Re: Changing CDexoutput directory
Hi, Norma, Open the cdex.ini file so you can modify it. Under "general" there's a line after the one saying what directory you wabnt mp3s to output to. Modifying that line seems not to do any good. Go to the next line that starts with cmvoutput, and then put in the direcorry you want, remembering to delete everything after the c:\ first. That oughta do it. Just for safety's sake, change all directories in such lines to whatever you wish and save a backup copy of the original in case you need to start from scratch. Re: NFL field pass and RP8.
Well, I don't know what to say. I was running JFW 5.0, Windows XP (not SP2), WinAmp 5.04, the latest tara pluging and Real Player 8 Basic, and as I pointed out in my previous note, I was able to get it all to work with NFL Field Pass without using any special links or anything. the only real trick was not using WinAmp to sign up for the service in the first place and then making sure WinAmp was still associated with the .ram file extension afterwards. As I said, I've since moved to RP 10.5 for other reasons. If I end up going back, and I'm able to get it all working together again, I'll let everyone know. windows media player question and winamp troubles
Hi yall, I had a bunch of weird things happen last night and I need to figure all of this out. Let's try to start from the top. Hopefully this isn't too lengthy but I figure the better the explanation, the better the chances of straightening out the hassles. First, I changed the operating system from windows 98 to windows 2000 pro and I've got JFW 4.51 pro as a screen reader. While running winamp 5.03A, I discovered that the first annoying thing that occurred was that when I wanted to play a cd with it, the open files dialog box would come up and the disk wouldn't play even though I associated it with playing disks. Last night, I found that both JFW and winamp share the same volume control wav/mp3. This of course isn't good because when you reduce the volume in winamp JFW's also gets reduced. In my previous setup when I was running windows 98, Jaws was linked to the pc-speaker volume control and winamp to the wav/mp3 control which worked like a charm. I tried to set this same configuration up last night, but whenever I would start winamp, the mute all checkbox would activate and the wav/mp3 volume would drop all the way to zero. This went down 3 times. So I said screw it and uninstalled the winamp. If it's not gonna work I figure what good is having it around. If there's a way to configure it to work and not fool with JFW's volume I'd sure appreciate help with it and It will be no prob for me to either do a re install or snatch winamp 5.04. Now on to my other situation. I've got windows media player 9 series for win2k and I would like it to play all of the songs in a folder instead of just one at a time. How do you get it to do that? Winamp does this without a hitch. Also, while playing a cd with it, for some unknown reason when I tried to go to the internet and do stuff the pc would crash. Weird I'll tell ya never had that happen before. I've gotta know, what in the world is going on here? I've never had this much chaos and mayhem with my audio. Thanks for all help and listening, one confused brother. RE: Winamp 5.04 accessible?
With the 5.0 version, my jaws couldn't read in the edit bookmarks part, the list of bookmarks. It could without a problem in earlier versions. Does anybody know whether this has been corrected, and also does 5.04 play streaming windows media files out of the box? Thanks. -Original Message- From: Matt [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 1:31 AM To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: Re: Winamp 5.04 accessible? Yes, it can be made accessible, but it's pretty tricky. You have to switch in to Classic Winamp in order for everything to work as it did before. To do this, you need to access the preferences dialogue, and arrow down to the skins area of the tree view. In the options panel, you will find that you have a choice between Classic Winamp, and Modern Winamp. It defaults to Modern Winamp. Jaws will also go a bit weird at this point, but don't panic. If it says, List box Winamp Modern 2 of 2, then obviously you just up arrow once to select Classic Winamp. Then rather than trying to figure out where it's thrown your cursor, just exit Winamp completely and re-open it. Re: NFL field pass and RP8.
I just wanted to echo Tim's sentiments. I specifically tried to use RP8 on a machine running 98 S E and was unable to hear the stream until I upgraded to RP10. A Real.com tech told me specifically that NFL field pass would work only with Real Play 10 or Real ONe. Re: File formats.
I've certainly seen hard drives of 200GB and, of course, if you have a spare bay, you could just add another 80GB in there to double your capacity. I'd advise this every time overcompromising the quality of your music collection down to a level that you may regret in the future. Most probably know but, if you reduce the bit rates of your music you will lose quality that you will not be able to get back to by increasing the bit rates at a later date. Re: NFL field pass and RP8.
I've since moved up to Real Player 10.5 for other reasons, and I'm not sure if I'll be going back to Real Player 8 or not. I definitely would prefer to use WinAmp to listen to the NFL games though, since I did find out that the tara plugin doesn't work with Real Player 10.5. One annoying thing with Real Player 10.5 is that I don't know how to control the volume of the game broadcast independently from the volume of JFW. If anyone knows, how to do this, I'd appreciate the information. What I did to get NFL Field Pass working with WinAmp, Real Player 8 and JFW was the following. First, to sign up, I went into WinAmp preferences and made sure WinAmp was not associated with .ram files. When I clicked on a broadcast link, I then got the screens needed to sign up for NFL Field Pass. I went ahead and signed up for the seven day free trial to make sure everything was working before I laid out the bucks. After I was signed up, I had to do the following. I went into my Windows startup configuration and made sure no Real Player processes were being started automatically. These got added when Real Player was started up after the previous step where I signed up for NFL Field Pass. I then went into WinAmp and reassociated it with .ram files. Then when I clicked on a broadcast link, I got the IE dialog asking me if I wanted to save or open the file. If I choose open, the game would start streaming through WinAmp. Let me know if you have any question. I may not be able to play around much, unless I end up going back to Real Player 8 myself. Re: the Aviva
The last news I heard was this summer at the ACB convention. They said they were working on another one called the Iris. It's a smaller unit that is spacifically aimed at the internet radio market for those who don't have computers or just want to get internet radio stations more easily and quickly. It's a nice unit and it's about half the price of the aviva. By the way, they, at that time, had not scrapped the Aviva. They just delayed it a bit so they could concentrate on getting Iris out first. Hopefully we'll see it soon. - Original Message - From: "Ray Slaton" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 10:07 PM Subject: the Aviva > Hi Folks, > Just going through some really really old e mails and found a post that was > made on the pc audio list in February about a company called talking > solutions that was making a talking dvd player called the Aviva. > I think there was a Main Menu review of it. > Tried going to there web site but couldn't find it. > Any news on the Aviva? > Thanks. > Ray Slaton > > > ___ > PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... > http://www.pc-audio.org > > To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

NFL field pass and RP8.
If I read an earlier post correctly, Christopher Chaltain reported success getting NFL fieldpass to work with RP8. If anyone out there has done this and has time to document their steps it would be greatly appreciated by at least one subscriber. I have Windows XP Pro, and RealPlayer 8 +. I registered for the initial seven day NFL field pass tryal, but when ever I click on a live or archived game link I am again presented with the fieldPass sign-up page. I enter my log-on info and receive a page indicating that I am already registered. There does not appear to be a listen link anywhere on this page -- it simply indicates that I can link back to NFL.COM. I have cookies and scripting disabled so I went into IE settings and restored factory defaults for everything but the result did not vary. I disabled Norton Antivirus and my Spyware software and still no change. I prefer playing RealAudio content with Winamp hence want to avoid installing newer RealNetworks code if at all possible. Last year my desire for NFL field pass forced the installation of RealOne and that cost me the ability to fast forward or jump to offsets in RealMedia files. Given RealNetwork's track record I don't expect that 10.5 changes anything in this regard? Thanks in advance for any/all advice and best regards.
