Yes, but what people are referring to is: running first-setup.sh in the
minimals, which will then run

you shouldn't run mp 1.5 as it's a quite experimental version, the

I don't think minimal (beta) users have a choice in the matter
at the moment.

Actually, this particular warning is a glitch in itself, it seems
a (quite harmless) case of forgetting to clear the condition state.

Nevertheless, there are numerous other problems with mpost 1.500
that I have already fixed, so I may well release 1.501 tomorrow
just to get rid of the most obnoxious bugs in 1.500.

A side note: besides the alpha state of the code, running mpost 1.500
to dump a mem file is pointless: all it does is generate a log file,
no actual mem file is created. This is by design:

  $ metafun myfile

if 'metafun' is a link to mpost version, simply loads 'metafun.mp'
as a preloaded source file instead of looking for an actual metafun.mem.

Best wishes,
Taco

indeed, so normally it should not matter (i'm not sure if we have

Hi Hans,

Thanks for fixing so quickly the issue with the release 2010.03.29.
Now with the latest release, that is
ConTeXt  ver: 2010.03.30 12:47 MKIV  fmt: 2010.3.30  int: english/english
there is an issue with \dots: mkiv considers that this should be in mathmode,
while until yesterday it didn't complain at all.
Minimal example:

%%%
\starttext

Hello Hans\dots

\stoptext
%%%

ConTeXt complains and stops by saying:

! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set.
\dots ...else $\mathsurround \zeropoint \ldots \,$
  \fi

The same example works fine with mkii.

I just ran into the same issue but with $\to$: I was going to report the bug

Actually as I am reporting in another message, it seems that some parameter is

It is clear that I cannot expalin the issue… I am reporting just to help nail

Hi Otared,

it's just an undefined definition (\Umathquad)

\let\Umathquad\quad

works here (donno if this 'messes' up spacing in math)

Well, something is fishy in the math font department with the latest beta. With

!define font: font with name LMMath9-Regular is not found

and

!define font: unable to define LMMath10-Regular as \*MyUtopia14ptmmmr11*

(though I don't use any math in that document). If you want, I can try and find
a minimal example.

Well, something is fishy in the math font department with the latest beta. With
one of my own typescripts, I get dozens of lines

!define font: font with name LMMath9-Regular is not found
!define font: unknown font LMMath9-Regular, loading aborted
!define font: unable to define LMMath9-Regular as \*modern9ptmmmr33*

!define font: unknown font LMMath10-Regular, loading aborted
!define font: unable to define LMMath10-Regular as \*modern18ptmmmr11*
)

and

!define font: unable to define LMMath10-Regular as \*MyUtopia14ptmmmr11*

(though I don't use any math in that document). If you want, I can try and find
a minimal example.

i see, some files are missing in the zip (and as i have them in my dev
path it goes unnoticed when i do a run)

i'll make a newer beta

 Thanks for fixing so quickly the issue with the release 2010.03.29.
 Now with the latest release, that is
 ConTeXt  ver: 2010.03.30 12:47 MKIV  fmt: 2010.3.30  int: english/english
 there is an issue with \dots: mkiv considers that this should be in
 mathmode, while until yesterday it didn't complain at all.
 Minimal example:

 Hello Hans\dots

 \starttext
 Hello Otared \unknown\ hello Otared …
 \stoptext

 Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

Thanks for your attention: actually I was typesetting a file containing an
older one which I have written and typeset in the good old plain TeX, and there
I have used \dots. Indeed saying (as you suggest)
\let\dots\unknown
solves my problem, but the bug I was reporting has to do (I guess) with a more
serious issue in mkiv's math.
In another thread initiated by Peter Rolf I reported that any math in the
latest beta mkiv results in:
! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle

Minimal example:

\starttext
$a$
\stoptext

As Thomas Schmitz points out it may be a matter of math fonts.

[NTG-context] Beta version 2010.03.29 18:49: mkiv broken?

2010-03-29 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi all,

After reading a message of Hans to Wolfgang Schuster, saying that there was a
new beta, I updated the minimals as usual, and it seems that mkiv is broken
now, while mkii works fine:

ConTeXt  ver: 2010.03.29 18:49 MKII  fmt: 2010.3.29  int: english/english

Has something changed in first-setup.sh, or the way mkiv should work?
I am sure Mojca has an idea on the issue :-)

Hi,

The latest beta has a few more fonts defined in type-otf.mkiv. YOu can
do things like

\setupbodyfont[mscore,ss,10pt]
\setupbodyfont[liberation,rm,10pt]

as mscore and liberations are yet unknown the related typescript will be
loaded automatically (new feature).

[NTG-context] beta

2010-01-22 Thread Hans Hagen

Hi,

I uploaded a new beta. The most important new feature is that nested
footnotes are working better now (like notes in tabulate). For the
moment this is not enabled by default. Use

\automigrateinserts

if needed. Test case:

\chapter{What a notes \footnote{1} \footnote{2}
\footnote{3} \footnote{4} \footnote{5} \footnote{6}}

\starttabulate
\NC test \NC test \footnote{7} \input tufte \NC \NR
\NC test \NC test \footnote{8} \input tufte \NC \NR
\NC test \NC test \footnote{9} \input tufte \NC \NR
\NC test \NC test \footnote{10} \input tufte \NC \NR
\NC test \NC test \footnote{11} \input tufte \NC \NR
\NC test \NC test \footnote{12} \input tufte \NC \NR
\stoptabulate

Of course this a mkiv-only feature. More control will be added later.

Hans

There was a luatex bug. Fix is in the repository trunk already,
until the next release just keep using Hans' hack.

you can test the beta

ps. there are also a few issues related to javascript but that needs
some thinking (cleaner but not completely mkii compatible)

[NTG-context] Beta version 2009.05.27 16:26, \footnote and \section

2009-05-27 Thread Otared Kavian

Hi Hans,

The issue I reported some time ago regarding \scetion and \footnote
with mkiv, is still there:
mkiv, LuaTeX version 40, LuaTeX revision 1, (LuaTeX date stamp
2009050813),

ConTeXt version 2009.05.27 16:26.

The issue is as follows:
the text of the \footnote used in the title of a \section does not
show up at the bottom of the page: here is a minimal test:

%%% begin example
\starttext

\section{Testing a section\footnote{Actually for testing footnotes in
the title of a section\dots}} % This footnote does not show up

\startitemize

\item test\footnote{This is a silly remark\dots}

\item test\footnote{This is a silly remark, inside an item\dots}

\stopitemize

test\footnote{This is another silly remark but outside items\dots}
\stoptext
 end example

OK, here is a collection of some assorted bugs. Most of them have been
posted several times. Of course, everybody will have their own feeling
of what is more and what is less urgent, but I will just add a few
words about my own situation:

This test file has been given by Wolfgang Schuster a few days ago. It
shows a problem that is especially annoying after periods because it
disrupts frenchspacing/nonfrenchspacing. For me, very high priority
because the quality of the output is severely reduced (with this bug,
it would be impossible to typeset a book for publication with ConTeXt
mkiv right now).

OK, this should be enough for the time being. For almost two weeks, I
haven't been able to connect to the supelec website to bring my luatex
to the latest version; is this a problem on my end, or is access to
the svn repositories currently disabled?

Would be nice to hear about these bugs; some of the have been posted
several times, but we never heard back about them.

All best

I wish to report that the bib module gives empty references []

hm, i gave it another try ... also in next beta ... is bit tricky as
this is a feature that does not fall in some script/lang category (i'd

in node mode they are implemented by faking real features (a mechanism

2009/5/20 Hans Hagen pra...@wxs.nl:
 Hi,

 I uploaded a beta. Not that many fixes (if someone can collect structure
 related bugs ...), only a few.

Let me raise several issues about luatex-plain.

First, newly released beta breaks luatex-plain,
because luat-sto.lua is not included in luatex-fonts.lua.
Without this, luatex-plain fails when trying to define
storage.shared.attributes_last_private.

Secondly, name: method of font searching does not work.
The reason is version mismatch between font-dum.lua and
luatex-fonts-names.lua.  The former requires data.version == 1.07,
while the latter's version is 1.08, if it is generated with current beta.

Thirdly, some fonts have extension TTF rather than ttf,
so that function resolvers.find_file fails while finding,
for example, gentium font (filename: GenR102.TTF).
Here is my patch:

- return kpse.find_file(name,(kind and kind ~=  and (remapper[kind]
or kind)) or tex)
+ return kpse.find_file(name,(kind and kind ~=  and
(remapper[string.lower(kind)] or kind)) or tex)

Lastly, current beta does not support subfonts contained in
TTC (truetype collection). TTC fonts are becoming more and more
difficult to find, but we still can find them especially in CJK world.
It's quite simple to support them:
just commenting out three lines from font-dum.lua

-- function fonts.define.get_specification(str)
-- return , str, , :, str
-- end

Thank you for your great work, as always.

Hi Hans,

I noticed that a small issue is still there with \scetion \footnote
with mkiv,
ConTeXt  ver: 2009.05.20 00:02 MKIV  fmt: 2009.5.20  int: english/
english

The text of the \footnote used in the title of a \section does not
show up at the bottom of the page: here is a minimal test:

%%% begin example
\starttext

\section{Testing a section\footnote{Actually for testing footnotes in

if the bbox goes through the middle of a line in an xform then you get
(in acrobat) clipped lines so this avoids that problem

[NTG-context] beta (2009-05-11)

2009-05-11 Thread Peter Rolf

Hi,

there are still some problems with footnotes and overprinting. I have
reactivated the old (sorry, non minimal) example for that. But for three
problems it is pretty short :)

1. the footnote uses '1' instead of the chosen '*' (set 1)
2. the footnote marker is not bound to the footnote text (only the text
is moved right)
3. the problem with the undefined \PDFobjectreferenceB occurs again, if
overprinting is used (see different versions of \NoteNumber and \MyFootnote)

One additional note to 3.)
I have to enable overprinting for both the marker and the text to get
the desired result (all should be overprinted). Is this intended?

2009-05-11 Thread Otared Kavian

Hi Hans,

Indeed there is something going wrong with footnotes, and maybe the
following remark may help fix the issue.
It works (for me…) in the following example (note the \sction command
commented out):

%%% begin basic-test.tex
\starttext

This file has been typeset
on \currentdate{}
at \currenttime,
with
\doifmodeelse{mkiv}
{mkiv,
LuaTeX version \the\luatexversion,
LuaTeX revision \luatexrevision,
(LuaTeX date stamp \luatexdatestamp),
using the command: \par
\type{context basic-test.tex}\par}
{mkii,
using the command: \par
\type{texexec basic-test.tex}\par}
ConTeXt version \contextversion.

%\section{Testing a section} -- Here is the issue

\startitemize

\item test\footnote{This is a silly remark…}

\item test\footnote{This is a silly remark, inside an item…}

\stopitemize

test\footnote{This is another silly remark but outside items…}
\stoptext
%%%

On my machine running
mkiv, LuaTeX version 40,
LuaTeX revision 1, (LuaTeX date stamp 2009050813),
ConTeXt version 2009.05.11 12:48.
the markers are correctly shown as well as the numbered notes.

However if I uncomment the \section command the problem appears.

Best regards: OK

[NTG-context] beta (11.05.2009): js interaction

2009-05-11 Thread Peter Rolf

Hi,

some problems with js interaction stuff. I get

! Undefined control sequence.
\dopresetfieldsymbol #1-\checkobjectreferences

for nearly all interaction fields in mkiv. Mkii compiles, but the pop-up
tooltip is only a black box (not the text 'tooltip').

I also had some problems with PDF layer in mkiv (corrupt pdf with older
betas; will investigate after this one is fixed).

*Not urgent at all.*

Minimal example:

\setupinteraction[state=start]

\starttext
Just a \tooltip{test}{tooltip}.
\stoptext

Time for some good news. There is nearly nothing left, that I have not
tested (well, most is MP related). No further problems here
(luatex0.40.1, mpost1.2). And hex colors in mkii work again :)

Best wishes,  Peter

no big deal ... just an obsolete macro (for mkiv) ... eventuall we will
have a complete mkii/mkiv split and it takes a while to remove not
needed code and test it

fixed

The numbering of footnotes are abnormal. Simple example:

This is a test\footnote{t}.

\chapter{E}
This is a test\footnote{e}.

\chapter{S}
This is a test\footnote{s}.

\chapter{T}

The numbering of four footnotes is 1.1, 2.2, 3.3, 4.4 respectively.

In addition, I am looking forward to having the numbering mechanism of

Hi Otared,

When you would update to Minimals 2009.04.28 08:46, maybe you can
get the abnormal result with MkIV :)

BTW, I found MkII can not work with Minimals 2009.04.28 even though I

context --make only generates mkiv formats. To generate mkii formats, use
