 The first one

Bug 119189 - Print Selection crash Writer when is chosen again
 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119189

cause the Writer crashing but itsn't regression as also observed in
 OpenOffice-3.0.0.

 The second

Bug 119161 - Regression: Writer set table border's line style like none
 during import from .docx

  Hi all,

On the lincese page, http://www.openoffice.org/license.html. It
 still
saying developers could use the Creative Commons
  Attribution License

  2.5http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.5/).
SUN/Oracle only accepted work under this license that was
  non-editable and
for which there was no editable version that could be
  contributed to the
  project..

If you notice carefully, the phrase is in past tense and
  applies only to legacy releases.

Who can help modify this page?

I think a review to the whole page is desirable for
the new release. Any committer can change it using
the Apache CMS bookmarklet or SVN. The big question
is what to write in there.

Is there a reason why the page should mix together copyright
statements on the website as well as license statements on the
releases? Especially since this link appears on every page, it is
  confusing.

Yes, we are still distributing the legacy code.

That is not a very good reason, IMHO. I think we should put the
legacy license prominent on the legacy download page. But I don't see
why it should be in the footer of *every* openoffice.org web page.

If it were up to me I'd have the site copyright statement only here,
and put the release license link on the download pages only.

The download page links to the license page. Maybe we need two license
 pages.

  At least three, I think:

  1) legacy LPGL for where we offer downloads of the legacy release

  2) ALv2 for where we offer downloads of the new Apache releases

  3) A site copyright/license page on all pages, explaining the
copyright on the website contents itself.

But I think it makes zero sense to have page that are not dealing with
releases at all have a link that talks confusingly about the license
on releases. Remember, through the magic of Google, a user could
end up entering any random page on the website, to find the answer to
  their questions.

 +1.

Make links in the appropriate places.

 (1) is linked from downloads.
 (2) is linked from where?
 (3) is linked from template/footer.html - The site license should have the
 current /license.html url.

 - Split the current page in two new pages - legacy_license.html and
 package_license.html
 - Edit license.html into the site license file.

Yes, this is one good and easy way to resolve these kinds of license
problems on pages.

Go ahead and make it so.

The business model is simple. They are paid per install to bundle
these other apps, and they advertize their adulterated version of
OpenOffice via email spam, social network spam, domain squatting and
search engine advertisements.

In general taking down the actual sites is difficult. Some of these,
for example, are off-shore. So our best bet is to go after the
weakest link, namely Bing. The search engines like Bing and Google
generally have a policy against using 3rd party trademarks in ad text.
Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc., have similar policies that could be
used. So instead of trying to shut down the site, you simply prevent
the sites from using the major search engines and social network sites
to confuse users.

However, to raise a complaint against these ads via Bing would require
that we actually have the registered trademark in Apache's name,
something we do not have now. But if we did we could take care of all

Why do you want to do it?

This things are possible:

Generate a folder for a second user. Call AOO with the -env parameter.
You get one process, but two different users. For example one user can
use a German UI and the other user can use an English UI.

Install the AOO in administrative mode with setting a different user

If a user starts soffice.exe he gets a .lock file in his user directory,

Also it turns out that the Extensions site uses the url

I don't know the reason for the linking. But maybe it's because a few
extensions are outsourced from the main repository due to their high load. See:

http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/extended/extensions/

/ExtensionUpdateService/check.Update is one of the most popular files - with
around 5-10 requests per second.

SourceForge has asked to take control of updateexte.services.openoffice.org
which makes sense.

Great.

What do we want to do about download.services.openoffice.org?

It can be switched to the alternative host which is hosted by MirrorBrain
itself, so that this is used for serving downloads instead of the Oracle hosted
service.

Please note however that my fallback of download.services.openoffice.org does
not have all features. It has the mirror redirection (the essential), but does
not serve cryptographic hashes for verification, no automatically generated
torrents, no metalinks.

If you compare the following two URLs, you can note the differences:
http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/stable/3.3.0/OOo_3.3.0_Solaris_Sparc_install-wJRE_en-US.tar.gz.mirrorlist
http://openoffice.mirrorbrain.org/stable/3.3.0/OOo_3.3.0_Solaris_Sparc_install-wJRE_en-US.tar.gz.mirrorlist

Also, what's not visible, is that the fallback host doesn't count downloads.

Mirror selection and redirection are the same. But as you might know, large
downloads benefit from means for download verification, which is why crypto
hashes and metalinks/torrents are useful, especially affecting downloaders with
not less-than-ideal connectivity.

To set up a full fallback, I am lacking the disk space, unfortunately. I don't
have space for the file tree. (I would appreciate donations for running costs
of disk space, or access to server, very much.)

But, no problem, there is the option of continuing by switching to my host as
it is.

Given there is hardware, I could set up a successor for
download.services.openoffice.org, respectively move it to a new home, if there
is interest...

Well I hope there is! I know I am biased, because I'm the one who built
download.services.openoffice.org, and spent some years with it. But I'd bet
some money that nobody wants to go back to pre-MirrorBrain times, where the
really close mirrors were always ignored when you downloaded OpenOffice.org...

See the file http://www.openoffice.org/download/globalvars.js;. Just exchange the content for the
MIRROR_MIRRORBRAIN_URL and MIRROR_MIRRORBRAIN2_URL variables.

Marcus

By the way, here's a disclaimer: I'm also the head behind LibreOffice's
download system. Yes, if you might wonder: I am maintaining the download servers of both
projects and have no problem with that :-)

Neither do I. The purpose is to preserve the legacy for those who still require
access. Apache OO will use Apache Infrastructure and Mirrors (many the same)
and having someone take responsibility for this legacy would be wonderful.

If you have successor hardware ready then the simple way to proceed is to change the dns
for download.services.openoffice.org dns to point to your server. This server is then the
root of the mirrorbrain network and you will be responsible for dealing with
mirrors.

Well, not really, since the mirror network is headless, I'm only redirecting
an old state of the tree, without being the root of the network. I'd be the root of the
network if mirrors would sync from me. But the mirrors have traditionally synced from
another place. (For historical reasons, too lengthy to explain,
download.services.openoffice.org hasn't been the root of the mirror network either.)

Wondering: download.services.openoffice.org was changed to point to my server I
thought, but it's pointing to the Oracle server again now. Was it changed back?

Peter

IMHO the plan was to shutdown the download.services.openoffice.org as
it is hosted by Oracle. Therefore the default downloads were stopped to
go to this server but changed to your server.

However, it seems that the Oracle server is still working. Strange.

Hm, you are talking about running AOO in different processes not

Using multiple threads (which we do to some small extend) would require
our base libraries do be thread safe. Which they are not as far as I know.

Using different processes might lead to all dlls loaded several times

Has anyone tried to make AOO open documents in different processes?

Why do you want to do it?

This things are possible:

Generate a folder for a second user. Call AOO with the -env parameter. You
get one process, but two different users. For example one user can use a
German UI and the other user can use an English UI.

Install the AOO in administrative mode with setting a different user path

on

bootstrap.ini. Then you can run two processes soffice.exe.

If a user starts soffice.exe he gets a .lock file in his user directory,
which prevents, that soffice.exe is started a second time for the same

user.

No, I have no idea what OOo 3.3 will do. But I think it would behave the

yes it should it be the same problem in OOo3.3. I would propose that we
don't bundle extensions that will include an external update Url or
 something like that.

We should bundle extension only that will be supported and completely
 handled by our extension repo.

ah - ok, that sounds reasonable at it's face. Now if an extension is
published at the AOO ext. repository and it's implemented in a scripted
language (basic, js, python, etc) the oxt (extension body) is the source
code, so that makes easy sense.

What if the extension is in java or c++ or some other language where an
external source repository is used, however the extension runtime and
support vector are both through the AOO ext. repository - I would assume
given a suitable license on the source that it would be, eligible, for
consideration.

Anyway - I'm putting forth a question that doesn't need to be answered
today, just thinking out loud I suppose.

If no update Url is given in the extension and the extension is
distributed via the ext repo the update info Was (and hopefully is, will
 be) generated on demand.

Old basis package set remaining is the default behaviour, at least
tested with OOo 3.0.0. On Fedora 16:

- install OOo 3.0.0 (OOO300_m9 9358)
- install OOo 3.1.1 (OOO310_m19 9420)

1) there is an issue with the desktop integration, same for AOO
2) the old basis3.0 remains:

/opt/openoffice.org/basis3.0
/opt/openoffice.org/basis3.1

All ooobasis3.0 packages are kept.

Strange.

Here is what I would expect would happen on an update:

- There is one top-level or meta package that has dependencies on all
the other packages (directly or indirectly)

- This meta package of OOo3.? is replaced by AOO3.4
- The packages of OOo3.? are not referenced anymore and get removed
automatically. The new packages are installed. Everything is find.

So one of the following things goes wrong:
- The old meta package is not removed because the new one has no
relationship to it (maybe because of a different application name)
- The old meta package is removed but some other package keeps a
reference to one of OOo3.? base packages.
- Something else that I did not think of yet (I am currently on a
business trip and am still adapting to the new time zone)
