Recording my screen reader
Hi all, I would like to be able to record what my screen reader, Window-Eyes is reading on screen through my computer sound card. On my computer, I now have XP Home, WinAmp, and WMP. After recording, I would like to be able to have access to standard playback controls such as rewind, fast forward and pause. Can anyone give me some ideas on what program would do best for me, and steps on how to do this. Hi bruce and all As I stated on another list, I must also agree with you. I don't think the two devices are really in composition. They are meant for two slightly different segments of the market. The iPod Nano looks like it comes in a 8GB and a 16GB capacity at the moment. Remember, it's the iPod Nano 4th Generation that has the talking menus feature. It looks like the iPod Classic has a 120GB version at the moment, but I don't think it's accessible. I got the above information from the URL http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353. You can get older iPods with larger capacities that work with Rockbox. You can check out rockbox.org for a list of supported MP3 players. Larry wrote: Hey Terese. RE: Digitizing Tape without Hearing Sound
I suspect you are using Windows xp or earlier. Go into the properties of your sound card and choose play. In that dialog, you may find options to check or uncheck what channels play. Make sure line in is unchecked. Also, in the recording properties, make sure line in is checked, not anything called What you Hear or Mixer. I often digitize tapes using Goldwave, in both Xp and Vista, and never hear the tape playing, so the problem can be solved. Re: program for correcting jitter errors
CDex can also do this. 1. Open the settings window with the f4 key. 2. Switche to the "CD Drive" tab. 3. Shift+Tab to the "Ripping Method" combo box. 4. Switch to one of the Paranoia modes. Personally, I use "Paranoia, Full" whenever I encounter an error. 5. Tab to the "OK" button, and activate it. 6. Select the track(s) you want to correct, and rip thiem. You can select with standard selection commands. NOTE: Don't forget to put the "Ripping Method" back to "Standard" when done. When Paranoia is on, the rips are slower. Re: Setting Recording Levels in Vista
Hi Mari, 1. You can open the Sound dialog by opening the start menu and typing sound. The first match will probably be sound recorder, but you can just arrow down one to sound, and then press enter. 2. Press ctrl+tab to move to the recording page, where there's a list of devices. Select a device, and press spacebar ( or choose properties from its context menu). 3. A properties dialog for that device opens. Move to the levels page of this dialog, and there'll be a slider where you can set the recording level. Then just press the ok button, and you're returned to the sound dialog. Other stuff you can do on the recording page of the sound dialog from the context menu of a selected device: 1. set disabled and disconnected devices to be shown in the list. 2. set the selected device as default. 3. enable the device if it's disabled. David. original message: Hello, This is the third time I've sent this, and I don't think it's getting through. It may be my inexperience with Vista. RE: mp3 direct cut
There is a little plugin for goldwave that allows one to cut and paste with mp3's. The only reason I know is that I tried to do it once when I didn't have the plugin and this message came on telling me that I couldn't, but offered me the download. So I don't know where I got it, but GW should have it somewhere. Ask their tech support folks. It beats decompressing and recompressing. Re: JAWS9 and Winamp queries
Hey Jeff, I'm still talking about doing a show on the ACB Radio Interactive. Collecting stuff on MP3 aqnd making sure it is tagged properly. I am also considering whethere to use a program called Station Playlist instead of Winamp. This program is much more than a player, it allows automatic sheduling of program playlists, and much more, which is of more use to someone running a 24 - 7 station. One thing it can do is play 'carts' on the touch of a key, at anytime during the broadcast. I like that idea. However for you and I who only are looking at programs of a couple of hours or so, Winamp can do the job. As for Winamp crashing. That is something that happens from time to time. and different versions seem to make a diffrrerence to different computers. Perhaps you need to go back to an earlier version. I recently found it crashing a lot, so re--installed, and fingers crossed, its not happening as much. Re: mp3 players best for totally blind people
Remember that the iPod's are an Apple product and will primarily play MP3, WAV and Apple formats. From the technical specifications at http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html: Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV With the Zen Stone however, you'll still get MP3, but you'll get Microsoft's proprietary audio format (WMA) instead of Apple's. You also don't get the lossless formats such as WAV. From the Zen Stone user's guide: Audio Playback Formats: Audible Format 2 and 3, MP3 (Up to 320 kbps), WMA (Up to 320 kbps) and WMA with Windows Media Digital Rights Management (WMDRM) 9 In looking at the FAQ for the Victor Stream it looks like it supports MP3, WAV and some open source formats, so it won't play proprietary formats from Apple or Microsoft. From the FAQ at http://www.humanware.com/Site/Files/a/06cc20404d351cbaa2520fcd0d5adc3/0dcb5f05f4fe25fb6342124a47382840/Stream%20FAQ.htm: The Stream supported audio formats are MP3, wav, OGG Vorbis, or 3gp (AMR-WB+). Re: mp3 players best for totally blind people
Are there stuff you can't run on Zen Stone that you can with the Ipod Nano? Sincerely, Lauren - Original Message - From: "Christopher Chaltain" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 2:34 PM Subject: Re: mp3 players best for totally blind people As others have said the Zen Stone is an off the shelf portable media player that, since it doesn't have a display is totally accessible. I use this myself, especially for proprietary and protected formats, such as Audible, Overdrive and DRM. Rockbox is a firmware replacement for portable media players that has an eyes free mode which makes it accessible. It's a little more work getting it up and running, and the newer players aren't supported, but once you get it working, you'll have talking menus, talking files and folders and potentially access to more storage than you'll get on the Zen Stone. You can find out the supported players and get more information from rockbox.org. I use this myself on two media players including one with a 30G hard drive. A nice thing about the Zen Stone and Rockbox is that you won't have to use any particular software on the PC to copy music over to the player. You can just use Windows Explorer since the players will just show up as USB attached drives on your system. The iPod Shuffle is similar to the Zen Stone since because it doesn't have a display, it's accessible. The iPod Nano 4th generation is also accessible and is similar in how it works to Rockbox. Getting the Nano talking is probably easier than installing Rockbox and getting it talking, but that's assuming you're going to use iTunes 8 to manage your music. I've played with the iPod's and followed developments regarding their accessibility, but I don't have one myself. Finally, I should also say that I do listen to music and books on my Nokia N75 cell phone running Talks. Marco Steinebach - Mardy wrote: Hi Lauren, if you talking about a hardware MP3 player I can suggest the "creative zen stone 2 GB" model. It comes without a display, has a little speaker and plays mp3 and wma files. You can have several folders and load your music onto the player just as to a normal USB-Stick. The price, in germany, is around 25,00 Euro. I've got this one and I'm very satisfied with it! Re: mp3 players best for totally blind people
Can this product play all the stuff you can on an Ipod Nano or Zen Stone? Sincerely, Lauren - Original Message - From: "Don Ball" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 11:04 PM Subject: Re: mp3 players best for totally blind people The victor reader stream is the most accessible player and I am not being smart. If you just want to play music one file after another any cheap mp3 player will do. but for total access to what you are playing the stream is the player of choice. I even excuse the $300 price tag. for the access you get that is a bargain.- Original Message - From: Lauren To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 11:37 AM Subject: mp3 players best for totally blind people Hi, Can you please suggest a MP3 player or Ipod that is best for a totally blind person to operate? Thanks. JAWS9 and Winamp queries
I host two shows per week on worldwidebluegrass.com from Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. Till recently I used JAWS7 and Winamp5.23 but have now upgraded to JAWS9.0; I find Winamp collapses quite easily; do the later Winamp versions have this problem? Are there stability and other user friendly advantages which I may find helpful in effectively running and cueing up my play list? Looking forward to catching up with other vision impaired d.j.s about this please? Geoff Morris WALL-TO-WALL BLUEGRASS worldwidebluegrass.com Monday nights from eleven Friday mornings from six E. S. Re: program for correcting jitter errors
There's another program called Exact Audio Copy, I think. This is said to rip Cds very accurately. Suggest you do a Google for this program. Ray. Re: Setting Recording Levels in Vista
ope you get an answer to this question Mary - and by the way, your messages are getting through. I recall lengthy threads on this subject some time ago, and it all seems to hinge around the fact that the settings for enabling recording in Vista's Control Panel application are hidden until you know the process to go through to unhide them. So, this is what we want from anyone who knows about this. I don't use Vista but should I encounter a machine running it then I would like to know how to get at these hidden controls. Sorry can't be of more help. Ray. Mari Dole wrote: Hello, This is the third time I've sent this, and I don't think it's getting through. It may be my inexperience with Vista. Anyway, I would be very grateful if any other Vista users could tell me how to set recording levels. Also, are there any shortcuts to reach the record tab? Thank you very much for your help.
