Re: radio transmitters
I'm not really positive, but I've been told that it's the field strength that makes the difference. Since 1985 I've been running some type of transmitter all of strengths of 1 to 3 blocks with the Ramsey stuff the strongest and I've never had a problem, probably because I have sense enough not to interfere with anybody else. I also don't transmit rap or any synthesized speech unless I can help it. I decided LONG AGO I wanted external speech, which brought me to the Dec Talk Express, one of the most higher, overpriced pieces of equipment I have ever used, but that's another topic. - Original Message - From: "hank" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. CD duplicators
Basically I heard on one of the OTR lists that CD duplicators can be bought that would copy a CD at about 52X in three minutes or so. I would be interested in something like that, since I would like a better chance that the CD would copy correctly and be a good copy if put in a duplicator. This is as opposed to taking 40 minutes or an hour to copy at 4x which the OTR groups want you to use. This was a device, as I understand it, where you put the CD you want to copy in one slot and the CDR blank in the other and then copy it. If I am misunderstanding something, please let me know. mp2
I collect OTR and for some reason some of the OTR was in MP2. I don't know why it was. I was also told that if you changed the file name to MP3 from MP2 the programs would play. The weird thing is some of the stuff (maybe mp2 or mp3) plays on the sony but not the Iriver and not the other stuff. Frankly, I am now mystified. This is more complicated than I thought. Re: Tv Tuner Cards
Hi. I really can't tell you if these things are accessible with jaws because i've never had the chance to use it with my Pinnacle card. As for onscreen headlines, yes, i've tried it before and it works a charm. Btw, I went over to the website yesterday, and I read that they've resolved the issue with the sound blaster series. But their advice is that end users should use it with the audigi series rather then the sblive series. Cheers! - Original Message - From: "G. I hagve also heard that the Hauppage software is good - as good as the Pinnacle though? Also do any of these programs allow us to access an EPG on a website so that we can choose a programme and have it recorded easily? One final question. Yes, the software is very accessible with window eyes, and i too am a window eyes user. However, i've heard that because these cards take up alot of resources, and so does the SBLive series, there is often a conflict between the 2. I myself have a delta 10-10 installed, and the delta and the Pinnicle seems to have struck up a very good relationship. Also, there was a time when your pc would hang if you were watching tv for like a couple of hours, and the pc was inactive and the screen saver came into effect. This bug seems to have been squashed, and i can now watch tv, check my mail, and concentrate on learning programming, all at the same time without fear of my pc hanging. Also, and this is very important, i can access all the broadcasts, whether they be on VHF, UHF or cable. All in all, I am extremely happy with my Pinnacle tv tuner card. Re: Tv Tuner Cards
Can I expand this a little? If they work with Window Eyes does this mean they'll be fairly Jaws friendly. I have an Asus FM/TV tuner card which worked quite well for a while (now stopped for no reason) I did how3ever find the Power VCR software very difficult as it was accessible but only in certain parts and relied upon the Jaws cursor a lot. I hagve also heard that the Hauppage software is good - as good as the Pinnacle though? Also do any of these programs allow us to access an EPG on a website so that we can choose a programme and have it recorded easily? One final question. What is the name of the Pinnacle card and software and if anyone has a Hauppage one what is its name and number? Thanks. Gordon McFarlane - Original Message - From: "Jaffar Sidek" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Another company that makes fairly accessible software to control the tv tuner card is Leadtek so I understand. I'd be interested to know your experience if you own one of these tv tuner cards. For example some tv chanels scroll such things as news headlines on the screen. Fwd: Remaster craftsman
*** BEGIN FORWARDED MESSAGE *** On 23/08/2004 at 1:24 PM Barbara! <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Remaster craftsman Posted August 22 2004 By Lawrence A. Johnson Classical Music Writer Sun Sentinel.com, South Florida In the recording industry's infancy, the voices of artists such as Enrico Caruso, Luisa Tetrazzini, Beniamino Gigli, Nellie Melba and Tito Schipa provided music aficionados with their first exposure to opera. Yet the sound emerging from these primitive recordings was often a tinny, ghostly reflection of what these singers sounded like in the flesh. And today, the scratchy surfaces of the era's fragile shellac 78s bear the pops and clicks of intervening decades, requiring immense patience and concentration from listeners. With the advent of the digital era, celebrated musicians of the early 20th century have gotten a new lease on life. And no one has done more to make their artistry sing again than remastering wizard Ward Marston. For three decades now, the Pennsylvania native has provided a bridge to our musical past. Marston is a sonic magician, hailed for his restorations of antique, often intractable historical recordings. With 500 CDs worth of material released to date, his work has garnered international acclaim and several honors including a Grammy and Gramophone Award. "You want to get the sound as natural as possible," said Marston, from his home outside of Philadelphia. "I listen to as much live music as I can to keep the sound of real music in my ear. I always try to make the record sound like music -- not like records." Much as art experts repair damaged paintings and film historians refurbish deteriorating movies, Marston is the acknowledged leader in the field of audio restoration, approaching the task with the precision and meticulous concentration of a master surgeon. The presence, immediacy and striking amount of sonic detail that emerge from Marston's remastered work are little short of astonishing. In Marston's second go-round restoring Caruso's complete recordings for the Naxos label, the Italian tenor's vibrant voice fairly leaps out of the speakers with impact, dynamic nuance and tonal subtleties that could only be guessed at previously. Other sonic excavation work has brought soprano Nellie Melba, violinist Maud Powell and tenor Tito Schipa to an entirely new generation of music collectors. The fact that the 52-year-old opera fan has been blind since birth has been only a modest impediment to his work. Marston admits it may have enhanced his legendary ear for pitch and intonation, but claims no special qualities over his sighted colleagues. "I think it's probably true that I can focus my attention perhaps more," he said. "But I'm the only blind person doing this, and there's plenty of other people with eyesight doing great transfer work, too." Cache of Caruso Marston's fascination with the artists on historical recordings came at a very young age, when the 5-year-old unearthed a cache of Caruso 78s at his great-uncle's house. Marston said he will never forget the moment when he played the first Caruso aria. "I was absolutely enthralled," he recalls. "It was like I was immediately transported to a different place. It really took me into another world. I wanted to know more about this kind of singing." Marston's uncle was an avid collector with hundreds of 78s. Soon young Ward was delving into arias and songs sung by John McCormack, Tetrazzini, Amelita Galli-Curci, Ernestine Schumann-Heink and Tita Ruffo. When he was 8, his uncle gave Ward his entire collection, and the boy scoured thrift shops for more. "I was fortunate in that I grew up at a time when the LP was replacing the 78 and people were discarding them," he says. Marston's musical interest quickly expanded to orchestral music, especially performances led by the great Leopold Stokowski, who has remained a favorite. Honing his craft Marston's hobby took on a practical application and charted his future while he was attending Williams College in Massachusetts, where he earned his history degree. Working at the college classical radio station, he became frustrated by the difficulties in playing old recordings of extended works. "I wanted to play 78s," he recalls. "I tried to figure out a way to join the sides together so I could play an entire symphony without flipping the records over every four minutes." Rather than the standard tape-splicing method, Marston used a stereo tape recorder, putting one 78 on one channel and the next on the other. He then overlapped the two to achieve seamless side joins and ensure uninterrupted musical continuity without jarring interruptions. After graduation, Marston produced and engineered a comprehensive 58-show series on Philadelphia public radio, Stokowski: The Philadelphia Years. Early work doing transfers for the International Piano Archive on the Desmar label led to retooling Budapest String Quartet performances for CBS. Marston honed his craft over the six years
second rwavrecorder question
If I use rwavrecorder to convert files, will they all be in one piece, not separate files? Also, do I then have to use CDEX to change them from wav to MP3? Thank you. By the way, I don't see what the commands are. rwavrecorder question
Can rwavrecorder be used to convert an entire directory of files at once into MP3? If so, how is it done. Has anybody thought of doing a tutorial on this for main menu? Thank you. Re: FM TRANSMITTERS
They are at http://ccradio.com and they are $69.95 I've had mine for a year and love it. There is an adjustment I needed to make to mine so it would cover a usable distance, but I really love it, audio quality is excellent - Original Message - From: "hank" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: Tv Tuner Cards
Hi. I have a Pinnacle card. Cheers! - Original Message - From: "djc" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, August 23, 2004 1:14 PM Subject: Tv Tuner Cards I've been chatting about software that drives tv tuner cards and I'd be interested if you own one to please tell us of your experience. I understand for example that Pinacle makes a great tv tuner card and the software is quite accessible with Window-eyes. Another company that makes fairly accessible software to control the tv tuner card is Leadtek so I understand. I'd be interested to know your experience if you own one of these tv tuner cards. For example some tv chanels scroll such things as news headlines on the screen. My friend who uses the Pinacle software tells me that through a web page He can actually read these headlines and so forth.
