something to install! Now I get to try it again with somethingthat's actually USEFUL. I can't wait 'till I can build my dream system! Iceburgh69 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] Console Emulators
I didn't even think about the DosEmulator. I'm goingto have to see how that works now. Thanx for the thought! Iceburgh69 -- have you tried using the DosEmulator in linux? sometime ago i heard someone who successfully used it to run genecyst and nesticle. your milleage might vary. sorry if most of my rant was second hand. its all that i have to offer. ;-) Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Console Emulators
Is there any way I can find gaming console emulators for Linux? I found a couple for Game Boy on Tucows.com but I don't have any ROMs for it. I have some for NES, SNES, and Genesis. If anyone can tell me where I can find a console emulator for Linux, I'd be more than happy to share the few ROMS that I have. Iceburgh69 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] A little advice.
Thanx. I didn't know about Easynews until now. I'll have to check it later. Right now, I have a truck that needs a new water pump desperatly. I've never tried Pan, so I'll have to take a look at it. This whole thing is a learning experience. I had Mandrake once before, but my roommate who loaded it neglected to tell me how to install stuff, or how to get rid of it. I was running Mandrake 6 at the time, and while my roommate was instructing me, he suddenly up and left for Wisconson. I had nothing - no docs, no knowledge of the man pages, nothing. I ended up giving the HD that had it to a friend of mine at work after I bought the one I have now. I finally got tired of Winblows crashing on me several times a day, so I changed into something more advanced and far superior, not to mention more stable. It's only the occasional program that screws up, not the entire OS. Iceburgh69 - Recent releases of Pan have yEnc capabilities. But if you prefer to use Mozilla, can't help you there. You've checked out http://www.easynews.com/yenc/tools.htm? You can get Pan at http://pan.rebelbase.com/ or from rpmfind. Unfortunately, it's a GNOME newsreader ;-) which I left on my system after my experiences in Ximian Hell. It'll run in KDE, Blackbox, and Fluxbox, too. Think of it as a learning experience! Re: [newbie] windows 98 installation
From what I've seen and heard (and know myself) Windows will kill LiLo when you load Windows after Linux. If you were to install them in the reverse order, you won't have any problems. Also, LiLo doesn't mind Windows. Windows doesn't really care for LiLo. LiLo will see Windows, no problem, and you'll be able to load it from there without a problem at all. But you have to install Windows first. Quite frankly, I went from pure Windows to pure Mandrake 8.2 and ask me if I miss Windows. I'll tell you HELL no, though I DO miss a bit of the functionality. But I can wait until I can afford Winex, and then I won't have that complaint left either. SeaWolvn1 - Hi everybody, Can someone help me, I have partitioned my harddisk with two primary fat32 for windows98 installation and used the free space for M.Linux installation. I installed M.Linux first on the hard disk. My question is, will the Lilo boot loader recognise windows98 when I will install it in the futur. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Command-line command list
Where should I go to find a listing of the command-line commands? I've been trying to copy the MP3's from the CD's that I burned over to a personal folder, but it buggers up rather often. Last time I tried, it gave me an error message when the file was at the end of being copied that it couldn't read the file. I tried it with another file and it happened again. I know that the command-line is more reliable than a GUI, plus I think it's a good idea to get to know the commands when in command-line anyway. I remember what CS does, but that's about it. This list has been exceedingly helpful and encouraging. I only wish that I'd known about it two years ago when my buddy left for Wisconson, leaving me (a Windows user at the time) stuck with Mandrake 6 and no idea of how to use it effectively.
