Re: Converting mp3 to CDA?

2005-12-26 Thread PETE gurney
hello doc,

it was that a friends daughter was having trouble converting mp3 to cda and
writing the cd at the same time due to buffer under run errors.
she has an old slow external cd writer and probably not a very powerful
laptop and we were looking for a method of separating the conversion and
burning processes.

pete.

I must have missed the original thread. Why are you not going right to the
burn process after choosing your tracks for the cd?

 hello gerry,

thanks for that, i had a look and found how to do it.
it's a longer method but at least it works.
encase anyone else has the need for such a work around here are the
steps.

1 open nero and choose audio cd and click new
2 select the mp3 files you want to burn and add them to what is to be
burnt
3 go to the recorder menu and select choose recorder, choose image
recorder
 [virtual recorder] and click ok.
4 choose write cd from the file menu the write screen will appear but
when
you click on write a window will pop up asking you for a file name i just
tried it with some westlife tracks so i called it westlife leave the
image
type on it's default and click on ok or save i've forgotten which it was.
5 when the conversion has finished click on ok and then on discard on the
 window that pops up.
6 go back to the recorder menu, click on choose recorder and set it back
to
 your actual burner.
7 choose close from the file menu [not exit]
8 choose burn image from the file menu, when the window pops up asking
for
the image name select the name of the image you just created, put your
blank cd in the drive and click on the appropriate button to start the
 burn.
9 finally perminently delete the image file as it will be taking up the
same amount of space on the hard drive as it does on a cd.

 pete.

RE: MP3 versus WMA

2005-12-26 Thread Allison and Chip Orange
Absolutely no question on one aspect of your question: the support for the MP3
format is *vastly* better than that for WMA. The entire Ipod line is a great
example of a line of players that *does not* support WMA.

 Hi folks,
what is the consensus on the WMA format for music files? I have
music encoded in 320 bits MP3 and 192 WMA formats and to be honest
the difference in quality is barely noticeable. I suppose after
quality what matters most is the compatibility factor. Have you guys
found there to be equal support for the two formats in hardware media
players such as juke-boxes and mp3 players?

Any other information, personal observation or opinion on the subject
 would be appreciated.

 Thanks,

Re: Making a play list

2005-12-26 Thread Gary Schindler
the simplest way I found to make a playlist is to make a text file with a
word editor and change the extension to an m3u file. you simplly type in
the text file where your MP3 files can be found on your computer, that is
type the path to the folder and file name. put the path to the mp3 one per
line.

Re: Making a play list

2005-12-26 Thread R Q J
The simplest way I have found to make a playlist,
if you have WinAmp, justt go to the list of songs, and select the ones you
want, and encue them in Winamp.
This puts all the necessary imformation in the playlist automatically.
Now you can go to the WinAmp folder, and select WinAmp.m3u, copy it place it
where you want, and then rename it, leaving the m3u extension.
Alternatively, you can just play songs in WinAmp, and it will make a
playlist, which you can do with the same as above.

type the path to the folder and file name. put the path to the mp3 one per

Re: mp3's to hi fi

2005-12-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. The basic idea here is to just use one set of cables to do the job,
the problem is that the computer and the stereo receiver have to be close
enough together to make it work. Actually, an even better solution is to
simply buy a surround sound system for your computer. I have one and the
sound is supurb. this eliminates the need for hooking it up to your stereo
completely, and the sound is a whole lot nicer.

enter.

If it's multiple files in multiple folders, just go to them in windows

Re: Making a play list

2005-12-26 Thread Dana S. Leslie
On the other hand, if I forget about playing the tracks, but just browse on
my hard drive to each one I want to add to a playlist, and click on enqueue
in winamp, they get added to a playlist just fine. I can then save the
playlist, and all is well. Seems to me, that would be the easiest way to
create a playlist, in any case - not requiring one even to play the tracks,
but just to enqueue them.

Musicmatch is just a player. There're plenty of them that can
replace that like Windows Media Player or Realplayer. I am not aware

accessible. Musicmatch has had that problem for years and isn't

Darn. I forgot to mention after all of this that I am converting mp3

whole thing will make more since g.

At 08:57 AM 12/25/2005, you wrote:
Hello everyone, and a merry Christmas.

I am having a problem burning mp3s to an audio cd using Nero 6 Ultra
Edition. The set belongs to the Carpenters Old Fashioned
Christmas album. There may be other similar problems throughout the
compilation, but my problem is noticeable on the first track It Came
upon A Midnight Clear where the end has a hiccup, where the world
gold sounds like go..old, without the dot of course g. I have
removed the silence between tracks, as well as check the item in the
cda settings tab, and still no improvement. I was making this thing
for my dear wife for Christmas, so I was kind of disappointed with
the results. This is my first time to make an audio cd with Nero. I
usually burn data cds.

BTW, the file doesn't have the problem. I even tried the cd on
another player, namely my Victor Reader Classic, thinking that Winamp
might be responsible for the problem. Also tried recording at 16X.
I'm totally out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Larry

Sly,

If you highlight a file of a type Winamp recognizes, click on the Files
menu. Enqueue in Winamp should be the second option down. It should also be
the second option down in the context menu that opens if you right click,
instead.

The simplest way I have found to make a playlist,
if you have WinAmp, justt go to the list of songs, and select the ones you
want, and encue them in Winamp.
This puts all the necessary information in the playlist automatically.
Now you can go to the WinAmp folder, and select WinAmp.m3u, copy it place
 it
where you want, and then rename it, leaving the m3u extension.
Alternatively, you can just play songs in WinAmp, and it will make a
playlist, which you can do with the same as above.

Shoutcast Releases 1.9.5 of cClient and Server in Single Package

2005-12-26 Thread Steve Matzura
They must have just put this one out, as it's dated the 27th and it's
not even the 27th GMT yet!

They've introduced a real minimize button with 1.90, I'm very
interested in what 1.9.5 has added.

They now seem to distribute it as a combined package, very small, easy
to install one component or the other by choosing the custom
installation option if you want your client and server to be on
separate machines.

Too many links to pick from to download it, just go to shoutcast.com
and search for it there, they give you a number of places to find it,
including their own page.

NOTE: for the 5, 10 15 and 20 mhz frequencies you do not need to enter

What I want to know is, what frequencies does WWV broadcast from.
The radio has a scan feature, as well as a keypad to punch in the

Hi all! I spent a little of my Christmas cash and
bought a Logitech USB
headset/mic combo today. When I got it home and plugged it into my USB
port, all went correctly, windows saw everything it needed to see and it's
being recognized. In the instructions, it says to make sure the headset is
your default playback device in windows which, when it's plugged in, it
is. When I unplug it, it goes back to my sound card. While it's plugged in
to the USB port for some reason, certain sounds come through the headset,
and other sounds come through the speakers. for example on a skype call,
the person speaking comes through my speakers, but software speech from
JAWS and other sounds can be heard on my headset. Not only that, but people
tell me that the volume level is very low. I wanted to see if I could
track the problem down, so I went into the windows volume control and made
sure the mic was checked in playback. it wasn't, so I checked it and the
mic level was only at like 19% so I kicked it up to 70% so I could test
it. So when I did that, i made a call to echo 123 on Skype and tested it.
I couldn't hear myself, which obviously means something is wrong, but I'm
not sure what it is. I even made sure that the mic was unmuted in
playbackso i'm not sure what the deal is.

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this, I'd very much appreciate it!

Hi Folks,
I just got the sony 7600GR AM, FM, and shortwave radio for Christmas.
What I want to know is, what frequencies does WWV broadcast from.
The radio has a scan feature, as well as a keypad to punch in the
frequencys. I haven't been able to find WWV on the dial, so if someone
could tell me which frequency they are on, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Winamp Question

2005-12-26 Thread Richard Claypool
might just have to do a fresh install of winamp. That is an older version,
but if you ant that particular version, it can be found on the net.

Subject: Winamp Question

Greetings All! I have winamp 5.08d and jfw 6 on an x p system and some
 how
managed to do something to my settings and winamp only plays one track
 then
stops. It does this when I play a cd or if I click on play all in a
particular folder where I want all files to be played, it only will play
 one
track. I tried the control .v. command and winamp says stop after
 current
track is not activated. I cannot figure this out. Is it a winamp thing
 or
a windows x p problem? Any help is much Appreciated!. Take Care! Sly!
