Not for 3585542. However, for 2643584:

MS12-006http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms12-006/KB2643584http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2643584
 - Important (XP, Vista, W7, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2): Known issues
[cid:image001.jpg@01CCD06A.52B77F90]
http://i.techrepublic.com.com/blogs/warning-general-2.gif with the SSL 3.0
and TLS 1.0 protocols (critical protocols for Web security) can allow attackers
to decode intercepted communications. This patch fixes the issue. Note that the
vulnerability is in the protocols themselves, and OS's other than Windows are
affected too. You may want to install the patch quickly, due to the relative
ease of intercepting traffic on wireless networks. There are a number of known
issues with the patch, and you may find that some sites no longer work once you
have installed ithttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2643584.

Which means(almost certainly) another patch to fix this patch, coming

Of course, that's no comfort to the folks who have to go unprotected

From the artcle it seems more that the sites do not respond 'as expected'

Re: KB2585542 stops access to websites

2012-01-11 Thread Jon Harris
I agree with this but I too have to limit my scope to only a few machines
(not Telecom servers) about 15 servers over maybe the last 8 years or so.
Even this one does not seem to be a general thing and more towards HTTPS
web servers that are not responding as expected. It will take a while for
the full scope on this one to come out. I wonder where the common thread
is that is causing only some of the HTTPS web servers to have issues and
not all. Could it be that those servers have already been compromised or
are they running a specific version of some software that is not playing
well?

2012-01-11 Thread Andrew S. Baker
It's been about 5 years since I've had the last patch related problem --
not to say I haven't seen other people with them, but they haven't been
widespread enough for me to be impacted. I had one in 2006 or 2007 which
was XML related and impacted BES.

Oh, and I had a machine with a Vista SP1 issue. Maybe 2, but again not
widespread.

I agree with this but I too have to limit my scope to only a few machines

Even this one does not seem to be a general thing and more towards HTTPS
web servers that are not responding as expected. It will take a while for
the full scope on this one to come out. I wonder where the common thread
is that is causing only some of the HTTPS web servers to have issues and
not all. Could it be that those servers have already been compromised or
are they running a specific version of some software that is not playing
 well?

Out of curiousity, when was the last time you had a real 'patched'
caused issue? Ours was the patch that reset OCS which was a few years
ago. It had a limited impact. Since then we've had no patches which nuked
anything. (Disclaimer, we can only put approved patches on certain telecom
servers by contract so who knows).
