Re: Search Radius

2018-04-22 Thread Nick Sewell
I didn't read the FAQ no but I was aware that you can prefix the city.

When searching for a street, it includes the city in the search as well.
Sure it's limiting the results to that city but more often than not the
result in looking for is near the bottom of a long list, and if I've
pressed increase search radius, even longer.

I had been entering the post code which 99% of the time yields the street I
am looking for as the first result (sometimes the postcode provided to me
is incorrect), but now with the legacy search, i can search for a street
name, restricted to a city, without including that city name in the search.
The street I'm looking for is usually the first result.

So given a choice of searching through a list of stuff that's not actually
what I need and just getting the result I want quickly?

The text search does work fine, you are not wrong. I came here for help. I
got it and then I also get told to rtfm. Thanks for the input.

Re: Search Radius

2018-04-22 Thread Gavinx
Nick,

Have you bothered to look at the faq pages on the web?  It says;

*Text search* There are different ways to use text search. You can enter
the name of the city, then street and building or just city/village and
building (for smaller villages and places with no clear street division).
If you do not find the result you need, tap 'Find more' to increase search
radius.

The clue here is precede what you are looking for with the city.
You can find this information here
<http://osmand.net/features?id=find-something-on-map>.

Please everyone stop whining about the search function. It works fine.

Couldn't find the option initially but found and enabled the plugin and now
have the legacy search.

Its solves most of my problems, would be nice to choose which search the button
on the map opens by default. Also if the 'show street' option from the new
search was available in the legacy one.

That's a decent workaround for now, but are there plans to fix the new
search, or at least make it a configurable option?

Custom maps are not difficult to create. It needs Osmandmapcreator, osm /
pbf file of the region - best to get from here
for
smaller regions, new data every Thursday. But in your case, it is probably
not necessary.

Search Radius

2018-04-19 Thread Nick Sewell

When I search for addresses, frequently I get results that are nowhere near
me (same name, different city etc) which is not all the helpful.

I have been searching for a way to generate a custom map, but I can only
find information about custom tiles and I don't think that will help.
After looking through the app again, I'm not sure that I'd be able to load
a custom map now.

I've disabled all maps except the smallest one that has the area I need but
it does not seem to limit the search results.

Does anyone know if its currently possible to achieve anything like this?
(eg: to limit search results to local-ish places only)
