There are two possibilities for your problem;

  1. the MPlayer itself is old.
and/or,
  2. you have a problem with the H264 codec.

In my case;

Here, I replaced libx264 with packman's
libx264-164-0.164+git20220602.baee400f-150500.1.pm.3.x86_64.rpm and
tested with the 2008 ts file, and no problem occurs.

I can't say for sure without testing the playback of the same video
file as yours, but it could be the MPlayer itself.

Can I test with the file you used too?

Regards.

I was testing mplayer (MPlayer-1.2.r38304-150500.4.pm.1.x86_64) witj
opensuse Leap 15.5 with some old video file. I think the file had been

Apparently you rely on it, would you like to maintain it?

And what distribution are you using?

It does require libx264.so.152 here on 42.3:
$ rpm -q --requires MPlayer|grep x264
libx264.so.152()(64bit)
(that's 1.2.r38008-1.7, installed on Mar 23rd, and that's also what's in the
repo currently)

What does "zypper se -s MPlayer" say?

Kind Regards,
Wolfgang

Hi,

Can not install MPlayer-1.2.r38008 because it requires libx264-148
(libx264.so.148), that does not exist in repository.

Only libx264-152 exist in repository. Suggest to rebuild

[packman] Mplayer opensuse 13.2 i586

2016-07-21 Diskussionsfäden Michael Metz-Heimburg

Dear stuff of packman,

unfortunately your newest version of mplayer
(MPlayer-1.2.r37548-5.3.i586.rpm) does not work on opensuse 13.2 i586.
So I compiled the newest sourcecode of mplayer (mplayer-1.3.0) on a
opensuse 13.2 i586 platform with a nvidia grafic card and on a opensuse
13.2 i586 platform on a notebook with a intel 4000 HD grafic chip and
nvidia optimus grafic chip.

If you like I can send you the compiled version of mplayer.

with best regards

 I thing you're missing the capability of Makefiles.

It takes several _hours_ to do `make' a second time on my
machine with the latest glibc sources (and no files are recompiled a
second time). I think I'll remove `build' after changing one file if
I want to recompile it.

[packman] MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500 now requires arts - is this intentional?

2013-11-09 Diskussionsfäden Manfred Hollstein
Hi there,

I was just trying to update to the latest version of MPlayer on
openSUSE-12.3 (x86_64):

  $ rpm -Uvh --test

/nobackup/update-mirror/packman/suse/12.3/Essentials/x86_64/MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2.x86_64.rpm

  error: Failed dependencies:
  libartsc.so.0()(64bit) is needed by MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2.x86_64

zypper in MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2 would of course pull in any needed
packages, but, to be honest, I'd rather stay away from having this arts
stuff back on my systems... Also, arts will pull in qt3... This doesn't
look proper to me.

Another thing I saw is that zypper believes that my currently installed
version of MPlayer 1.1+35127-4.1 has a higher version number than the
newer one:

  $ zypper in MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2
  Loading repository data...
  Reading installed packages...
  The selected package 'MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2.x86_64' from repository
'packman' has lower version than the installed one. Use 'zypper install
--oldpackage MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2.x86_64' to force installation of the
package.
  Resolving package dependencies...

  Nothing to do.

From what I can tell, 1.1.1+r36500-1.2 looks larger/higher to me than
1.1+35127-4.1

Looking at the package's ChangeLog shows interesting stuff:

  $ rpm -qp
/nobackup/update-mirror/packman/suse/12.3/Essentials/x86_64/MPlayer-1.1.1+r36500-1.2.x86_64.rpm
 --changelog
  * Tue Nov 05 2013 joerg.loren...@ki.tng.de
  - update to version 1.1.1+r36500
* build against external libx264
* build internal ffmpeg-2.1 (build against external ffmpeg also possible)
* update Blue to version 1.8
* update Clearlooks to version 1.5
* added several patches from distro Mageia
* (nearly) complete rewrite of specfile

The (nearly) complete rewrite of specfile looks quite suspicious to
me; could it be the source for suddenly require'ing libartsc again, as
my current version of MPlayer 1.1+35127-4.1 did not require it.

TIA, cheers.

Yes, RedDwarf also found this and initiated a change in our build
environment (see his post Disabling aRts). Newer builds should not
require aRts anymore.

Yes, fscking rpm number comparison (OK, it's not rpm's fault). Our new
version number 1.1.1... is smaller than 1.1+..., although the 1.1.1
is the newer package. We should switch to a different version name. I
opened a bug (PM-92) in https://bugs.links2linux.org.

 Looking at the package's ChangeLog shows interesting stuff:

As said, the currently compiled MPlayer does not require arts anymore.

[packman] mplayer apps are only listed as audio readers in menus

2011-12-17 Diskussionsfäden jdd

Hello,

I know it's not very important, but for newcommers i can be confusing.

In the Kde menus, mplayer and kmplayer (at least) are only listed as
audio readers, when of course they can as well read videos.

So I guess they should be listed both in audio and video menus

Olaf Hering olaf@... writes:

This is reproducible with current Packman MPlayer:
MPlayer-config.patch (part of Packman's patches against MPlayer source) assumes
that if vo vdpau does not work, [vo.vdpau] profile will not be used.

I don't know if this is intended to work (I suspect the profile is loaded before
vdpau-initialisation fails), but I can at least confirm that it definitely
doesn't work.

Apart from that:
If joystick is not wanted, it can be disabled at compilation time, no reason to
do it at runtime.
vo=vdpau,xv should not be needed, it is the current default (if this default
changes, there likely will be a good reason)

The bug was reported earlier:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.package-management.packman/5434
Unfortunately, I didn't understand that the user had not manually added the
profile. (I had originally mildly protested against the changed config file,
though.)

Workaround is to either delete /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf or just the lines
vo=vdpau,xv and vc=ff

Sorry, I jumped to conclusion after see your Mplayer output :
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_device_create_x11: 1

If your system has had an nvidia run package installed at some time you may have some conflicting x and gl libs hanging around. If so you
need to find any libs with nvidia in the name, examine which package the came from and try to remove it with zypper or yast. If it doesn't
belong to anything, delete it. rpm -q --whatprovides fullpath/libname will identify the rpm it belongs to. Especially look in
/usr/X11R6/lib and lib64 in an x86_64 system. You have to refresh your intel driver after doing anything. Mplayer is dependent on libvdpau1
I think.

[packman] MPlayer broken for .flv files

2011-04-24 Diskussionsfäden Olaf Hering

For me mplayer does not play flv files anymore. This happend after the
packman repo reorganisation from a flat directory to the
Essentials,Extra,Games,etc. subdirs. I dont have a specific date when it
broke. The first version that did not work is this, todays version does
not work either:

...
Name: MPlayer  Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 1.0rc4_r33179 Vendor:
http://packman.links2linux.de
Release : 1.pm.1.1  Build Date: Fr 01 Apr 2011 23:23:32
CEST
Install Date: Mi 20 Apr 2011 10:05:00 CEST Build Host: eckhaus
Group   : Productivity/Multimedia/Video/Players   Source RPM:
MPlayer-1.0rc4_r33179-1.pm.1.1.src.rpm
...

Hopefully this is not a rude form of forcing me to upgrade to 11.3 or newer.
However, I just checked on a 11.3 installation and it does not work there
either.

Olaf

I think you mean smplayer forces ffodivxvdpau and not mplayer ?

With mplayer, I can play divx and xvid videos with no problem with a
GeForce GTX260 and also a nVidia GeForce 8400GS, neither of which are
feature set C. (I note feature set C is needed to play divx and xvid
with vdpau).

My wife's PC has a GeForce GT218 (which is feature set c) and it can
play with vdpau and mplayer using 'ffodivxvdpau' both divx and vdpau
movies fine.

 I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 card, and it only has support for vdpau feature
 set A, which doesn't support ffodivxvdpau.

 Since the update, when I try to play DivX videos, MPlayer forces
 ffodivxvdpau, when it should be using ffodivx... The only workaround is to
 disable vdpau completely, which is really annoying.

 Shouldn't MPlayer recognize the video chipset and not force ffodivxvdpau if
 it's not supported?

 cat ~/.mplayer/config
# Write your default config options here!
nojoystick=yes
vo=vdpau
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,ffodivxvdpau,
ao=alsa

** So my suggestions are:
- put there (/etc/mplayer/mplayer.cfg) nojoystick=yes ## it took me some
time of investigating why shortcuts don't work
- put there at least ao=alsa,pulse, ## there is used by default oss ..
please note trailing ,
- put there at least by using same mechanism prefferd outputs (vo= and
vc=) vo=vdpau,xv, makes a sense beacuse default is determined poorly

[packman] MPlayer

2010-09-13 Diskussionsfäden Carl Eugen Hoyos
Hi!

For several years, playing H264 PAFF samples (like most 1080i samples recorded
from DVB) was not possible with MPlayer's native mpegts demuxer (which still is
the default for playing ts recordings) without seeing horrible A/V desync. Even
playing them with -demuxer lavf showed jitter problems (at least on some
display devices).

These timing problems where finally fixed last week, I did not receive any
problem reports since, so I strongly recommend to update MPlayer.

[packman] MPlayer with VA-API

2010-04-13 Diskussionsfäden Mariusz Fik
Hi,

Is there any chance to build MPlayer with support for VA-API?
Nows from MPlayer site:
Newer ATI cards and Intel ATOM owners on Linux can utilize the VA-API
hardware accelerated H.264, WMV3/VC1, MPEG2 and MPEG4 playback using
MPlayer.
Instructions can be found at
http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi/http://www.splitted-desktop.com/%7Egbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi/

To make it real:
MPlayer needs VA-API patches and need to be build against
libvahttp://www.splitted-desktop.com/%7Egbeauchesne/libva/.
Then we need install
xvba-videohttp://www.splitted-desktop.com/%7Egbeauchesne/xvba-video/(XvBA
backend for VA API - for fglrx driver) and/or
vdpau-video http://www.splitted-desktop.com/%7Egbeauchesne/vdpau-video/(VDPAU
backend for VA API - for nvidia driver).

All necessary files can be found on
http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauchesne/

 gleich was fuer ein Video-Format man probiert (mpg, wmv, flv, ...).

Vielleicht funktioniert xv für Deine ATI Karte nicht?
Was passiert bei mplayer -vo gl:yuv=2 (oder nur gl)?

 Selbstverstaendlich habe ich auch schon probiert libvdpau_nvidia zu
 installieren, dann landet man hier:

Das sollte nicht erforderlich sein;-)

Um die häßlichen Zeilen im output abzustellen, am besten in ~/.mplayer/config
folgende Zeilen hinzufügen:
vc=-mpegpes,
vo=-vdpau,
oder
vo=-vdpau,-xv,

It is in ffmpeg-soc:

svn://svn.ffmpeg.org/soc/wmapro

If you don't want to use it for x86-32 (where wmadmo is available), I still
recommend it for x64, because I fear it will still take some time to get into
ffmpeg-svn.

The only possible problem is the change to avcodec.h: wmapro also works without
this change (with warnings about too large frames from time to time), but the
change also fixes some flac files.

I contains code that allows video players with vdpau support to actually use
hardware accelerated decoding. AFAIK, (sadly) only MPlayer currently uses this
approach. Since packman's MPlayer uses static libavcodec (as it should), it does
not make much difference if your ffmpeg binary supports vdpau (for video
players) or not.

Maybe others will use it, we have different players using external
ffmpeg (libxine, vlc, gstreamer, maybe more).

I've also build libxine 1.2 with vdpau support, but doesn't make much
sence to include it to the repository, the frontends will not use it
until they are compiled against it (libxine.so.1 vs. libxine.so.2).
It's in testing/xine-cvs/xine-lib-1.2 on our mirrors.

I hope so.
vlc will (hopefully), since they are still working on it.
The only xine implementation I found is here:
http://www.jusst.de/vdpau/filedetails.php?repname=xine-vdpaupath=%2Fsrc%2Flibvdpau%2Fvdpau_h264.c
It is a nice example of include all the problems of Nvidia's original
implementation. I hope that is not the final version.

Thanks for the hint.

I just packaged the VDPAU headers by extracting them from nVidia driver
packages:
http://packman.links2linux.org/package/nvidia-vdpau-devel

So.. that should be enough for VDPAU support in MPlayer.

Henne? :)

[packman] MPlayer mit neuerem ffmpeg?

Hallo,

[packman] MPlayer-1.0rc2_r27637-3.pm.3 not stable?

2008-12-20 Diskussionsfäden Malte Gell
Hi there,

I installed MPlayer-1.0rc2_r27637-3.pm.3 on openSUSE 10.3 and MPlayer
can't even play a DVD.

E.g. mplayer dvdnav://2 -dvd-device /dev/sr1 causes MPlayer to crash. So
my question is, is this version too unstable to use it?

Ok, I now found out, this is actually a libdvdnav issue. Packman
provides libdvdnav 4.1.3 which causes this behaviour. A downgrade to
libdvdnav 4.1.1 has solved the issue. It would be nice if Packman would
also provide a downgrade, so people can play DVDs with MPlayer again.

[packman] [MPlayer-1.0rc2_r27637-1.pm.4][OS11.0/x86_64] dvdnav:// eventually crashes mplayer

2008-09-22 Diskussionsfäden Dawid Hanak
Hi,

I've heard that new packman packages of mplayer contain dvd navigation
support and so I wanted to try it:

$ mplayer -dvd-device /dev/sr0 dvdnav:// -nocache

The dvd plays for some seconds but eventually fails:

mplayer: /usr/src/packages/BUILD/trunk/EXTERNAL/libdvdnav/src/vm/vm.c:1179:
play_Cell_post: Assertion `0' failed.

Did anyone encounter the same problem?

Yes.

 If so, mplayer should be using PulseAudio
 indirectly (because of the configuration we have for alsa and SDL for
 GNOME), and working perfectly, as it does here

Well, it indeed worked, but videos were slow/choppy. I followed the
following instructions: http://tinyurl.com/5zve3r and removed Pulse. Now
it works perfectly. Thanks anyway. Cheers!

[packman] MPlayer compiled with GUI option?

2007-08-28 Diskussionsfäden Chris Arnold
Here is my problem:
I am using MPlayer-1.0rc1try3-1.pm.1 from packman site (RPM)
 on SLED10 SP1 with gnome. MPlayer works if my xgl dekstop effects are
 not enabled. When enabled, mplayer opens and then closes without any
 error messages. When i disable xgl, mplayer works fine. What in xgl
 could be causing this problem? How can open mplayer from a console to
 see any error messages? Thanks for any help

So i wondered if mplayer from packman site had any suggestions? What
options is packman RPM compiled with?
