[Nighthawk Lovers] Nighthawk S shift indicator
The 84 Nighthawk S that I recently purchased has been an absolute blast but now the shift indicator is not working right. When I got the bike the neutral indicator light was sporatic. I could live with that. Now the gear indicator is either not showing anythig or it will always show 5th no matter what gear it's in. Once in a while it will show the correct gear but not very offten and it is less and less frequent. Any one got any ideas on a fix for this? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! group. I had that same problem on my 650. The gear selector switch was old and full of dirt and grease. I cleaned it out and it worked fine after that. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Temporary Lighting repair
Hello All, Well mustering the best in engineering (you might question that after what I'm about to describe) I mustered up a temporary solution to my lack of gauge lights. Went to the hardware store - picked up a pair of LED flashlights ($2.50 /each) and used plastic wire ties (aka cable wraps) to attach each flashlight near the brake fluid reservoir and the left hand side hand grip. A little adjusting later - the right hand one shines on the speedometer, the left hand one shines on the tach, (both cross on the instrument panel) and provide just enough illumination that I can clearly see the gauges and not too much to look like I'm lighting up the sky. DOT approved? Probably not. Workable - yes. Advantage, no tearing apart of perfectly working gauges and wiring - disadvantage battery replacement required and not exactly legal -Joey (last of the great bike Mechanics. Really.) On Fri, Jun 18, 2010 at 1:37 PM, Joey Kelley sandp...@gmail.com wrote: Everything else is ok - your comment about the two lights makes me even more curious, the bike appears to have been re-wired since it left the factory - however - I have never bothered to dig any deeper than the obvious re-routing of wires to see why or what was done. The fuses were checked at one point - that might have been 10 years ago though so I might have missed something. I should take my own advice and just replace them all on principal. I'll do that shortly and let everyone know. I know that it is probably a simple bulb replacement - but - frankly - I don't want to tear into the bike and attempt to fix them with everything else working fine. Perhaps this winter I'll get to it. So - how do I temporarily light up my gauges at night?? Any suggestion (within reason!) is welcome!
