Pump it up and paint it with soapy water to find the leak. Sidewalls are not
repairable. Check the valve stem too.

I took my bike out of the garage Sunday and the front tire felt spongy.
Filled it up and rode it a couple hours. Went to take it out again on
Tuesday and it was spongy again (9 lbs), so it's got a leak I've never had
a leaky front tire before. It's a Shinko, just about 1 year old with plenty
of tread left on it.

Is it OK to try one of those aerosol can solutions, or is it best to take
it into the shop? I haven't looked for nails on it yet, no time. If it has
a nail, can it be plugged?I think this topic might have gone around a while
back-sorry for not paying attention. What was the quick advice again?

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: CB 1100?

2013-01-30 Thread Hawaii Sean
Sounds like a great idea to me. I love my 750 and for my commute I haven't
found anything better. However, I have an ST1100 that I take out for long
rides - it's on the Island of Hawaii so I don't get to it as often as I
would like. The extra CC's and size is really nice when you have an open
road in front of you. If I was back in California I'd upgrade as soon as I
could.

I'm also kind of biased, I don't like the way bikes look today. They seem
to be focused on making the plastics look cool more then just doing the job
of covering stuff. The CB1100 is basically a modern and bigger version of
the CB750. Sounds like a great bike to me.

Aloha - Sean

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Corbin seat

2013-01-30 Thread Hawaii Sean
Ross,

I've had a Corbin on my 1996 750 for almost 5 years - it's the first thing
I replaced on the bike.

I commute on the Nighthawk everyday, lucky I live Hawaii, and love the
Corbin for that. It's so much better than stock and gives you a really
good feel and connection with the bike. Yes it's hard but once it breaks
in it kind forms to your behind and is very comfortable. I've done about 2
hours non-stop on it once and my backside was fine - I had to ride around
Oahu to do that. I'm sure Javier has ridden further.

I rode around the island on my stock seat twice - suffice to say - that's
why I got the Corbin.

Bottom line - it's a great seat. They come up on eBay every month or so
and you can get them for between $150 and $250. Some times they go for
more but then you may as well get one made for you.

Best of luck - Sean

If you do get one - please post your reviews. I'm lusting after one also -
but it's difficult to justify as I'm not going to sell my 2002 750NH and in
terms of usability - they're closeeven though they're very different
bikes. That said, that's the only bike I'd spend money on at this point.

Yes. Handy & ugly. Also makes taking the seat off quite hard. I got mine for
$35 from Amazon. The best feature is the traversing led lights on the spoiler.
It also has turn lights on the corners. Rattles & is not dust tight. Will only
hold a 1/2 helmet but I can carry most of what I want or need.

Thank you,

RE: [Nighthawk Lovers] CB 1100?

2013-01-30 Thread Rmj
Sounds good to me. Whatever works.
I've been thinking of selling 92 & getting a newer cruiser. The ergonomics of
certain cruisers are easier on my back. My wife even said I could but it has
taken me 27 years to get back on & ride.

Thank you,

Ross

I'm thinking of buying a new CB1100. I'll give my '03 Nighthawk to my son
and use his '93 600F2 as a trade in. Any thoughts from the group?

[Nighthawk Lovers] ABS repair

2013-01-30 Thread Allen Thomas
I'm sure some of you have a faired bike or at least know someone who does.
This might come in handy at some point.

I just found out about this from the VFR list.

 http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Plastics_repair_with_ABS_cement

I did not know that the black ABS drain pipe can be ground up and
melted by acetone to essentially be the same thing as the plastex
powder/liquid repair. Or used to thicken up ABS cement to just paint on
cracks to chemically weld them, and act as filler. Good stuff, $20 at the
hardware store and you could fix a bunch of fairings.

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Corbin seat

2013-01-30 Thread Graham Rogers
I just took a torn up seat off a Kawasaki EN500 to an upholstery guy and he
reupholstered it copying the exact pattern of the original seat. He did an
amazing job with all the correct stitching, tucks, etc - $47.00

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Corbin seat

2013-01-30 Thread Javier Garcia
They don't have a gel insert (or anything like that). As Allen said, my 750
has one (older version), and is really hard, although I like a lot the
shape. Graham, has one that looks newer and it actually feels more comfy.

Javier.

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Corbin seat

2013-01-30 Thread Allen Thomas
Javier has one. Stock they are as hard as a wooden chair, and I think give a
harsh ride. Benefits are that they have a horn so you don't slide into the
tank, and they are thinner in the front so your legs are not as splayed out. He
got his recovered in vinyl and had foam inserted. It's much more comfortable
now.

Anyone riding on a Corbin seat for nighthawk? How do you like it? Does it have
a gel pad in it? I heard mixed reviews.

Thank you,

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Corbin seat

2013-01-30 Thread bobcat732
I have one on my 84 650. Much better than a stock seat I think. It has a
shape that molds to your shape and holds you on the bike better. I bought a
used one on eBay but they are hard to find. Expensive new.

Started my 85 cb450sc a couple days ago and I starded hearing this clicking
noise and something flew at my face when I got close, but i have no idea what
it was. I continued to hear this noise from the engine area and then i heard
some real backfiring from the exhaust when I bring up the rpms. Water in the
gas? muffler heads loose? something in the actual engine? scared to start it
again.
