Re: Quiet bike, NC WAS: Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: pegs/windshield

2011-11-02 Thread Bill Sandifer
Raleigh. It's irritating to be on the Blue Ridge Parkway with all its
beauty and critters to have an ear-splitting scrum of cycles roar by,
oblivious to bird songs and the rest of the joys of riding the parkway. I'm
sure many hard-core bikers would consider a rider who likes bird songs a
bit "quar." Interestingly, there are many, many small-displacement, quiet
bikes on the parkway as well. I think they seek it out for sanctuary. Bill

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: pegs/windshield

2011-11-02 Thread Jeremy Kindy
A bit of googling came up with this page, which seems plausible for how
that fairing might look on the bike:
http://members.fortunecity.com/cb900f/81cb9f01/81cb9f1a.htm

I like it - would love some hand protection, non-electric gloves only do so
much.

2011-10-30 Thread ewun
If you're still looking for recommendations - I looked at quite a few,
including the Rifle (NightFlight) which was my second choice, but
finally settled on a NOS 'Old-School' Shoei F2. There's a company on
eBay that has an inventory of Shoei NOS Farings that are 20 years old,
and even made of fiberglass. I have a 2002 NH750 and it bolts right
up and looks perfect with no mods - looks like it was made for the
bike black-on-black. Here's a link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Shoei-FM-2-Black-Fairing-Windshield-Kit-0152-/180745804403?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2a154a1a73#ht_3005wt_828

It's a 'tweener' that's not as sporty as a bullet - but keeps the wind
off your chest and also protects the hands. You have to like the old-
school look, but I figure you might as you have a NH! If you're
interested I can snap a couple of pics.

2011-10-27 Thread Bill Sandifer
I'm not trying to spoil the camaraderie, but one reason I like the Nighthawk
so much is it's the anti-Harley, and doesn't have a mostly Goth following.
It's sleek, aerodynamic and q-u-i-e-t, something I appreciate more and more
after decades of noise in my workplace -- television news. North Carolina is
dominated by Harley riders who feel the need to be monolithic in dress and
noise. Honda has been my refuge, a place of diversity and acceptance.

That's one of the reasons I swapped the black skins from my '95 parts
bike to my '96 and vice versa. The other reason was the '96 skins
were hot-rod-cop-magnet-pearl-shining-look-at-me yeller.

Black skins, blacked-out motor -- gotta love it!

Gotta keep it clean and shiny, though. Otherwise it lookseh!

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: pegs/windshield

2011-10-26 Thread Hawaii Sean
I know several people in this group have the SlipStreamer Spit Fire.
You can pick it up for about $60 off of eBay. It's not nearly as cool
as the NationalCity one but its the perfect size to keep the wind off.

I purchased crash bars and highway pegs on eBay - I found some Highway
pegs out of China for a good price and they haven't rusted (I live in
Hawaii - rust is a major problem). I've had them for about 25,000
miles and have maybe used them 15 times. I'm 6'3". They look cool
but I don't use them at all but I'm also a daily commuter the longest
ride here is maybe 60 miles without stopping.
