Correct typo on https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/

2012-10-18 Thread Kazunari Hirano
Hi all,

https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/
In "Categories" and "Feeds" on the page above I can see "Japenese."
I would like this typo to be corrected.
"Japenese" to "Japanese."

Can anyone tell me which list should I ask to correct the typo?

Thanks,
khirano

Sorry, but I'm normally building on Win (as I mentioned) and there the
error does not happen. I had no access to a linux box yesterday, but I
started a fresh checkout&build on linux one hour ago.

Attached is a possible patch (texture3d.patch) which gets it to
compile successfully but I don't want to apply it because it could be
semantically wrong.

Patches are automatically removed on the lists, as it seems.

Also attached is another patch (objectcontacttools.patch) for a
problem that breaks the build later on, because
"drawinglayer::processor2d::canvasProcessor2D" doesn't exist
(according to grep). Simply commenting out that section of code gets
it to compile. It seems that someone has already done similar
commenting for Windows in the "#ifdef WIN32" just above my patch?
Since when was AOO a Windows-only project?

I will also check this; It's not a win-only project, but when developing
it's not easy to build on all plattforms to check. This should certainly
be done for bigger changes and a branch should be used, but even then
there will be a time gap between this and the trunk integration.

Also it was necessary to use ld.gold for at least part of the build.

Please use those buildbots and keep AOO compiling on all platforms.

Yes, these build the trunk, so they check after checkin, too.
I'm on it...

Sorry again, but these implicit conversons seem to be triggered
differently on different systems.

Regards
Damjan

Sincerely,
Armin

read an IMPORTANT NOTE at the beginning:

IMPORTANT NOTE: From OpenOffice.org 3.0 on the dictionary wizard is no

OpenOffice graduates from the Apache Incubator

2012-10-18 Thread Andrea Pescetti
The Apache Software Foundation today announced that Apache OpenOffice
has graduated from the Apache Incubator to become a Top-Level Project,
signifying that the Project's community and products have been
well-governed under the ASF's meritocratic process and principles.

In the near future there will be some changes to the website and mailing
lists, as we move out of the Incubator. Details of changes will be
posted on our wiki at

http://s.apache.org/openoffice-graduation-changes

But aside from these small administrative and infrastructure changes,
work on the next release of Apache OpenOffice continues.

More details in the blog post here:

Herbert is right, these operators are dangerous. I found two ways:
(a) extract RGB by feet from BitmapColor and construct a Color with it
(b) use the 'operator Color()' : '== aBitmapColor.operator Color()'

Where (a) will need more code, and (b) looks ugly.
I tend to (b) currently...

Build nearly finished...

Gratulation both with the graduation, but also your new "job".

Could someone please put a link to the press release on
www.openoffice.org/da with the following text:

---
Apache Software foundation annoncerede i dag at ApacheOpenOffice nu er et
Top-Level Projekt under Apache paraplyen (se pressemeddelelse #LINK here#).

We welcome translations of today's press release about the OpenOffice
graduation. The English source can be found at

Translations are being listed by Rob at
https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/entry/openoffice_graduates_from_the_apache

German and Italian are already available, Japanese is in progress.

For other languages, feel free to put a basic HTML file in the localized
subdirectories of www.openoffice.org (such as www.openoffice.org/de for
German) or, if you don't have access, send the plain text here (not as

Similarly, some other guy asked several days before, that whether there is
an Android version openoffice.
Also similarly, the answer is NO, too. For "Openoffice on IOS or Android"
means not only the completely different implementation of all functions,
but also the brandly new UX design.
Of cause we Openoffice guys know the value of mobile applications, but we
just do not have the golden fingers:)
Personally, I think the cloudy Openoffice would be a better choice. For
based on it, we need not to care about the different specifications among

I think that we need do more two things in the oo.org:

* Remove the incubating logo (top right image);
* edit brand.mdtext, removing "(incubating)" from tagline;

I just created a little wiki schematic page based on this discussion at:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Project+Management+Roles

which will make it easy for us to add roles, people to roles, etc.
[The second column, intended for actual names, is blank so far.]

I'm not really sure what problem we're solving here.

Better defining activities that we do/need to do.
Hopefully soliciting/inviting individuals to take ownership of some of these
activities.

But we can have a full list of roles on the wiki, but not define a
single task... But maybe this is the first step.

yes...and an oversight in my initial enthusiasm. Obviously, it is difficult to
determine if any list is sufficient unless the roles are defined. :/

One way of making this scale and be more self-maintaining is something like:

1) Work with Infra to create a new issue tracking DB for the project.
Maybe use JIRA rather than BZ. This new DB would be for tracking
tasks, not for tracking bugs. (Why a separate DB? So we don't drive
QA team crazy.)

KG01 - Rob, I like the idea of a new system that supports scope items in
addition to work items. We could benefit from more PPM tooling.

Kevin--

Maybe you could raise this as an additional issue or a separate
discussion item, and explain to the community what you mean by this. I
don't know how many folks involved here know what "PPM tooling" is.

2) In the database we put in all the tasks that we know needs to get
done, from running a RAT scan before a release, to verifying the new
Norwegian translation, to UX exploration tasks, etc. There are
probably 100+ tasks that we could think of, more than would be fun to
track on the wiki.

KG01 - In fact, I'm already in the midst of populating a ux opportunity backlog
as BZ does not serve my business needs.

3) Project members can comment on issues and take ownership of them.

4) If a project member is focused deeply on a specific issue, then
they can set themselves as the default "owner" for that issue
category.

In this way, roles are defined implicitly by what tasks you claim and
what categories you set yourself as the default owner.

KG01 - agreed, less role oriented and more work item oriented.

"work items" pretty much determine role I would think except in some
specialized cases at Apache.

The nice thing about this approach is it helps with the communication
challenges of a large project. None of us can read everything on
every mailing list. But we can all read the JIRA notifications that
come directly to us as an issue owner.

Well this part is certainly true. It's difficult to overlook what you signed up
for, when you get notifications.

Another nice thing about this approach is it lets us set up a backlog
of things that are "nice to do someday" but where we have no
volunteer. For example, spell checking the website, or updating the
Indonesian translation. We don't even have a person in the role of an
Indonesian Translator today. But if the tasks are defined in JIRA
then we can the unassigned tasks as a way to recruit new volunteers.
It makes it easier to see where we need help.

KG01 - backlogs also allow is to create candidate release and iteration plans

I think the JIRA/BZ approach definitely has merit in the long run.
For now, I think it would be advantageous to just flesh out the page a bit more
to supply definitions and see what we're missing in terms of typical
actions/roles that we take on, or should be taken on.

And, although people could indeed "enroll" for tasks right on the page, I'm not
explicitly suggesting that as some categories, for example, developer, would have MANY
entries. However, I do think it is valuable for site visitors to at least identify
mailing list moderators, and maybe BZ, wiki, etc. admins.

For example, if person X is assigned role Y, I assume we don't want to
encourage people to contact person X directly for questions or
assistance. We should do our work on ooo-dev.

I assume we also want to avoid the type of hard-coded roles that
existed with OOo, where the names, personal email addresses and even
phone numbers of community manages, press contacts, etc., were on
hundreds of web pages.

Well these are good points actually.

Yes, we should absolutely continue discussions on ooo-dev. I was thinking of
putting in names for the roles. The "roles" are not "hard" as you suggest
here. We don't hire people and they don't have "official" positions. Maybe
more of a way of providing information both to the outside and (P)PMC.

I suggest keeping this light-weight, non-exclusive

the old grey one they can easy revert it via the option dialog.
Examples:
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/test/aoo_new_defautl_background.png
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/test/aoo_new_defautl_background2.png

The change is a good idea, but that blue seems a bit too strong to my eyes.

I agree that the change (setting the default to non-grey, while leaving
of course the possibility to go set the color as it is now) is a good idea.

I played a bit with the colors at

"Blue 9" seems easier on the eyes:

Bitmap resampling in symphony? review for i121233)

2012-10-18 Thread Pedro Giffuni
Hello;

Thanks to Tomaž Vajngerl we now have lanczos and bicubic resampling for
bitmaps.

Looking at similar code in the symphony:

symphony/trunk/main/vcl/inc/vcl/bitmap.hxx (line 54)

...
 #define BMP_SCALE_SUPER 0x0004UL
...

Which would be in (minor) conflict with the change in BZ i121233.

Perhaps someone from Symphony may want to take a look to see
if there is something that we should bring from Symphony first and
how to better adapt the new code?

best regards,

I think people will be happy if we share features as well. That said,
I think there is a point on how many resources each project has.
Looking at LibO conference, there are many things being talked about
on Writer, Base and Calc that could be implemetned or fixed.

Recently i reported a 7yr old bug on memory management, i am sure LibO
also inherit that bug and they haven't fix it mainly because of the
low level technical knowledge to devote to the performance project.

Re: Apache OO General Questions

In my humble opinion it should be possible to have a shared code base,
shared bug fixing but separate features !!

When big companies like SAP, IBM and firmer SUN can do what, it should be
soo much easier for us, being all volunteers working with one goal, to make
quality software free of roalties being paid back to shareholders !!

I have worked a lot in these environments so comming back to earth, working
together is more often a question of people than of philosophies...so let
me put it like this:

Now we are a top level apache project, so let us (meaning the project
committee) be the ones who actively stretch out a hand and say "lets sit
down and have a pow-pow". Writing a lot of words does not reach that goal !

Please remember one thing, we are ALL on the same side fighting for a world
of royalty (share holder earnings) free software !! if you have to pick a
fight, down fight your brother in arms fight those who want your money.

have a nice night.

Kg01 - ideally, colours in the UI, outside the OS defaults should all draw from
a common palette. Candidates include: app icons, toolbar icons, thumbnails,
wizard graphics, custom colour like page background.

In this case, a default background colour change is fine, but only if the
colour value is harmonious with workspace. A goal is to make the page canvas
more predominant so the user can focus in the work. Selecting the wrong colour
would only distract and stand out as odd. Our brains interpret colour like
sound, knowing when a colour does not belong. The wrong colour is like playing
some notes in a song out of key.

Let's explore any UI changes holistically.

Let get some design explorations into the UX opportunity backlog.

- OOoCon 2008 (Beijing) was AFAIR hosted at
http://conference.services.openoffice.org (or something similar) at
servers of CollabNet, I assume. Except the videos that we hosted at
OOoDev because of their size. Those videos I have.

- OOoCon 2007 (Barcelona) and I think also the previous events were also
hosted at http://conference.services.openoffice.org (or something
similar). The videos of the OOoCon 2007 were shot and hosted by a video
team (cannot remember the name) from Slovenia that also did the same job
at OOoCon 2005 (Koper).

- I don't know much about OOoCon 2006 (Lyon), 2004 (Berlin) and 2003
(Hamburg), but I think I have seen OOoCon presentation files in a
check-out of the repository of http://marketing.openoffice.org while I
was working on the OOo marketing project quite a while ago.

- Florian of TDF/FrODev, he was one of the admins of the OOoDev
servers. There might also be some materials there. I'm at least
expecting that the videos of OOoCon 2010 exist in some backups.

I volunteer to contact Florian and Team OOo over the weekend, as to
Andrew I expect he might read this.

Re: Open Office on IOS ?

2012-10-18 Thread Fan Zheng
Well, still personally, without high speed network I would prefer reading
physical books, for I can hardly start my work, whatever the cloudy stuffs
are being used or not.

Being connected all the time, is the way that part of people are living in.
Cloudy stuff serves the people who connected, as the computer stuff serves
the people who plugged.

Oh, Yes, we are talking about the mobility of Openoffice…But I guess there
will be a big intersection between the group of guys who want to use
Openoffice on the mobile devices and the group of guys who are always
connected.

For the people who want to use the Openoffice on the mobile devices but not
be connected?…Yes we need an APP at the time. But as the people can get the
APP from the APP store, I guess they just met the broken network
occasionally.

So, what about enjoying a book in the moment? :D

Juan Carlos,

Thanks, just starting to read it. But I think the right translation is "se
gradua DE" instead of "se gradua EN". (graduates FROM the apache incubator
and not "graduates IN the incubator"). It´s right at the top, the
headline...

Will keep reading...

Ok, here is my revised Spanish translation, based on Juan´s good work.

http://pastehtml.com/view/cffe1ufza.rtxt
(click and read on-line to see formatted html)

The changes I´ve made are underlined. Of course, if you think this
improves on the readability of the text, you need to first remove the
underlined words... (I just did it to easily signal what I changed).

Hi Fernando;

Both changes you propose are correct. Unfortunately there are also some other
terms (escalada, germen) that just dont fit well and some even that I hadnt
heard before (director de liberaciones).

Its not Juan Carlos' fault though ... some terms can be OK on some countries
and sound horrible in others and being neutral is not easy.

Pedro.
