Re: [opensuse] Apache forbidden error

2006-11-04 Thread Víctor Fernández
You have to unmount the partition before you can use fsck. Anyway we would
need more details to help you. Is that just a directory or is there a
symbolic link in the path to that directory? Is it inside the document root?
If you switch to the user Apache is running with (probably wwwrun unless
you've changed it) with "su", are you still able to read the files?

You may find it in any of the mirrors under /suse/projects/mozilla/firefox.
For instance:

No, AFAIK. But you have tons of packages there, so you don't have to search
through the whole Internet in most cases.

It would be cool if someone made a tool to add all those directories to
YaST/smart anyway.

Debian/Ubuntu people usually argue the power of apt and the freedom as
advantages to choose their distro. Well, it's true apt is powerful but apt
may also be used in SUSE (apt-rpm) and SUSE also offers the user more choices
(YaST, Smart,...) while Debian-based distros AFAIK only offer apt. So I don't
see why someone would choose Debian just because of apt. Many also argue
Debian has a big central repository with lots of packages (I'm pretty sure
they aren't using even 10% of the packages) but probably they haven't taken a
look at repos.opensuse.org. Ubuntu also depends on a company (Canonical), so
that's not different from SUSE. About the freedom of Debian, well, I don't
have to comment it, I think everyone understands what "OSS" means in "SUSE
10.1 OSS". At the same time, we have YaST while Debian/Ubuntu doesn't. And
that's really a strong advantage.

So long live SUSE! ;)

You may use dcop:

dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface changeWallpaper

Anyway, you don't need to (and shouldn't) edit kdesktoprc directly. Instead,
use:

dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface setWallpaper /home/user/mywall.jpg 5

The number 5 stands for the mode (centered, resized, cropped,...). Just try it
out with different numbers to find out the one you want.

Re: [opensuse] Suse 10.1 ff and repositories

2006-08-21 Thread Víctor Fernández
AFAIK, the additional package repositories were already supported before 10.1
and RPM is always used. You could also use a different package management
tool before 10.1, like apt-rpm for instance. So the most important new thing
in the YaST of 10.1 is the chance to use different types of repositories, and
now they need to be signed with GPG. You may use traditional YaST
repositories, YUM repositories and others (APT, I think). For the software
management, you may also use Smart, which is a different tool not directly
related to YaST.

For all those questions, opensuse.org is your friend. ;)

Re: [opensuse] official Buttons & Banners as png?

2006-08-16 Thread Víctor Fernández
I agree with having the buttons and banners on PNG format. IMO, the problem is
with GIF you don't have a full alpha channel, so the borders can't look
antialiased. What if your website doesn't have a white background? If you
could take banners in PNG format, you could mix them with the background of
your website and then save them in GIF, JPEG or whatever format you use. It
would also be specially nice to have them available in SVG or another vector
graphics format, that way you could resize them to fit your needs, for
example to put them as the last image in a column of your website.

I have the same card as you and it works perfectly for me. It was just

[opensuse] noticiasdot.com says Novell has decided to kill SUSE

2005-11-17 Thread Víctor Fernández
The spanish website noticiasdot.com has published an article saying Novell has
decided to kill SUSE Linux:

http://www.noticiasdot.com/publicaciones/2005/1105/1711/noticias/noticias_171105-05.htm

It says:

"Novell terminates its desktop distribution "Suse Linux" and announces 600
dismissals

The Linux comunity is agitated. While the interests of the governments to the
free software world rise, the enterprises that operate in this area don't
find the magic formula to return the investment they've spent.

Novell announced this week the dismissal of 600 engineers and the stagnation
to some of the most important projects of the company.

The dismissals affect the development teams of -until now- very important
projects of the firm, who upset to the free software after buying Ximian and
Novell. [Novell bought Novell? Who the hell has written this article?]

The teams of Evolution, Mono and Hula have been decimated. The dismissals have
also affected those programmers who worked backing Firefox and in less
proportion to the KDE development team.

The company officially announced it will stop developing its desktop
distribution and will focus its policy to one license-based
server-market-oriented distribution, competing in this area with Red Hat."

The article continues but I don't have time right now to translate it.

Is it FUD or what? Looks like if Bill was putting his hands in this website.
We should really contact noticiasdot.com so that they remove the article and
don't continue creating confussion.

Edit the file "content". At the end you'll find a line like this:

LANGUAGE en_US

Just change it to the language you wish.

> background
> wallpaper, etc, for a custom distro I create from SuSE?

The wallpaper is stored in the package kdebase3-SuSE. You have to modify the
package to add the wallpaper you want and edit
"config-files/opt/kde3/share/config/SuSE/default/kdesktoprc" inside
kdebase-SuSE-9.3.tar.bz2

Other settings are also stored in kdebase3-SuSE, like the widget style, the
window decoration or the color scheme to use.
