GlusterFS-3.12.11 packages are built for Fedora 27.
GlusterFS-4.1.1 packages are built for Fedora 28 and Fedora 29 (rawhide).

The Fedora 27 and 28 packages are queued for testing in Fedora Bodhi and
will appear in the Fedora Updates-Testing repo soon. They will be
promoted to the Fedora Updates repo after a nominal testing period.
Release from testing can be accelerated by giving karma in Bodhi.

Packages for other distributions are pending. My Debian and Ubuntu PPA
build systems are currently off-line due to a failed boot drive on the
hypervisor. When I return from BLR in a few days I will replace the

Shout out to ndevos for building the packages in Fedora this time
around; thanks.

TL; not going to write all the gory details.

All the usual packages have been built, and can be found in all the
usual places:

* Fedora in Koji and on download.gluster.org
* CentOS and RHEL in the CentOS Storage SIG.
* Debian on download.gluster.org (arm64 packages coming soon)
* SuSE on OpenSuSE Build Service
* Ubuntu on Launchpad

All the various LATEST, LTM-xx and STM-xx symlinks have been updated.

I'm putting in for overtime, combat pay, and hazardous duty for this.
Let's not do this again any time soon.

AFAIK it's not that kind of announcement.

The centos-release-gluster40 rpm is just a kind of meta package with the
/etc/yum.repos.d/... file(s) to be able to install gluster (4.0 in this
case) from the SIG.

And when that package gets pushed then notice of said push is sent to
the SIG mailing list.

This is not a general GlusterFS-4.0 Is Available announcement.

glusterfs-4.0.0 packages for:

* Fedora 26, 27, and 28 are on download.gluster.org at [1]. Fedora 29
are in the Fedora Rawhide repo. Use `dnf` to install.

* Debian Stretch/9 and Buster/10(Sid) are on download.gluster.org at [1]
(arm64 packages coming later.)

* Xenial/16.04, Artful/17.10, and Bionic/18.04 are on Launchpad at [2]
shortly.

* SuSE SLES12SP3, Leap42.3, and Tumbleweed are on OpenSuSE Build Service
at [3].

* RHEL/CentOS el7 and el6 (el6 client-side only) in CentOS Storage SIG
at [4].

glusterd2-4.0.0 packages for:

* Fedora 26, 27, 28, and 29 are on download.gluster.org at [5].
Eventually rpms will be available in Fedora (29 probably) pending
completion of package review.

* RHEL/CentOS el7 in CentOS Storage SIG at [4].

* SuSE SLES12SP3, Leap42.3, and Tumbleweed are on OpenSuSE Build Service
at [3]. glusterd2 rpms are in the same repos with the matching glusterfs
rpms.

All the LATEST and STM-4.0 symlinks have been created or updated to
point to the 4.0.0 release.

Please test the CentOS packages and give feedback so that packages can
be tagged for release.

And of course the Debian and Ubuntu glusterfs packages are usable
without glusterd2, so go ahead and start using them now. Anyone with
Debian golang packaging experience who can help package GlusterD2 would
be appreciated.

Status update:

I've made some progress on Debian packaging of glusterd2. Debian golang
packaging using dh-make-golang is strongly biased toward downloading the
$HEAD from github and building from that. I haven't been able to find
anything for building from a source (-vendor or not) tarball. Mostly
it's trial and error trying to defeat the dh-helper voodoo magic. If
anyone knows a better way, please speak up. Have I mentioned that I hate
Debian packaging?

Packages for the CentOS Storage SIG are available. Before tagging them
for release they should be tested:

  # yum install centos-release-gluster312
  # yum --enablerepo=centos-gluster312-test install glusterfs-server

I tested the packages here. Also, tested an upgrade form .9 to .10 (from
a package standpoint). Things look good, and packages can be marked for
release.

Packages have been tagged for release. They should appear on the mirrors
shortly.

Since glusterd2 looks like it will be packaged separate from glusterfs
we can probably continue to build and distribute glusterfs for el6 from
the CentOS Storage SIG.

And if EPEL has a golang compiler we should be able to do scratch builds
of glusterd2 packages and distribute that via download.gluster.org.

I haven't tried any of this; it's mainly a thought experiment.

Have we checked that userspace-rcu-0.10 is tagged correctly? From
#centos-devel

[16:48:53] kkeithley: if you need userspace-rcu-0.10 in the
buildroot you should tag it into storage7-gluster-313-candidate
(anything in that tag gets inherited in subsequent builds)

And looking through the old BZs I see that Niels has had to open BZs on
several occasions to poke the CentOS ops to push packages to buildlog
and to the mirrors. (There doesn't seem to be a lot of automation in place.)

We'll need to pay close attention and should probably open BZs —
aggressively — if necessary.

I've opened a BZ[1] to create the necessary tags. Once those are created
I'll follow up (with another BZ) to create the staging (is that the
right term?) directory/directories in the Centos Storage SIG.

Then, depending on how quickly those happen I'll either build a dummy
glusterfs-4.0 package, and/or an actual RC/Alpha/Beta package.

This should prime the pump, so to speak, for the actual release.

RPM (and Debian) packaging is an all or nothing proposition. There is no
respinning just the -glusterd2 sub-package.

> I am going to leave the decision of re-spinning the whole thing or just

I think my real question was what should happen when GD2 discovers/fixes
a severe bug between the regular release dates.

If we take the decision that it needs to be released immediately (with
packages built), do we:

  a) make a whole new glusterfs Release with just the GD2 fix. I.e.
glusterfs-4.0.4-1.rpm  ->  glusterfs-4.0.5-1.rpm. IOW we bump the _V_ in
the NVR? (This implies tagging the glusterfs source with the new tag at
the same location as the previous tag.)

or

  b) "respin" the existing glusterfs release, also with just the GD2
fix. I.e. glusterfs-4.0.4-1.rpm  ->  glusterfs-4.0.4-2.rpm. IOW we bump
the _R_ in the NVR?

Obviously (or is it?) if we find serious bugs in core gluster and GD2
that we want to release we can update both and that would be a new
Version (_V_ in the NVR).

This is a no-op. In github creating a tag or a release automatically
creates the tar source file.

IMO it's clearer if the -glusterd2 sub-package has the same version as
the rest of the glusterfs-* packages.

The -glusterd2 sub-package's Summary and/or its %description can be used
to identify the version of GD2.

Emphasis on IMO. It is possible for the -glusterd sub-package to have a
version that's different than the parent package(s).

> discussed in the maintainers meeting)
One thing not covered above is what happens when GD2 fixes a high
priority bug between releases of glusterfs.

Once option is we wait until the next release of glusterfs to include
the update to GD2.

Or we can respin (rerelease) the glusterfs packages with the updated
GD2. I.e. glusterfs-4.0.0-1 (containing GD2-1.0.0) -> glusterfs-4.0.0-2
(containing GD2-1.0.1).

Or we can decide not to make a hard rule and do whatever makes the most
sense at the time. If the fix is urgent, we respin. If the fix is not
urgent it waits for the next Gluster release. (From my perspective
though I'd rather not do respins, I've already got plenty of work doing
the regular releases.)

The alternative to all of the above is to package GD2 in its own
package. This entails opening a New Package Request and going through
the packaging reviews. All in all it's a lot of work. If GD2 source is
eventually going to be moved into the main glusterfs source though this
probably doesn't make sense.

In all this please keep in mind that Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, and SuSE
all have python-jwt and all have this functionality, and the CentOS
packages will not be a (feature) parity with the other 3.12.3 packages
if the python-jwt changes are reverted for CentOS.

but not later ones, maybe I am looking at the wrong places?

All the packages have actually landed and all the necessary symlinks

you find a bug please see if you can reproduce it with 3.10 or 3.12 and
file a BZ if appropriate.

Reminder Number Two: Since GlusterFS 3.9 the Fedora RPM and Debian .deb
public signing key is, e.g., for 3.12, at
https://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/3.12/rsa.pub. If you
have an old /etc/yum.repos.d/glusterfs-fedora.repo file with a link to
https://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/LATEST/rsa.pub then
you need to fix your .repo
file to point to the correct location of the public key. This is a
safety feature to help prevent unintended updates, e.g., from 3.11 to 3.12.

Also, reminder that 3.11.X has a new signing key. A) just better
"security" by not using old keys that have been around a long time, and
B) to preclude anyone accidentally updating from prior versions that are
signed with a different key.

The Fedora and Debian packages on d.g.o. are signed with the new key.
Other packages, e.g. CentOS, Ubuntu, SuSE are signed with keys from
those build systems.

SLES12 and OpenSuSE Leap42.2 packages have been built in OpenSuSE Build
Service. OpenSuSE 13.2 has been EOLed so no packages have been built,
despite what the Community Packages page says.

Packages have been built for CentOS 7. As with RC0 and RC1 there is no
repository on the servers yet that can be used for installing. There
will be a "gluster-3.10" directory here soon(ish?):

  https://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/6/storage/x86_64/
  https://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/7/storage/x86_64/

Those directories can be used as a "baseurl" in a YUM .repo file.

Until the gluster-3.10 directories appear you can get the CentOS 7
x86_64 RPMs from http://cbs.centos.org/kojifiles/work/tasks/3741/163741
(aarch64 and ppc64le RPMs are available too if anyone is interested in
those.)

There is a nit issue with the CentOS 6 build. Off hand I don't
understand how RC0 and RC1 could have been built from essentially the
same .spec file. I will investigate and send an update when the CentOS 6
RPMs are available.

Packages for Fedora 23, Fedora 25, and Fedora 26 are on d.g.o
Packages for Fedora 24 are queued for testing in Fedora bodhi. Will land
in Fedora Updates-Testing soon, and in Updates after a nominal testing
period.

Packages for Debian Jessie/8 and Stretch/9 are on d.g.o.

Packages for Ubuntu Trusty/14.04, Xenial/16.04, and Yakkety/16.10 are in
Ubuntu Launchpad.

Packages for SuSE Leap42.x, OpenSuSE-13, and SLES-12 are in the SuSE
Build System.

The symlinks on d.g.o — .../LTM-3.8 and .../3.8/LATEST — have been
updated to point to .../3.8/3.8.7
