Re: replay radio 7 question

2006-02-27 Thread Ron or Susan Denis
If you are getting distortion in your recording, it may be your record
volume may be set too high. There is a box to check in settings if you want
replay to try to automatically optimize your volume, or you can go to the
volume control which is likely in your systray and adjust the record volume.
This is only a guess as just don't know enough about your set up to say
anything more definite. RD

At 11:50 AM 2/21/2006, Josh asked:

Where do I go to find out how to rip from cd to mp3? Do I do that with
Nero or a program like that?

Nope, you would use Nero to burn your cd, not rip the audio from
it. When you rip a cd, you convert it to mp3. You can use CDEX,
Easy CD DA Extractor, or if you wanna take a whole lot of time and
like using really slow programs, Winamp can do it. I found that even
the pro addition of Winamp, which claims to rip audio from your cds
as fast as your computer drive would allow, took twice as long as any
 other program.
and my cd rom drive is 52x, so it seems to me it shouldn't take too
long. So get yourself one of those and convert your cds to mp3.
There's your answer on that one.

 Now Josh continues...

Also, I installed the dsp audio stalker in
the plug ins folder of Win Amp, but I can't find it in the plugins in Win
Amp now. So where did it go? I hit ctrl p to bring up the prefferences,
but when I arrow down through the list that comes up, I can't get to the
wave out item. Can you help with this?

The Audiostocker is located in the DSP/effect part of the tree view,
 not in the output section.
So go to dsp/effect in the tree view and you should find it there.

 Hope that helps.

A very strange Soundforge 8 behaviour

2006-02-27 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hello list,
I'm sorry to all who have seen this message before, but i'm seeking help
from as many knowledgeable sources as possible and therefore i post my
question here as well.
I have recently purchased the Sony Sound forge 8.0B application and am
now trying to install it on my Ibm Net vista pc with 2.4 GigaHertz
Pentium 4 processor with 512 meg of ram and on a 120 gig hard drive.
Installing seems to work successfully and when i hit enter on the
Sound Forge icon on my desktop, the registration dialog pops up. I fill
in the necessary fields and finish the wizard and get the thank you for
registering dialog. I hit the OK button and then... nothing i'm
thrown back out on the desk top again. Trying to start SoundForge again
results in the hard disk spinning for a little while then i'm back on
the desktop again. No error messages that i can pick up, no dialog
boxes, no warning sounds just nothing, the program simply refuses to
start. Someone on another list i'm on suggested that i should alt-tab a
couple times and then i would find the correct window, only trouble is
that there's nothing to be found, the program hasen't started at all.
I've uninstalled and re-installed the program many times to no avail. I
even tried redownloading it again but nothing, nada.
What's happening here? What could be the problem? Has anyone experienced
this behaviour or am i alone with this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi. If you use windows xp or 2000, ditch that silly accessible

It is way better, has more features and requires absolutely no

its development.
It even has direct support for Winamp built right in.

hi. If you use windows xp or 2000, ditch that silly accessible
Podcatcher and get yourself a copy of Juice receiver version 2.2
It is way better, has more features and requires absolutely no
scripts or set files of any kind, it was designed with accessibility
in mind thanks to a few people in the blind community helping with
its development.
It even has direct support for Winamp built right in.

Hi Kevin. hey that's certainly admirable. But the bottom line is you
gotta use what works. So try both programs and use whichever one
works better for you. I think at the time accessible podcatcher was
created, iPodder was only at version 1.0 and to be honest, wasn't
very accessible.
Since that time however, significant improvements have been made.
It's like a completely different program now, it's awesome.
Juice is the best free program out there. If you're using xp this is.

Behringer Audio Processor

2006-02-27 Thread Tom
Behringer makes several audio processors. The one you would
probably be interested in is the MDX2600. It is a 2 CHANNEL
COMPRESSOR/LIMITER/EXPANDER and the two channels can be link
together and used in stereo, that is, the channels follow
each other. If the sound in the left channel is louder than
the sound in the right channel, the level of both channels
will be at the same level to prevent an unbalanced sound.

It sells for around a hundred and nine dollars.

Tom

** Original Message **
How hard are these to set up? Do they still have dials on to
adjust to get things right? I thought I heard of something
from behringer that someone used that they said they obtained
from broadcast supply warehouse, but that it was no longer
being sold. I know many solutions would require using 2
units, one for the left and one for the right, which could
get tricky.

hi, Tony. Let me recommend dvd audio extractor. I just recently
bought it, and it works very well. It's the best I've seen out there.
I've used i m 2 dvd audio ripper and also dvd to mp3 audio ripper,
but the dvd extractor is better in my humble oppinion. firstly, it
lets you rip the dvd into either .wav, .ogg, or .mp3 formats.
Secondly, it lets you split the chapters on a dvd into individual
tracks. This would be ideal in your case, having a concert dvd. You
can, of course, also just have it ripped into 1 big file. I believe
the web site you'll want to go to is:

 http://www.plimus.com.

Their ordering process is very straight forward and the site, as far
as I can tell, is pretty accessible. hope this helps. The program
costs about 32 dollars and 50 cents.

All this is true. Life lessons come through lots of trial and error,
and if we are afraid of failure, we'd never dare to try anything new.
So just keep right on livin' and learnin.' Actually, I really kind of
miss those days myself. I started out in the days of DOS, where you
had to learn many commands in order to make the best of your computer
experience. I especially remember the first time I was able to make
my first batch files run successfully. Now batch files are when you
make a file that consists of a series of commands, so that you don't
have to remember so many commands at once. All you did was to type in
one command, and more than one or two were performed, saving you a
lot of effort when doing common tasks. These kinds of discovery made
you feel like a wide eyed child again.

OK, I'll stop babbling. Just keep on learning, and asking questions,
and I'm sure we'll all be glad to help.

option, under there you will find an option for playing audio cd. Press
enter on that option, and your audio cd should start to play. If Winamp
doesn't play the tracks in order, return to options in the above
mention winamp menu, and look for shuffle. if the option is checked,
uncheck it. If you want Winamp to shuffle the tracks, leave it alone.

Check the file extention. Somebody is thinking that that is as
easy as
  that;
when you highlight the tracks, copy it then paste to your hard
drive, that is definitely wrong. If your file extention is .cda,
oh, it's just the shortcut you got. So observe file extentions
before taking
 any action.

Hello friends,
Wonder if anyone has a thought on this? I coppied a few pieces
from a CD
  to
a folder on my c drive. Then I tried to play them. However,
although
  winamp
did open, nothing plays. Here's how I did it. First I highlighted
the
  items
I wanted to pick out from the cd. Next I coppied them to the
clipboard.
  Then
I coppied them to this folder I mentioned before. So they do
appear in the folder, but will not play in win anp. Any ideas?

Wow! That isn't a bad price for such a thing. I think some receivers do have
automatic level control, but it makes FM radio pump real bad. I don't know
if they have ways of controlling how much or whether this is applied, but I
see it possible that people playing with receivers in stores would turn that
on. I have to add that type of stuff on if I want it because I didn't want a
receiver that sounded like the WABC oldies show that has reverb over
everything.

How hard are these to set up? Do they still have dials on to
adjust to get things right? I thought I heard of something
from behringer that someone used that they said they obtained
from broadcast supply warehouse, but that it was no longer
being sold. I know many solutions would require using 2
units, one for the left and one for the right, which could
get tricky.

RE: A very strange Soundforge 8 behaviour

2006-02-27 Thread Jouie
Sorry sir, I have no idea about the windows firewall; I can't do anything
now to help you for that problem. All I can say is, when you accidentally
blocked it, that could the result. If you didn't block it or you can't
remember anything that you did so, maybe your windows firewall blocked it
automatically. But the question is, why other users of that software did not
experience that kind of problem? You ask them if is there really a
registration on first launch. Maybe, but no basis, it is intercepted; for
that program to be corrupted.

 Hello list,
I'm sorry to all who have seen this message before, but i'm seeking
help from as many knowledgeable sources as possible and therefore i
post my question here as well.
I have recently purchased the Sony Sound forge 8.0B application and
am now trying to install it on my Ibm Net vista pc with 2.4 GigaHertz
Pentium 4 processor with 512 meg of ram and on a 120 gig hard drive.
Installing seems to work successfully and when i hit enter on the
Sound Forge icon on my desktop, the registration dialog pops up. I
fill in the necessary fields and finish the wizard and get the thank
you for registering dialog. I hit the OK button and then...
nothing i'm thrown back out on the desk top again. Trying to start
SoundForge again results in the hard disk spinning for a little while
then i'm back on the desktop again. No error messages that i can pick
up, no dialog boxes, no warning sounds just nothing, the program
simply refuses to start. Someone on another list i'm on suggested
that i should alt-tab a couple times and then i would find the
correct window, only trouble is that there's nothing to be found, the
 program
 hasen't started at all.
I've uninstalled and re-installed the program many times to no avail.
I even tried redownloading it again but nothing, nada.
What's happening here? What could be the problem? Has anyone
experienced this behaviour or am i alone with this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I feel a bit of a conflict of interest coming on here, but I think
it would be fairer all around if we tried to focus on listening to and
creating audio on the PC, as opposed to getting into too much detail about
how a particular service is run. In the case of ACB Radio, they do run a
discussion list if you would like to offer them feedback. Thanks as always

Well the archives are not updated as frequently as one would like however
you can get each weeks main menu as a podcast which is simply an mp3 file of

For those of you who sit there and complain about not getting something

Subject: Sound Forge 8, JAWS 7, and repetitive Speech

I'm just getting truly immersed into JAWS, so please forgive my incredibly
 inept question.

I'm using Sound Forge 8 with JAWS 7, as the subject line indicates. When
 I
save a file in Sound Forge, JAWS repeatedly speaks the name of the file
 and
gives the percentage saved. I've turned off the progress announcements
 for
this particular application. Not only do I hear the progress bar, I hear
 it
in the most annoying way. It begins by saying s s s s s several times,
 then
sa sa sa sa sa sa then it adds the v and so on. I've no doubt that there
are scores of you who are using JFW 7 with Sound Forge 8. I suspect
 you've
all long ago solved this, and again I ask your forgiveness in advance for
such a truly off the wall question.

Is there some kind of view I need to change in Sound Forge to end the
repetitive speaking of the progress bar? I'd love to get a percentage
 every
few seconds, but I doubt seriously turning on the progress bar would
 change
the fact that the screen reader just continues to add letters and numbers
until it speaks the entire progress bar.

It seems to behave that way whether I'm using the PC cursor or the JAWS
cursor. I've no doubt this is a simple fix--probably embarrassingly
 simple.
So please, by all means, embarrass me with the right answer. smile

 Kindest Regards,

 Nolan Crabb

Re: Behringer Audio Processor

2006-02-27 Thread Chuck Adkins
The mixer I have is a Behringer mx2200. All the adjustments have click
stop knobs and it's wonderful. Don't know if it's still being made though.
I've had good luck and heard many good things about Behringer processors so
I don't think you'd go wrong. Don't know about the Behringer DJ mixers. I'm
old enough to still enjoy doing live music mixes with a mixer and not used
to mixing mp3's with play because I feel like I should be cueing something
or pushing a button, doing my own fades. Like mixing commercials. When
fading down music under a voice, I just haven't heard anything that beats a
mechanical fade with a pot. You can make it work of course, I've done it a
thousand times, but just doesn't sound the same.

But I am very old old school. The feel of cueing a record and the sound of a
kart hitting the control-room floor are long gone.

Could we can this thread please? I'm in hot water already
I'm sure if I need info that would be available in a not-available main menu
archive, I can probably use Google or something like that.
Of all the blindisms I hate, it's this tendancy to beat a dead horse, as it
were, about issues that may come up!!

Seek slider control in windows media player

2006-02-27 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello to the list.
I don't know why it took me so long to find this, but if you tab around in
Windows media player you will eventually come across a seek slider control
which allows you to advance forward in the file.
All four arrow keys seem to have an effect, but I wonder if there is a way
to set just how much time each press of the right arrow key advances
forward?
It seems to be a pretty good chunk, with no way to advance in smaller
increments.
I've looked at all of the help files, so i could be missing something.

Thanks for any enlightenment on this feature.

Hi,

it seems to vary with the length of the file but I am assuming its several
percent at a time. I haven't been able to find any way to change it either.
