[newbie] Gnome Enlightenment Help

2002-04-20 Per discussione Jesse Angell

Hello everyone,
I just installed Redhat 7.2 (not mandrake I know.. dont shoot me) and
installed Enlightenment with it. When I start
Enlightenment.. I have to start gnome.. So that works starts Englightenment
THEN gnome starts over it.. so the gnome start menu thing, covers up half the
enlightenment virtual desktop part.. and takes control of the right clicking
feature to bring up the menu in enlightenment.. How do I disable all this
gnome crap... Please help me asap As i'm really in a rush to get this working
So i can go about enjoying linux.

Thank you,
Jesse Angell

[newbie] un-Enlightenment

2001-06-07 Per discussione Paul Haridman

Hi,
Anybody notice a concerted effort to phase out the Enlightenment window
manager?
I would probably dump Mandrake before I dropped Enlightenment.

Re: [newbie] un-Enlightenment

2001-06-07 Per discussione Tim Holmes

What makes you say this?

I know we use Enlightenment about 90% of the time. Our main workstations are Mandrake
8
machines, and we love Enlightenment! We even downloaded a whole boat load of themes.
But
I don't get the impression that Enlightenment is trying to phased out or something.

I don't know many that use it personally. I know my sister uses KDE, but it's simple
and
it's Windowy. And she's only bee a Linux user for like 8 months now. She says she'd
like to use the stuff that I do, but just hasn't given it a try.

Personally I don't know much about Enlightenment, as a whole. I don't know if a rc
file
can be created, or if you can set up the Function keys to open apps. But it more then
does
what I need it to do. Being able to have 4 desktops, each having 24 virtual desktops
each.
I love Enlightenment. I use other windows managers in other distros though. For
example,
I use Piewm in FreeBSD. Since Enlightenment is launched through GNome in FreeBSD. I
can't
stand GNome!

[newbie] gnome, enlightenment and epplets (init script?)

2001-01-30 Per discussione Curt DeBlaey

I'm running Gnome and Enlightenment and I'm trying to figure out how to
control which epplets are started automatically when I reboot/restart
Enlightenment. Is there a config file I can edit somewhere?

I'm trying to fix an annoying behaviour my Enlightment has with regard
to epplets.
Whenever I start an epplet, that epplet is added to the list of epplets
that get started automatically when Enlightenment restarts. So right
now I have many instances of the E-Mounbox and the E-CPU-flame-thingy
starting automatically every time I restart enlightenment.

As near as I can tell, starting an epplet from the user menu seems to
add a call to that epplet to some kind of Enlightenment session init
script somewhere, but I can't seem to find where.

Here's some version information from my system, in case it matters:

Distribution: Linux Mandrake release 7.0 (Air)
O.S. Release: 2.2.14-15mdk (686i)
O.S. Version: #1 (1/4/2000)
Gnome Version: 1.0.51
Enlightenment Version: 0.16.3 (11/22/1999)

Any ideas? I checked the newbie list archives for this one, but I
didn't find anything. If this issue has been covered already, I
apologise.

Thanks!

- Curt

Oh, btw, does anyone know where can I find some good user docs for
enlightenment? www.enlightenment.org doesn't seem to have much. Thx.

Get out of E and edit ...e_session-XX.snapshots.0 in the .enlightenment
directory (it should be easy enough to figure out after staring at it for
a few seconds). If you try to do it in E, E will rewrite it upon logout.

Whenever I start an epplet, that epplet is added to the list of epplets
that get started automatically when Enlightenment restarts. So right

You should be able to Alt-leftclick the epplets to bring up a close button.
But if that doesn't fix your problem, the above definitely will. There is
also eesh, but I haven't really learned how to use it yet.

 Enlightenment Version: 0.16.3 (11/22/1999)

If you can, install 0.16.5 - there were some bug fixes, and a few things
were added to the Settings menu.

Oh, btw, does anyone know where can I find some good user docs for
enlightenment? www.enlightenment.org doesn't seem to have much. Thx.

I've been wondering that myself. I pretty much go by the built-in docs,
and occasionally bug the good folks in the E-devel mailing list.

 Buongiorno a tutti

Netscape
 4,in quanto

o
 no?

Re: [newbie-it] Enlightenment

Thanks for the tips. It was so good to get an iconbox at last, that I
did it again, and got another one, right on top of the first. Then I
tried iconifying a couple of windows, and both icons no doubt popped up
in the (hidden) first iconbox!

I don't suppose there's a way of moving an iconbox? I like to have my

Click both the left and right buttons at the same time, that will give you a
middle click. You should get a menu that says "User Menus, Desktop,

[newbie] gnome, enlightenment, etc....

ok.. really dumb question this time...

What is the main difference between Gnome, Enlightenments, KDE, etc...

I am really confused about which one to use and don't know what the
difference is.. I do know that I used enlightenment yesterday and everything
disappeared off of the desktop.. I had to log in as root, delete me user
account and create a new account in order to get the desktop back...

Thanks,
