I put Teflon tape on mine but I don't think it did anything. I'm
pretty sure gasoline eats it. Just make sure that the plastic screen
that goes inside the tank hasn't dry rotted. It's about the size of a
lipstick maybe? The reserve tank straw goes up inside it. The
plastic becomes brittle after a while and may break or the screen can
get fouled. The rest is just obvious stuff, make sure the threads are
clean both inside the tank and on the petcock. Hook the vacuum hose up
carbs and you're good to go.

2010-06-22 Thread Graham Rogers

That's OK, if I can find someone, great, if not, not so great ...

Anyone out there who wants to experience a kiwi homestay which will
include:
a night of gloating how the New Zealand soccer team (a bunch of
Americas cup sailors on leave), drew even with the Italian World Cup
defending champions.
Everything spoken in kiwi (she'll be right mate, no worries,
everything else in laconic understatement)

A sheep for supper
Sentimental conversation about how we wish we were living in
Christchurch New Zealand so we could ride around the country on one
of Dennis G's Nighthawk 700's avoiding rush hour traffic on Highway 1
(sheep crossing the road)
$200 which probably doesn't even cover gas but it is in US currency
- none of that funny colored money with Sir Edmund Hilary's face on it

In exchange for trucking or trailering Micha's CB650SC from Florida
to my house in PA

Graham (whose wife just said 'We're not serving sheep!') She's from
PA - what can I say

[Nighthawk Lovers] Driving Lights on 1983 450 Nighthawk

2010-06-22 Thread Tucker
Hi,

Has anyone had any experience in putting a pair of 35 watt driving
lights on a 1983 450 Nighthawk? I would like to have more light for
night driving, but cannot find any info on if the charging system can
handle the extra drain on the system. Any assistance would be
appreciated.

A quick google search located the following table of dimensions of
common washer sizes.

Washers are generally pretty cheap, it wouldn't cost too much to buy
an assortment and try them until you find one that fits.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Nighthawk S shift indicator

2010-06-22 Thread bender
The 84 Nighthawk S that I recently purchased has been an absolute
blast but now the shift indicator is not working right. When I got the
bike the neutral indicator light was sporatic. I could live with that.
Now the gear indicator is either not showing anythig or it will always
show 5th no matter what gear it's in. Once in a while it will show the
correct gear but not very offten and it is less and less frequent. Any
one got any ideas on a fix for this?

Hello All,
Well mustering the best in engineering (you might question
that after what I'm about to describe) I mustered up a temporary
solution to my lack of gauge lights.
Went to the hardware store - picked up a pair of LED
flashlights ($2.50 /each) and used plastic wire ties (aka cable wraps)
to attach each flashlight near the brake fluid reservoir and the left
hand side hand grip. A little adjusting later - the right hand one
shines on the speedometer, the left hand one shines on the tach, (both
cross on the instrument panel) and provide just enough illumination
that I can clearly see the gauges and not too much to look like I'm
lighting up the sky.
DOT approved? Probably not. Workable - yes. Advantage, no
