Does anyone have an older version of ITunes? They worked so well. I am having a lot of difficulty getting my IPod Nano to talk again after accidentally restoring the defaults. Well Jim, my only comment is I'm glad I've resisted ITunes thus far. Not the place to say it I guess, but I've heard ITunes can be far too smart for mine or anyone elses good. I had an issue with one of the more pretentious Apple Mac Oh what a superior Guy I am sort, who laughed that my efforts in Sound Forge didn't register the correct running time in ITunes. A Mac expert told me this is an issue with ITunes more than because I happen to be using Windows. With DRM out of the way now I'm still stuck on seeing just what the point of ITunes is these days,. Still, what would I know, not frequenting the ITunes store. Surely to God no one's using it with their Stream! Or are they? There used to be a device the size of one rack space whose name I forget which was ideal for this very purpose. My interest in these recorders is as a relatively affordable portable recorder for blind people doing audio journalism-type recordings for talking newspapers and audio magazines. There is sufficient voice guidance now to make this a far more reliable and practical job than with much less accessible recorders. the Plextor may come into it's own where a bit more dynamic range is needed and some music of limited dynamic range could be recorded too with it. That leaves us with recorders of the calibre of the Sony PMCD50 - hope I've got it's model number right - for live music and high quality sound gathering. While it's not really accessible we're told by Neal Ewers it is usable. that would seem to me to be the main choices open to us just now. Others could add in the Edirol R09h and the new Zoom recorder and there are podcasts kicking about covering these too. Let's hope someone reviews the Olympus DM series soon. Ray Tim Noonan wrote: Going from the functionality in the Olympus DS71, which has adjustable recording levels, there are either 10, but probably 15 recording volume settings, accessed by pressing the left and right arrows while in record pause or record. In addition, there are still the three microphone sensitivity settings on the side of the machine. The volume limiter (anti clipping facility is disabled when recording is set to manual volume levels. I haven't tested extensively, but while I think the voice capture of the DS-71 is extraordinarily good, for full spectrum recording, there is a lot more background hiss during silent passages and it seems somewhat limited frequency response, than one would expect for a wave recorder. I deduce from the promotional material, that the DM-550 will be a reasonable step up in actual recording quality, above and beyond the quality of the DS-71. That all said, for recording meetings and small conferences, the clarity of voice recordings and memos is second to none on the DS71, and its fantastic form-factor, in-built speaker and battery life. I'm not convinced the DM-550's recording quality will equal the Plextalk Pocket, and am certain it will be nowhere near the Zoom and Edirol units. You could connect any kind of recorder, (either digital or tape) to the headphone jack on your amp. Use this method if you like the sound from the headphone jack on the amp. Just be sure to use the line or aux input on the recorder. You could use the microphone input if no line input was available but would have to be sure the output level of the amp was very low in that case and you would risk extra noise and distortion. Re: Creating A Podcast: Use Sound Forge 7 or Gold Wave?
If you're happy with what you're using then by all means use it, both programmes are very good however, my personal preference these days out of the two is Goldwave, its got a very feature rich command set, manual is extremely detailed, accessible and well laid out and so on. The author has gone to quite a bit of trouble to make this software accessible and it detects if a Screen Reading package is running, an excellent value for money product and I think its still under $50.00, a steal. Re: Creating A Podcast: Use Sound Forge 7 or Gold Wave?
Hi Michael. Personally I use Goldwave, but SF is perhaps the more professional and flexible program. I really don't think it matters too much which you use, unless you intend to do some really fancy recording stuff. If all you are talking about is recording the pure sound of trains, then it's a matter of which recorder, rather than which Digital Editor you choose. Loads of us love the sounds of steam trains, passengers and day trips by train. I have an Olympus DS50 and a pair of BSM Binaural microphones and the sound quality is actually very good. Okay, I need to convert my file, which is not MP3 into an MP3 file using goldwave. but apart from that, my Olympus and Goldwave does the job. Finally, there is a lot to be said about keeping things as simple and basic as you can. This, I believe, can be a sign of professionalism. Clarity and simplicity, that's the answer. Very best wishes. Hi Andy, Thanks for your reply. I currently use an Edirol R09 recorder with 2 Shure PG81 unidirectional mics, and I get good results with it. I am hopefully getting a Sony PCMD50 later this year, so that should be fun. What I'm really interested in doing is importing recordings into a file with my narrations inbetween the tracks. Of course the ultimate tool would be one which would record your Podcast, allow you to enter details and publish that on the Net by uploading it to the appropriate Podcast server and so forth, The Mac has such a tool in the form of the Podcast Catcher and I'm sure that similar tools are around for the Windows PC. Hi everyone, My name is Michael and I am 17 years old. I'm totally blind, and I make audio recordings of trains. I am interested in putting a podcast together but I am not too sure how to do it or what software programs to use. I currently have SoundForge 7.0 on my computer, and it does everything I want it to. Well, just about everything. However, I know that GoldWave is popular with people who are blind, and I am wondering which program would be easier for creating a podcast? I am thinking of putting several of my recordings into this podcast, but I'm not sure how to put the files together in eather program. Re: Older version of ITunes
Here is a download link for ITunes 8.1.1. http://download.oldapps.com/iTunes/iTunesSetup811.exe Kristeen Hughes khu...@insightbb.com wrote: Does anyone have an older version of ITunes? They worked so well. I am having a lot of difficulty getting my IPod Nano to talk again after accidentally restoring the defaults. I remember with the first version of ITunes I had, it wasn't that difficult. Thanks to anyone who can help. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of dean martineau Sent: Monday, October 12, 2009 4:38 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: Olympus DS50 Hi. Neil Ewers did a thorough description of the Olympus DS-50 on BlindCoolTech, so it will be much more authoritative than this: The leftmost of those three buttons navigates through the folders. The other two, I think, take you to specific folders, I believe music and perhaps Audible but since I never used them when I had my DS-50, I am only certain about the lefthand button. Subject: Olympus DS50 Hello, Regarding my Olympus DS50, Although I really like the DS50 for voice recordings, I seldom use it and have forgotten the specific uses of the three buttons which appear as a bar below the screen, the center of which is elevated. I do recall that one sets a bookmark, and the one to the left sets a sort of recall location which causes the DS50 to repeat a designated portion of a file. But, I don't recall the specifics. Can you please refresh my memory? Thanks much. Don Roberts - Original Message - From: Neal Ewers neal.ew...@ravenswood.org To: 'Donald L. I may not do a podcast, but I may have time at some point, to write a list of things one needs to do in order to do this. It really isn't all that difficult once you figure it out, but you do not get much help from the manual. I just had to spend hours in trial and error. So, I'll see if I can make time at some point. If you're on skype, perhaps we can talk this through at a time that works for us. Thanks for your words of thanks. Neal -Original Message- From: Donald L. For some reason, I am having difficulty grasping the concepts in the BWP docs, primarily because the docs try to make a one size fits all approach. I think that recording from existing audio files should not be combined with the instructions pertaining to microphone recording. I would appreciate your thoughts on this subject. Thanks for all of your contributions in the past.
