It must work. But the message you have got tells you that the connection to
the station is not in order. It happens often, don't worry. Try the same
later. From time to time I get the same message from the stations I listen

Sometimes it seems to be difficult to install Flash. Some web pages won't
even acknowledge that I have the latest Flash and keep trying to get me to
download it again. So, I try to do that and nothing happens. I hardly use
Flash so I haven't taken this up with Macromedia. However, it might be a
good idea to talk to them since accessibility of Flash on some pages is not

their Flash accessible but I also think Macromedia could do more to help
make sure web pages that use Flash work better with screen readers.

If you are using jfw why not just go into configuration options and under
HTML go to the advanced tab and choose ignore flash on websites. It won't
solve your problem with the player but you should be able to read the

Re: .Ogg or MP3?

2006-11-26 Thread Brandon Hicks
Hi Chris,

I've found that, if you're playing files on your PC and you have a
player capable of OGG, e.g. Winamp or foobar2000, I'd go with them. You
can get better quality than MP3 at lower bitrates, which saves on hard
drive space, especially if you have a smaller drive or a large music
collection.

Transcoding, is apparently a bad idea. I personally have done tests and
I don't hear a difference, but I could be one of the few. It's probably
a good idea to test it out and see if you can hear a difference, by
ripping the songs in MP3, converting to a particular quality of OGG then
ripping the songs directly to OGG and see if you can hear a difference,
then decide from there.

Subject: Fwd: New games available on the Audio Network

From: The Audio Network [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Dear all,

This is an audio network store update, with details on a brand new
trivia CD Rom, updates on the store maintenance, and details on
posting dates for Christmas, as well as a gift wrapping service.

 http://www.pressakey.net/catalogwww.pressakey.net/catalog

New Game on the Audio Network

Today we launched a brand new CD Rom - it's a trivia based double
bill called Beat The Clock The Maze.

Beat the Clock is a brand new audio trivia game, testing your trivia
knowledge, and your ability to keep cool under pressure!

The game shoots off trivia questions randomly selected from a bank
of over 700 questions, and keeps on shooting them at you until the
time runs out, or until you get the required amount of correct
answers in a row. You start off needing to answer three questions
correctly in two minutes, and the tasks get tougher through all nine
rounds, round nine requires you to complete five correct answers in
 just sixty seconds!

The game uses real audio and macromedia's flash player to deliver a
 fun trivia challenge.

 ~

The Maze is one of the classic all time favorites of Audio Network
 players!

Left, right, or centre, which will you choose? Avoid the trap doors,
find the transporters, answer the questions - it's all so confusing!

Oh, by the way, did we mention? This is a random game too, and doors
you pass through may not necessarily lead the same place next time!

Ten levels to escape from, be warned - this game is addictive!

The game is priced at $20 plus $2.50 shipping and handling - an
 extremely reasonable price!

 Updates on Store Maintenance

the online store has been experiencing difficulties recently, which
was down to something technical called Bill messed up, smiles! But
it is all better now, and ordering has never been easier! You can
order without an account if you wish (although every order you place
you will have to put in your details, but I know some of you prefer
that to having info stored electronically), and you can also pay
either by check/money order, or by using your paypal account, or by
using your credit card through paypal's secure pages.

If you choose to order by cheque, your order will not be shipped
 until the cheque is received.

 Posting Dates For Christmas

The last posting date according to the US Postal Service for
international packages is December 12th. That is the last posting
date to get any purchases for Christmas. In case of any delays, I
really urge you to buy any christmas presents as soon as possible.

 Gift Wrapping Service

Yes, that's right, order from the Online Store, and we'll giftwrap
the present for you as well - for free! Just make sure you request
 the service whilst checking out.

Thank you for choosing the Audio Network, and helping to support the
online site through your purchase. I'd like to wish all of you a
wonderfully happy Christmas, and a happy New Year!

All the best from our family to yours,

 Bill Teale and Janet Dixon,

Hi,

To make GS the default, you need to go into one of the menus in GS. It's
the options box, and there's a tab called File types or Associations.
Check all the boxes in there.

Sorry I can't be more specific, I ditched my pac mate in May, but It's

Locating and securing a Windows Media Server or service host

2006-11-26 Thread JardataMailServicesBox
Hello List!

Recently, I listened to an internet radio station out of Georgia called
Shallohsplace located at http://shallohsplace.net, with a direct streaming url
of http://cobra.mediacast1.com/shallohsplace.

My question is what is this cobra.mediacast1.com. It appears to be some kind
of player on the web site or it may be hosted by someone. The reason I ask is
that I am looking for a windows media server hosting site or a windows media
encoder. I like the way this one sounds. It doesn't look like a hosted site,
rather a dsl company's program.

If anyone knows of a lost-cost windows media server hosting site, which is as
easy to use as Ultrahost's Shoutcast server, do let me know, as I want to also
run a windows media stream on my station.

Thanks for your help and information.

 Hi,

You don't have to click the bar .. well, you might have to. the vidoeo
isn't something you have to worry about. click on the download link, and
wait awhile, it should then come up with a question asking if you want to
 install flash.

Now, the bar at the top of the screen is a standard windows xp thingy
 asking
if you want to install said program.

I didn't have that bar popup, but tht might be because I told xp to trust
 macro media inc.

You can use your jaws curcor, and look from the top of the screen.

I'd just wait and see what happens.

Again, the movie is no big deal as it's just soemthing I never worried
 about.

 Hope this helps,

Problem with Golden Ear and Blind Cool Tech Podcast

2006-11-26 Thread Steve Pattison
I use Golden Ear available from http://brooklynnorth.com to listen to
podcasts. Lately I've had a problem with the Blindcooltech
podcast. When I list the podcasts available on the Blindcooltech
home page using Golden Ear only 40 podcasts are listed. However when
I go to the Blindcooltech home page at www.blindcooltech.com there
are a lot more than 40 files available to download. The podcast feed
I'm using for blindcooltech is
http://www.blindcooltech.com/bct.xml. I've uninstalled Golden Ear
and then installed it again but this didn't fix this problem. If
anyone has a solution to this problem any information would be
appreciated. thanks in advance.

Thanks for pointing out Reciva. I had never heard of it -- say nothing
 of
 using it.
I've played around with it for the last 10 minutes or so, and I do like
 it
AND have added it to my bookmarks.
The one thing that should be mentioned is that some users may find Reciva
to be a bit more complicated to use than some others.
It's well worth it from what I can tell.

Once again, Michael, thanks for directing usto a less well known
 resource.

GSPlayer and the Pacmate.

2006-11-26 Thread Carliss Smith
Listers,

Thanks for your help. I did get the GSPlayer to be the default player.

However, when I am on the net and trying to stream, a file is needed to be
down loaded, but when it's down loaded nothing happens, even though the
pacmate jaws says that the file will be opened after its down loaded. Is
there a fix for this? When I use windows media player, it just plays or
should I say, it just streams, but it doesn't have what the GSPlayer has as
you know.

The other thing is, I have been trying to get the GSPlayer to play a list of
MP3s instead of just one . in other words, I've been trying to create a
playlist.

Well, I must say, I've gotten further this time in using the GSPlayer then
ever.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Windows Media Streaming

2006-11-26 Thread JardataMailServicesBox
Hello List!

I'm looking for a windows media streaming service at an affordible price,
between $30-$50 monthly, for forty to fifty listeners, streaming in stereo at
56k--128k. I have a Shoutcast service and want a windows media service to go
along with it. This is a hobby, so I don't want to go overboard, but yet have
a great sounding station. Also, I want a service that allows me to play
whatever kind of music or show that I want. I found a service called
Churchquest that offers a windows media streaming service at $8.95 monthly, but
it is a Christian service that does not allow secular music and has no phone
support. My Shoutcast server host is great, but I want to offer my listeners a
Windows Media Stream as well.

Note: this service can be in the U. S., Canada, England, or Australia/New
Zeland; that is if their price is right.

If you are using jfw why not just go into configuration options and under
HTML go to the advanced tab and choose ignore flash on websites. It
 won't
solve your problem with the player but you should be able to read the
Panasonic site. That's assuming of course you are using jaws.

 Subject: Macromedia Flash

Hi all. I posed this question to the PC Audio list over two weeks ago,
 but
got no response. This concerns Macromedia Flash. This should be a pc
 audio
related issue, because there is some audio related to flash content; but
 if
it's not related to pc audio, please let me know: I had the flash player
installed with this computer, I believe; and subsequently, I came across
 a
program that I'm trying to use, and the instructions said that I may have
 to
uninstall the flash player; so I did that, thinking that it might solve
 that
problem; but actually, it didn't. Now, I came across a website which I
 was
able to traverse with no problem, the Panasonic.com website; but now, I
can't do that because they use flash content. I tried to download and
reinstall the flash player by going to macromedia.com, but the website
 won't
let me do that there. I read on their site that flash is installed with
Windows XP, but is there another way I can get that back, without having
 to
 reinstall Windows. I
think that would be a drastic step. Someone told me that maybe something
got put into the registry that won't let me do that. Help! Please!
 Then
maybe I won't be so cranky. Anyway, thanks for any help you can give me,
 regardless!
