Re: Looking for a better pare of computer speakers
Hi everyone, What follows is my opinion, the Bose flame war is about as old as the Internet. Gary Wood wrote: Hi Byron. If you can afford them, Bose usually makes a good pair of speakers. - Original Message - From: "Byron Stephens" I don't know if this would be a good place for this but I'll do this anyway, but I'm currently shopping around for a good set of computer speakers. I've been looking at the logitech line of products, but was The "Bose sound" was disappointing. No high frequency extension and dropouts over the frequency range. I can't get figures from Bose, they don't publish them, so this is subjective. I took a cd and listened to some music and I came to the above unsubstantiated claim. For computer speakers they are not that bad, but I think Cambridge is cheaper and sounds a bit better. Not HiFi though. The Logitech range is not bad. Good value for money, but worse than Cambridge. Good for games and movies, suffers if you are listening to jazz or classical music. Ok for rock, fine for techno. Do you want 2, 2.1 or 5.1 sound? How much money do you want to spend? How much space have you got? Do you want to listen to music, does fidelity matter? If you are listening to mp3's mostly, there is no point in forking out large amounts of money for HiFi computer equipment. I pipe my flac's to the DAC on my Receiver that drives my large system. Fantastic for quality. I also have a $80 set of Chinese junk 5.1 speakers that is stacked around my PC for playing games. Go and listen to lots of speakers. Take you own cd. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Best way is to use a backup program like dvd shrink. Only thing with that is if you back the whole dvd you stand a chance of losing quality because it has to compress everything. DVD Shrink allows you to choose to backup just the movie and you can pick which audio streams. Real-time MIDI Quantization
I'm looking for a software or hardware solution, if software preferably something with very little CPU utilization (ie. a standalone app, not a full blown sequencing program) that can quantize incoming MIDI notes in real-time. For example, somebody playing a keyboard MIDI controller would have their notes quantized to quarter notes at 140bpm and those notes would then trigger a synth. Anyone know of a solution? Re[2]: Wave Pad
It sure is quite complete and that's what surprised me as far as how complete it is and how the author just gives it away. There are probably some things you can't do with it but it's pretty good. *** REPLY SEPARATOR *** On 1/24/2005 at 6:27 PM Gary Wood wrote: >Hi Don. Can you use the ipod for other tasks, doyou use jaws onit? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of KStarrett Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2005 7:34 AM To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: RE: Apple Ipod Shuffle accessible? Hi Chris, I got an ipod just after Christmas and -- with a little help from some listers -- I am able to transfer music and manage it once it's on the ipod. I bought a program called Anapod explorer (from a company called Red Chair Software) that allows me to access the contents of the ipod in a tree format just like windows explorer. The program is pretty cheap (around $25) and works great with jfw. The one drawback with anapod is that you need another program to do the ripping and encoding of the tracks. Red Chair Software recommends a program called audio grabber but I'm using Itunes to do the "import" of tracks mostly because it's ultimately easier despite the unfriendliness of the app in general. The long and short of it is that you can absolutely transfer and manage your music on the ipod. I love the ipod and am not sorry I bought one. My understanding of the ipod shuffle is that, unlike the ipod, you have to load the music in the order in which you want to hear it. In other words I don't think you can do playlists or random play. That's not an issue for me since I load the songs in my preferred order anyway. Sorry for the lengthy post but I hope it was helpful.
