Re: re unable to install Ipodder

2005-05-22 Thread Gary Wood
You might need to go where you installed iPodder 2.0, and uninstall it.
Then go to the Tunehead online where the link to download it resides, then
download it again. I hope this helps. Maybe Chris Garsted can help you get
back on track using iPodder again. This is just a suggestion, but this is
the only thing I can add, at this point. If this doesn't help, I hope you
find further help.

A system restore? You mean the method for undoing changes you've made in
Windows? I don't understand how this would help. Nothing disappeared. I
uninstalled a program. This wasn't an accident. It was intentional. And
now I'm having problems installing it once again. I wouldn't want to
referse the uninstall, because that wouldn't help me learn what the

re unable to install Ipodder

2005-05-22 Thread Yardbird
Earlier, Chris the tunehead was kind enough to reply to my inquiry below,
although I seem to have confused him by adding a second message to the
first. So here's my original question, again. I hope someone can help with
this because it prevents me from either reinstalling my previous version of
Ipodder, which Chris says I never should have bothered to replace with an
update anyway, or the update, either. Please note that the question is
about an error message and a failure while running the installation. It's
not a question about whether to install the update (I understand now that
this wasn't advisable in the first place), nor about how to use Ipodder,
which I would have begun learning to use, and then had questions about, if
only I'd not tried to update it so that all this happened.

If this is still not clear, please ask. Thanks very much to all.

Daniel

I wrote:
Having decided to spend some time this Sunday afternoon reading up on how
to subscribe to and download podcasts, I launched the copy of Ipodder 2.0
that
I'd successfully installed a couple of weeks ago.

I was about to explore the interface and its menus and options with Jaws,
when I got a notice that there was an update available that resolved some
I-Tunes related issue. Well, I don't use I tunes, but, thinking this
would be a harmless and easy procedure, I clicked yes to allow myself to be
taken
online to a download site that I think was called EasyNews.

I found the link for downloading Ipodder for Win XP, and eventually was
delivered the download after a few minutes' wait.

Then I clicked on the executable file in its destination folder to begin
the installation. I assumed it would overwrite and supersede my earlier
Ipodder version with no difficulty,

Immediately upon beginning the actual installation process, I got a
dramatic Windows error tone and the message that some file couldn't be
written.

Well, I didn't know what that implied or signified, so I tried out the
Retry option, which didn't work, then the Ignore option, which also didn't
work,
and finally cancelled the installation.

I wondered, maybe it's in conflict with the existing copy of Ipodder that's
already on my computer? So, just to be on the safe side, I went to the
>Ipodder uninstall option on my Start/Programs menu and uninstalled the old
>copy. Then I
attempted to run the installation of the new V. 2.0.3 again.

Same thing happened. It couldn't write one file, I clicked on Ignore (why
would it be offered, this Ignore option, if it didn't help?) and tried to
proceed, but then it couldn't write the *next* file. Well, I don't know
what any of this means, but I figured I'd better just cancel and come here
to ask if anyone understands what's happening to me, and what I might do to
rectify it, get Ipodder set up again, and begin to learn how to use it.

Thanks, all. Please let me emphasize that I am *not* any longer trying to
install the update version, but only to reinstall the original version 2.0,
wihich Chris explained that I needn't have updated. So this isn't a
question about whether or not to update, or about how to use the program.
I'm not there, yet.I'm just rrying to reinstall version 2.0 from the same
installation exec. file with which I originally installed it, although
without this error message the first time.

RE: Audigy Digital Out

2005-05-22 Thread Rick Alfaro
For 5.1 all you need is a mono adapter with a 3.5mm plug on one side and a
female RCA on the other. Just use the adapter on one end of your spdif
coaxial cable to plug into your Audigy 2zs. Can't help you with 7.1 however
as my speakers are 5.1.

Subject: Audigy Digital Out

Hi
Can someone verify or correct this please?
I recently bought a Creative Audigy 2 Zs card which has a digital out
socket. My intention was to connect it to my 7.1 amplifier (as I had done
previously from my onboard soundcard - coaxial to coaxial) On purchasing
the Audigy I discovvered that the digital out is a 3.5mm jack rather than
the standard coaxial phono.

Questions:

1. What kind of plug should I use (I gather I should get 5.1 stereo out of
this digital out so which plug is the best)

2. Should I just use a normal phono to phono and put a mono converter on one
end to make it 3.5mm - would a stereo converter be better to get the 5.1
stereo?

3. For 7.1 would I be better using 3.5mm jacks to 2 phonos from the analog
outputs or is the coaxial always going to be better?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

RE: Audigy Digital Out

2005-05-22 Thread David Truong
Hi Mate,

Does your amp support optical connections? If so you might want to
purchase a 3.5Inch to Optical cable. You can get them at most good computer
or music shops. You could also try a 3.5Inch plug to rca socket adapter as
well. I don't think it would matter if this adapter was mono or stereo but
I'd go with mono myself. Maybe just get one of each as these adapters are
pretty cheap.

Re: Ticking

Hi Bruce
Thanks for the prompt reply.

It did it on the onboard soundcard and that's why, apart from the reason
that I wanted a better soundcard for 7.1 stereo, Iput in a Sound Blaster
Audigy 2 ZS 7.1 PCI card. I still get the ticking faintly in the
background - there's hardly any difference between the two.

Thanks.

What are you using for a sound card? If it's one of those onboard things,
you might want to try a card. If it's already a card, you might want to
try it in a different slot. Or maybe an external sound card.

Re: converting text to audio

2005-05-22 Thread Jeff Samco
For those wanting to convert text into audio and to have more navigation
points when listening on a Daisy player such as Victor Reader, there is a
program called eClipseWriter. It can take text, allow you to add in
various levels of Daisy headings and generate an audio book that will be
even more functional in a Daisy player. You can also take existing digital
audio files and render them into a Daisy book. You can even mix text and
existing audio files to make a Daisy book with a combination of
synthesized voice for the text and the original digital audio. Of course,
it is more expensive than Text Aloud but gives more functionality that some
may want. I think you can find a demo through

2005-05-22 Thread Yardbird
Chris,
Please see the message I posted *before* I sent this postscript. It ought
to be below the message to which you've responded here. it is very
explanatory. Please read it. thanks.
as I explained, I was unable to install the update. No, the version I
already had on my computer was not running at the time.

However, as I said, I did uninstall V. 2.0, and when I later decided to do
just as you suggest and tried to reinstall it from its installation file,
this time the install failed. I have given all the details about this in my
message.

This is all I was asking about. Why the installation is filing. Again,
please see the details in my main message about this issue. It's all there.
I wasn't asking (yet) for guidance in using it. I'm determined to read a
set of instructions I downloaded from somewhere, before asking any questions
abut using the program. My problem here is just that I can't reinstall
version 2, any more than I could install the update.

thank you for alerting me to the update taking away some accessibility.

Well, I didn't know what that implied or signified, so I tried out the Retry
option, which didn't work, then the Ignore option, which also didn't work,
and finally cancelled the installation.

I wondered, maybe it's in conflict with the existing copy of Ipodder that's
already on my computer? So, just to be on the safe side, I went to the
Ipodder icon on my programs menu and uninstalled the old copy. Then I
attempted to run the installation of the new V. 2.0.3 again.

Same thing happened. It couldn't write one file, I clicked on Ignore (why
would it be offered, this Ignore option, if it didn't help?) and tried to
proceed, but then it couldn't write the *next* file. Well, I don't know
what any of this means, but I figured I'd better just cancel and come here
to ask if anyone know what's happening to me, and what I might do to rectify
it, get Ipodder set up again, and begin to learn how to use it.

Thanks, all.

RE: converting text to audio

2005-05-22 Thread Mark Matthews
Ok Andy - the following link should take you directly to the recording of
the show aired on 13th Feb 2002:
http://www.acbradio.org/archives/mainmenu/mm079.m3u

This will provide you with a streaming version all being well, but if you
wish to download, simply change the extension at the end to MP3.

Also note that there is a bit of a blurb at the beginning, so you'll have to
move it on a little to get the goods so to speak. Smile. HTH.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: Ipodder won't install

2005-05-22 Thread Yardbird
P.S. on below:

1. In case my wording confused anyone, I didn't simply delete the icon of
the program on my Start menu. I used the Uninstall function in the Ipodder
submenu.
2. After giving up trying to install newly downloaded Ipodder 2.0.03, I
tried to reinstall plain old version 2.0, which I had effortlessly installed
the first time. But here, too, I was stopped by the same error message as I
describe below, in exactly the same way. So it doesn't seem to involve some
glitch or bug in the programs themselves or their installation procedures
that's at fault. But if it's something on my computer that's resisting or
sabotaging the installation, I have no idea what that might be. As before,
knowledgeable advice will be appreciated.

Having decided to spend some time this Sunday afternoon reading up on how to
subscribe to and download podcasts, I launched the copy of Ipodder 2.0 that
I'd successfully installed a couple of weeks ago.

I was about to explore the interface and its menus and options with Jaws,
when I got a notice that there was an update available that resolved some
pI-Tunes related issue. Well, I don't use I tunes, but, thinking this would
be a harmless and easy procedure, I clicked yes to allow myself to be taken
online to a download site that I think was called EasyNews.

I found the link for downloading Ipodder for Win XP, eventually was
delivered the download after a few minutes' wait in queue, I suppose.

Then I clicked on the executable file in its destination folder to begin the
installation. I assumed it would overwrite and supersede my earlier Ipodder
version with no difficulty,

Immediately upon beginning the actual installation process, I got a dramatic
Windows error tone and the message that some file couldn't be written.
Well, I didn't know what that implied or signified, so I tried out the Retry
option, which didn't work, then the Ignore option, which also didn't work,
and finally cancelled the installation.

I wondered, maybe it's in conflict with the existing copy of Ipodder that's
already on my computer? So, just to be on the safe side, I went to the

attempted to run the installation of the new V. 2.0.3 again.

Same thing happened. It couldn't write one file, I clicked on Ignore (why

it, get Ipodder set up again, and begin to learn how to use it.

Thanks, all.

Hi :))
for me the best bitrate for mp3 is at least 192kbps but if you have some

Audigy Digital Out

2005-05-22 Thread G. McFarlane

Gordon McFarlane
