That's odd Sprint just sent me one for my home at no change.

OP here. Well, just got off the phone with my Sprint Rep. They want
$130 for the 'Airwave'/MicroCell and $5/Month to use it, with a 24 month
commitment.

Update on Google Voice, I'm playing around with this more and discovered
it's more powerful than I thought. I've found a way to have a USB
Deskphone ring if my Cell # is dialed, and I can place calls through
that phone via Google Voice (Same number as my Cell). I might play
around with that more.

If I can't cut it using that, I'll get the Airware, or utilize some of
the VOIP offering you guys suggested.

Thanks for the tips!

2011-07-13 Thread Art DeKneef
Sam,

Can I ask you a couple of questions about Google Voice? Was it difficult to
setup with the USB phone? Are you using Outlook integration with it?

Reason I ask is someone just asked me to help him with trying to dial from
Outlook 2010 using Google Voice through a USB headset. Trying to do some
research on it and thought you might have some valuable insight.

Thanks,

Art

Thanks David, we only have about 30 lines, and I admitted that it was MY
doing that lowered my signal strength. (That's just how I roll.) That
probably didn't help my cause :)

Thanks for the tidbit though, I might ask around at Sprint and see what they
could do. Even at the price they quoted, we can cough that up.

Thanks!

Do you have a large Sprint account? I have over 100 lines w/ them, perhaps
that helped?

Also - I explained that we would have to switch providers for the President
of the company because of lousy Sprint coverage at their house. perhaps THAT
helped?

I remember it was tricky to get to the right person, my regular sprint rep
had nothing to do with getting me the Airave(s).

There was a separate department that only handled them.

Good luck!

I know at least VZW and AT&T offer femtocells (often called "network
extenders"). A number of companies make cell repeaters that aren't
difficult to install.

Re: OT: I need a Landline! You read that right.

2011-07-11 Thread Kurt Buff
I'm using T-Mobile, and they recently added a new feature to their
Androids: Calling over WiFi.

It counts against your minutes (and I don't care, because I have
unlimited calling), but you just set up your machine for the SSIDs
that you have or encounter, and it dials just fine.

I'm just starting to test this today, but at work it Just Worked.

Of course, who knows what's going to happen once they get swallowed by
ATT, but it's a cool feature for now.

Rather than run a business phone line (read expensive) into my wife's
office, she has a VoIP adapter and a regular cordless phone, and uses a
service from acanac.ca. $120 for the year is a whole lot cheaper than what
the local Telco wants for a business line. Not sure what their offerings in
the US are like though.
