[NTG-context] latest beta

2015-10-13 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz

Hi Hans,

the latest beta does not replace xml entities for which I have defined
something like

\xmltexentity{degree}{\textdegree}

The problem is not there in 2015.09.13 13:31, but in 2015.10.09 21:28
(sorry don't have all the betas in between). I can make you a test file
if you need it, but I guess the problem is obvious.

[NTG-context] latest beta

2014-01-16 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz

Hi,

the following test file gives an error with the latest beta:

\setupbodyfont[gentium,12pt]

\starttext
\buildtextaccent\greekdasia\greekalphamacron
\stoptext

it works with a somewhat older one (2013.12.30). The error is

! Missing number, treated as zero.

system > tex > error on line 5 in file /tmp/test.tex: Missing
number, treated as zero ...

...

\relax
\buildtextaccent ...umber \b_enco_accent )}\relax
  \ifcase
\scratchcounter \e...

l.5 \buildtextaccent\greekdasia\greekalphamacron

I thought this pointed to enco-ini.mkiv, but the file is unchanged
between these two versions, so I'm a bit baffled.

great: I now get Greek hyphenation with XeTeX as well! However,
there's a problem with mkiv: none of my mkiv-typescripts works with
it; I always get this error:

It works with vanilla LatinModern, and the same typescripts work with
yesterday's beta.

[NTG-context] latest beta

2008-10-07 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz
Hi Hans,

the latest beta has a problem with font handling: in my Greek output,
the letters "sigma" and "sigmaalt" don't work anymore; they're
replaced either by some "undefined" character (box with letter "X" in
it) or by empty spaces. I tried to find out where something has
changed, but haven't found anything so far. If you don't have an
immediate idea what's wrong, I'll try to investigate further.

Hi all, Hi Hans,

has anything changed in xml processing in the latest beta? My
beautiful (!) collection of xml entities has stopped working. In my
environment files, I have stuff such as

\defineXMLentity[textellipsis]{\textellipsis}

but only get the typeset "textellipsis" in my pdfs when I process them
with mkiv. Bug or do I have to change anything in my files?

Hello,

in some rare circumstances the enabled italic correction
(\setupitaliccorrection[always]) cause the following error:
/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/typo-itc.lua:99: attempt to index
local 'cd' (a nil value)

In needed I will try to make a minimal example.

I’ve asked it already, bun since I got no answer … Would it be possible to
expand the the cross referencing mechanism, so that it would be possible to
store the component files in a subfolder? Here is a test:

I just updated the latest beta in a completely new tree:

I get now the following message:

When running luatools --generate
most of the things work out well, just that in the last line I see:

LuaTools | fileio: loading configuration file .../lua60/tex/texmf/
web2c/texmf.cnf Bus error

Running on Tiger 10.4.11

Kind regards

there are two unpleasant things in the lates releases which may be bugs:

1. newtexexec --module --pdf does not work, it just doesn't process

Hi all, Taco, Hans,

this combination of latest betas:

This is LuaTeX, Version snapshot-0.20.2-2007121721

CtxTools | context version: 2008.01.03 16:25

gives me output without the usual TeX ligatures (fi etc.).

I'm uncertain whether it is worth reporting such things or whether,
given the rapid change of luatex and mkiv, you think this is
unnecessary?

Yes, it looks like the treatment of & has changed. Here’s an example:

\startbuffer[test]

 Random text with an entity: °ree;

\stopbuffer

\startxmlsetups xml:testsetups
 \xmlsetsetup{#1}{text}{xml:*}
\stopxmlsetups

\xmlregistersetup{xml:testsetups}

\startxmlsetups xml:text
 \xmlflush{#1}\par
\stopxmlsetups

\xmltexentity{degree}{\textdegree}

\starttext
 \xmlprocessbuffer{main}{test}{}
\stoptext

Works with older betas, not with the current one.

btw, the syntax for for zip files has been changd:

zip:///somefile.zip?name=somefile.tex
zip:tmp/whatevere/somefile.zip?name=/place/inzip/somefile.tex

the following registers a zip file as being a tex tree (with its search
methods)

\usezipfile[texmf-project.zip]

this installs only the texmf-project sub path from the zip

\usezipfile[tex.zip][texmf-project]

in case of unknown paths ...

\input */whatever.tex

should work too (searches all registered trees)

etc etc ... more documentation will follow; still somewhat experimental

Great, this one works! Thanks for your swift action, Hans. I haven't

no, but this is more luatex related (i think); it seems that ff can
merge fea files now so this will also show up in luatex

[NTG-context] Latest beta + LuaTeX

2008-07-15 Thread Otared Kavian
Dear magicians,

I just updated to the latest betas (ConTeXt and LuaTeX taken on
svn://scm.foundry.supelec.fr/svn/luatex
and I tried to build luatex on my machine (MacBook Pro under Mac OS X
10.5.4): everything goes fine, the binary is there, that is in
trunk/build/texk/web2c/luatex
but trying to make the formats (as I did usually thanks to the
directives given by Thomas Schmitz), I get an error message saying this:

! Emergency stop.
\lastexpanded ->\endtemplate
  \global \everyloadluacode {}
\ctxluabyteload ..."#2" } \stopruntimectxluacode }

mkiv lua stats : current memory usage - 6144468 bytes

However ConTeXt mkii works fine.
Since I don't use yet extensively mkiv, I am just reporting the issue
to inform the community.

With my best regards: OK

[NTG-context] latest beta (again)

2008-10-09 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz
Hans,

I still have some problems with my fonts in the latest beta. Maybe it
has to do with the latest optimizations. I'm just wondering: in my
Greek typescripts, I define several fontfeatures and connect them with
featurefiles, like so (just an example, the list is longer):

\installfontfeature[otf][gent]
\installfontfeature[otf][kori]

\definefontfeature
   [korinthia]

[mode
=
node
,language
=
dflt
,script
=latn,kern=yes,tlig=no,trep=no,kori=yes,featurefile=korinthia.fea]

\definefontfeature
   [gentiumgreek]
[mode=node,language=dflt,script=latn,kern=yes,tlig=no,trep=no,
 gent=yes,featurefile=gentium.fea]

\starttypescript [serif] [GreekGentiumAlt] [name]
   \definefontsynonym [Serif] [name:GenAR102]
[features=gentiumgreek]
   \definefontsynonym [SerifItalic] [name:GenAI102]
[features=gentiumgreek]
   \definefontsynonym [SerifBold] [Serif]
   \definefontsynonym [SerifBoldItalic] [SerifItalic]
\stoptypescript

\starttypescript [serif] [GreekKorinthia] [name]
   \definefontsynonym [Serif] [name:Korinthia]
[features=korinthia]
   \definefontsynonym [SerifItalic] [Serif]
   \definefontsynonym [SerifBold] [Serif]
   \definefontsynonym [SerifBoldItalic] [Serif]
\stoptypescript

The main font definition is of this form:

\starttypescript[greek]
\definetypeface[greek][rm][serif][\currentmoduleparameter{font}]
[default][rscale=\currentmoduleparameter{scale}]
\stoptypescript
\usetypescript[greek]

So I'm just wondering: must the "features=" be included into the
\definetypeface as well? I have the impression that the different
features I define are not used at all...

I also regularly have problems loading mkfiles upon update of the minimals; the

The problem was a failure of rsync server on pragma. I was fetching from
rsync -a rsync://ctx.pragma-ade.nl/beta/
and that one seems to be down at the moment.

I changed to http mode now.

I changed to http mode now.

Ah, sorry ... we have been cleaning up the routers and as I couldn't
remember why rsync was enabled I disabled the rule. It should work again.

This might as well be a mac-intel-only luatex-related problem
(something for Taco in any case), but I cannot reproduce it yet.

I hit a similar problem on a ppc mac. So it's probably not an intel-

The .firstsetup script crashes. It worked fine through at least March

Here's a transcript

I have a crash log too, if that would help.

A temporary solution might be to fetch an older luatex from
http://minimals.contextgarden.net/current/bin/osx-intel/luatex/, make
it executable, place it to "bin", rename it into texlua and comment
out the line in first-setup.sh that fetches a newer texlua.

But we need to sort this out ASAP. (Temporary I can also revert back
to an older version - later today.)

As for me there is no need to revert to an older version of luatex. -

Hi Willi,

Two weeks ago I had a similar problem on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard
10.6.
The issue seemed to be with an old first-setup.sh file: when I updated that
file everything worked fine.
As a test to reproduce your experience, I just created a new folder, copied the
file first-setup.sh there and installed anew the minimals: they work without
any problem here.
Just in case, I send you the file I have on my machine, and you can compare
with yours.

Best regards: OK

Hi Otared,

thanks for your file. It does not look like that there are relevant
differences with the version I used.
I tried to setup a new tree with your file. The result is the same,
after the first bits the procedure is stopped with the mentioned bus
error.

Kind regards

I'll try with an older version of luatex, maybe the trunk version

Nope, I get exactly the same error with luatex 0.33.0; not with all of
my xml files, however. I'll have to see if I can isolate the error.
Thanks for your reply, Wolfgang.

OK, one problem is math support. Here's a minimal file that compiles
with 2009.01.18 and fails with 2009.02.04:

\definebodyfontenvironment[18pt]

\usetypescriptfile[type-otf]
\usetypescript[palatino]
\setupbodyfont[palatino,18pt]

\starttext

test $\approx$

\stoptext

[NTG-context] latest beta and \seeindex

2018-06-23 Thread Alan Bowen
The latest beta (ConTeXt ver: 2018.06.23 12:12 MKIV beta fmt: 2018.6.23)
processes without a hitch but \seeindex is still not working as expected.

In

\starttext
\index{sample}
\index{fun+games}\index{fun+stuff}
%\index{fun}

\seeindex{fun}{sample} % now with heading (as it should be)
\seeindex{fun}{blah} % not shown
\seeindex{fun}{humbug} % not shown
\seeindex{fun}{bug} % not shown

\seeindex{fun+games}{entertainment} % not shown

\placeindex[n=1]
\stoptext

When I generate the indices for my book, \seeindex{A}{B} works only if it
is a unique x-ref and A is a heading. Multiple x-refs to the same heading
fail as do x-refs to subheadings.

Thanks, for the heads up. The luatex trunk is a bit in flux at the

texlive development into it, and it takes some effort.

will test asap. aside from one problem with png transparency (when the

(if you know how) can you try the same thing with pdftex 1.40.3 vs.
1.40.8 as well? There was a bugfix in pdftex 1.40.6 for Transparant
images cf. this bug report:

http://sarovar.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=896&group_id=106&atid=493

and it is possible that it has side-effects.

(if you don't know how) maybe you can send me the file(s)?

sure. if someone can point me to the windows binaries of pdftex 1.40.3 i
can test that.

just some additional infos:
i have the following (different) versions of the included example pdf:

producerincluded by pdftex 1.40.9-rc1
-
luatex 0.22.2 ok
luatex 0.26 bug
luatex 0.28 bug
pdftex 1.40.9-rc1 bug

so it looks like pdftex is the source of the problem :)

sorry, not an option. but i can send you the 'broken' pdf (>400k), so
that you get an impression what i mean. i can also try to make a
minimal, but if it doesn't show up under simplified conditions, there is
not much that i can do.

Try

http://www.tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/texmf/web2c/?sortdir=down&pathrev=5403

(if that's the revision you wanted)

Or simply

thanks Mojca. i found a pool that worked.

the results (don't continue to read if you want a happy end):

pdftex 1.40.3 produces a pdf, that shows no side effects when it's
included by the same version of pdftex (1.40.3).
if i include that pdf with the current 1.40.9-rc1 i get the wrong color
in the transparent area.
mh, who to blame? the producer or the collector?

as mentioned: i have an old version of that example pdf (made with
luatex 0.22) that works ok with the rc1. i'm puzzled.

Please open a bug for pdftex at sarovar and be sure to include all

mh, just made a 'minimal' example and it looks like this bug is not
related to png transparency. this wasn't visible in my real world
example (only transparent areas of the png were affected).

looks more like a mess of layer priorities to me (just guessing).

context example attached (inclusion.tex is the main file, testpdf.tex is
the source for the included pdf).

so before i file a bug report, can someone confirm this? i used pdftex
1.40.9-rc1 for this test.

I don't see any difference with the latest pdftex and with the one
provided in TeX Live 2007. But I do see a difference when adding
   \setupcolors[state=start]
to testpdf.tex. In that case it works, though I have no idea what "no
color enabled" means to ConTeXt - it usually uses black for just about
anything except white. I would not wonder if ConTeXt "forgot" to fill
the background with white, but it's hard to tell.

you are right. i should have better used a color (green was on my mind)
instead of white.

and yes, context "forgot" to fill the background with white.
so now we have a context cavity but no minimal example any more.
unsatisfying.

anyway, thanks mojca for testing.

you can try

Well, that kind of confirms my suspicion. I attach the relevant stuff
from the log file. Basically, ConTeXT registers Korinthia with the
feature gentiumgreek (instead of feature korinthia). I'll see if I can
narrow it down to a more manageable test file and send it to you.

it binds to Serif i.e. the left part of the definefontsynonym (used to
be a complex sometimes left/right thing)

but it should work out well because eventually it's bound to greekSerif

an option indeed it to delay it and assign it in the \definetypeface

(or use [name:GenAR102*gentiumgreek])

i'm still not sure what is the best way to implement this abstraction

[NTG-context] Latest beta not working.

2011-05-06 Thread Bart Wise
If I run "context" with no arguments, I get the following output (and
nothing else):

mtxrun | unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua'

The file, mtx-context.lua does exis:

/home/bwise/context/20110505-beta-extras/tex/texmf-context/scripts/context/lua/mtx-context.lua

If I do an strace, it's looking for the following:

26155 open("./context.lua", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
26155
open("/home/bwise/context/20110505-beta-extras/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/mtx-context.lua",
O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
26155 stat("mtx-context.lua", 0x7fffcf962660) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
26155 stat("mtx-context.lua", 0x7fffcf962660) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
26155
open("/home/bwise/context/20110505-beta-extras/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/mtx-context.lua",
O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
26155 stat("context.lua", 0x7fffcf962660) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
26155 stat("context.lua", 0x7fffcf962660) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)

So it's looking for the mtx-context.lua file in the
path: tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/mtx-context.lua
And it's really located in the
path: tex/texmf-context/scripts/context/lua/mtx-context.lua

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Bart

Sorry, I don't have a minimal example yet, but processing some of my

I haven't succeeded in narrowing down the error, but what does

I understand the rationale, and it could be a nice feature, but we need to
refer to entries in a different register, e.g. from an index of topics to an
index of persons, e.g. \seeindex{Pragma}{Hagen, Hans} or to subentries like
\seeindex{fun+games}{bah+humbug}. Since the latter doesn’t work (or does it
now?), we use \seeindex{fun+games}{bah/humbug}.

Re: [NTG-context] latest beta and \seeindex

2018-06-25 Thread Alan Bowen
I should add too that in this particular volume our contributors sometimes
mention different terms for the same thing as in “This is called p or q”.
Indexing both terms (p and q) separately and the adding x-ref is one way
to go but indexing the more commonly used term and adding a mere x-ref for
the other is more efficient.

hm, sounds like a crappy index to mee (i actually hate these indexes
that force you to 'see' somplace else .. extra lookup)

anyway, i'll add check=no to placeregister so that one can bypass the
check (but i cannot foresee side effects like missing references in
interactiev documents so these have to be taken for granted)

btw, index entries will only work well with an anchor so loose \index

I hear you, but it wouldn’t make sense to double-index a lot of terms (it might
increase usability, but also double the length of the index).

Thank you, that fits my/our needs, I guess.

I don’t understand - why should I try a bare \index?

2018-06-25 Thread Alan Braslau
"Mathematics is the art of giving the same name to different things. It
is enough that these things, though differing in matter, should be
similar in form, to permit their being, so to speak, cast in the same
mold. When the language has been carefully chosen, one is surprised to
discover that all proofs developed for a given object, can be
immediately applied to many new objects; there is nothing to be
changed, not even the words, since all the names have become the same."

btw, index entries will only work well with an anchor so loose \index without
something following it will not show the right page numbers (if at all)

I don’t understand - why should I try a bare \index?
your example had so i had to add some bogus content (anyway, i now
inject a placeholder as warning anyway)
