Gold wave and clipping
Hi Has anyone using Jaws found a way to find out the recording level while recording? This would be to avoid clipping. Also where do I look to find the highest peak of a file so that I know if it has been clipped once recording. Is it possible to set recording levels without sight to avoid clipping? To find the highest peak go to the volume submenu under the effects menu and choose maximize. You can then use your jaws cursor to find the place in the file with the highest peak. You will see the peak value as well as the time in the file where the peak occurs. On Wed, 14 Sep 2011 09:07:40 +0100, G. Finding the extraction tool in windows 7
Hi to everyone. I have just aquired a new laptop, my first. Now this laptop is windows 7 whereas my PC is XP. I download loads of meadia stuff and most of it is in either.rar or.zip folders. Does windows 7 have it's own built in extraction and compression tool as does XP. If so, where the hell do I find it as I have no idea where to look. Windows 7 is going to be a very steep learning curve, almost vertical. If anyone can help I would be appreciative, thanks very much. Walter. Re: Finding the extraction tool in windows 7
I don't remember Windows XP having a built in extraction tool for .rar file archives. I'm confused by your question on the .zip archives though. I have to go check myself, but are you saying that the context menu for a .zip archive in Windows 7 doesn't include options to extract the archive? I wouldn't expect this to change much in Windows 7. Hi. Yes, when I got my PC it had the windows extraction tool already installed. However I can't find an option on windows 7 to extract files. In XP I merely highlight the file and go to the context menu (or the file menue) and arrow down until I get the option extract here and once I press enter the job is done. However I find nothing, well lets say, I can't find anything that does a similar job. I know Windows 7 has ribbons and maybe there is something there but I've not played with them yet. Re: Finding the extraction tool in windows 7
Hmm, well I'm not sure what to tell you. If I go into a folder on my Windows 7 system, arrow down to a .zip file then I do see an extract all option in the File pull down and the context menu. For .zip files, no separate extraction tool is installed in Windows XP and beyond. It's included in the OS itself. It's possible you had something like 7-Zip installed on your XP system, so things would look a bit different. I'm not sure I can help, but maybe if you included more details on what you're trying to do on Windows 7, I or someone else could help. What file are you trying to extract, where is it located, how are you getting to it and so on. On 14/09/11 10:30, Walter wrote: Hi. Copying Audio CD's
First, I'm sorry if this message comes across more than once. Is there a way to copy an entire audio CD to another audio CD under Windows 7 without extracting and reassembling tracks? On my old computer, I generally did it with an old version of Roxio, but I believe there was a way to also do it from Windows explorer, but I can't find anything on my new Windows 7 computer. If not, can anyone recommend reliable but inexpensive alternatives? I do have Sound Forge and CD Architect, but don't see anything that will just create an image and copy it to another CD. Thanks for any ideas. Best regards, Steve Jacobson To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Under skype's audio settings make sure that the setting that automatically adjusts the audio of your speakers is set to off. On Wed, 14 Sep 2011 13:18:51 +1000, Dane trethowan wrote: Howdy Folks! I've noted something rather odd when installing and running skype on my Asus EEEPC and HP Notebooks, when I make a call the volume of the Screen Reader voice decreases, I suspect this is because Skype is turning down the volume of the default internal sound device would I be correct in assuming this? So is there any way around this or did users just use a pair of headphones and have Skype use these for sound output or perhaps another sound card. Skype calling
Hi I hope this is OK on this list. I am using Skype 3.5 and Jaws 10, although the Jaws 10 may not be relevant. I have all the scrips for Jaws. I have the keyboard shortcuts turned on. The problem is that I can not make a call. If I try to call someone, it will ring once and then disconnect. The strange thing is that it calls the test call correctly. Does anyone know what I might need to change to fix this, or is it on the Skype end. Thanks for any help you can give me. Re: Sound cards for HP notebook computers
The Devil Sound device is simply playback, has a usb connector on one end and two rya jacks on the other end. Just to correct someone who commented earlier it is $350, says so right on the devilsound.com site. Not sure about the others mentioned some of which I'm sure have recording capabilities as well. On Sep 14, 2011, at 4:50 PM, Howard Traxler wrote: On these USB sound devices, Can one record with either a stereo mic or two separate mics--of course, with appropriate adapter/splitter? It seems link my newest notebook and my netbook won't record in stereo at mic level. They have only one input jack to the sound card. Maybe it's switchable between mic and line level input? I don't think I've seen a card slot in a notebook computer in years. They used to have PCMCIA slots, which I think were rebranded to PC Card slots at some point, but usually I think you just see card readers and USB ports on notebook computers now a days. PCI Express slots are usually available in PC towers, but unless there's some mini version of PCI Express, I cn't imagine you'd have access to anything like that in a notebook. I think your best option will turn out to be a USB sound card. If you're worried about the availability of USB ports, you can get a powered hub or even a docking station. Anyway, I'm looking for a second sound device for my new machine so does anyone have any recommendations? could use a Imic but I really want to keep USB ports free if I can for other devices though I need not worry too much given the fact that I have 4 USB ports on the machine.
