Re: Another question about the Olympus DM5
Hi again, I was going to try and fix it again, but I manage to lose my cable for this device, does anyone know what cable do I need to look for on eBay? I bought a mini usb but it isn't the one. Just need a name. Thanks, Alex. On 29/11/2014 22:36, Alex wrote: Hi all, As we are talking about this recorder, I have a dmdm-670 model. My disappointment was compounded when I compared it with my mobile phone player which is superior to the DM5 in sound quality. The DM5 spoken menus are inadequate. It tells you the track name but you get very little info of how many tracks you have on the player. For example if I decide to play music by selecting artist then it doesn't give me the number of tracks in any particular artists folder and also when I arrow up and down the list, the reaction time is very slow and that is with speeding up the voice guidance. I'm inclined to just use my mobile for music listening unless I can get a better player that will give me very high quality sound reproduction. Oh, nearly forgot, I have to increase the volume to nearly full to get a good level of volume, it seems the DM5 output signal is a low one. It would seem to me that the player is truly meant as a portable recorder and the music player function is an afterthought. This player has never really been used, I'm just getting to grips with it. Yes, received them about 15 minutes ago and have given them a quick listen using my Yamaha RXV-520 Receiver. Sound is very nice though I can appreciate I think a comment a fello list member made when he said he thought these cans were "In Your Face", certainly the mid range stands out but the bass is there along with a crisp and distinct top end. If you like bass heavy cans then these aren't the one's for you but if you like to hear music the way it was recorded - meaning you like hearing an honest reproduction of the recording - then these cans do a surprisingly good job for the price - wouldn't expect otherwise really given that the Grado Labs SR60I cans won the Stereophile Magazine Award -. The cans are of a nice feel and good construction, they're an open ear type so you can hear what's going on around you. The lead is 15 feet long and of an excellent heavy duty quality, this is something you don't see on cans at this price often, one end is the thick easy to grasp plug whilst the other end is a "Y" shape where the cable separates into two slightly thinner cables, one for each can. The phones themselves are cusioned with nice thick comfy foam, again thicker than you commonly find usually for on the ear type cans. Both phones swivil, I'm not sure what the idea of this is but they do regardless of the idea. These cans are really meant for a good hi-fi setup, you may find a headphone amp is required if using these cans with a MP3 player, iPhone etc. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954

I installed the latest version of Winamp Pro, version 6.22, which is the same one I'm using on my system. I can't seem to use the control tab to go from the library to the main window and back again, among other problems. What I'd like to know is are there still scripts for Winamp to make it more accessible with JAWS? If so, how can I get them and how do I install them? Or, are they already built in? I know that JAWS does come with some scripts already set up by FS. But if the Winamp scripts are built in, how do I make them run. They don't seem to be running now, or at least not very well. I have Jaws 12 installed, and I need to know if there is a version of WinAmp which works best with my set-up. I did have the current version installed, and I struggled with it., in terms of trying to get Jaws to read some things and trying to find things. But, if you have this problem, you should simply edit jfw.ini, to force JAWS to use the output device you wish it to, regardless of which device has the default output device assignment. Do you know how to do this? And, no, the Soundblaster Live 24bit external doesn't continually try to steal the default device assignment, just the logitech headset does that. - Original Message - From: "Peter Alan Smith" To: "'PC Audio Discussion List'" Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2009 4:44 PM Subject: RE: iMic Hi Donna, that is exactly what I want to do as well. My entire cd collection is now in my external hard drive. But the tapes contain loads of tunes from back in the day. Some quite hard to find. Then there's the vinyl! I used a thing called an inport by xitel but it kept knocking jaws out. Your SB device didn't do that? That's a good additional feature, but I will just turn on the external player and hit record on Goldwave. My only worry then will be that the sound levels are okay. If you are talking headset to RCA, I know about that, but, I feel there is a los of quality, like a headphone jack, just doesn't put out the sound that an RCA device does, and the conversion? It just doesn't sound that good. On 10/23/08, constantine (on laptop) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi > > You can buy a stario that will do it. Re: Magic Jack experiences
I Liked it! Its much cheaper than the alternatives, and it is easy enough to use with Jaws 8.0. Overall its a really good product for the price and has decent sound quality if using a regular phone (I have not tried it with my mic and PC speakers). One thing that does bother me is the 3way calling. The only way u can 3way is if you ask the 3rd person to call you. Another thing, its a bandwidth hog. I have to shut things such as downloads down before I can use it. On 10/8/08, Roger R. RE: CDEX file conversion questions
Hi, It doesn't matter whether you rip CD tracks into .wav first, and then compress the tracks afterwards, or if you do it as the CD tracks are being ripped. When you choose to rip tracks to a compressed file, it first converts the track to a .wav file, converts it, then deletes the file. As for reducing the bitrate of an already existing MP3 file, it doesn't matter if you convert it to wav first or not, because when you convert a file to wav, it does not improve or reduce the quality of audio. So there would be no difference in the mp3 files. " Sent: Saturday, October 07, 2006 9:19 PM Subject: CDEX file conversion questions My wording is a bit tedious, but here it goes. Using CDEX, if I rip a CD track to .wav and then later decide to convert this wav file to an mp3, is the quality result the same as ripping the track to mp3 in the first place. One more question, I understand if I have the original wav file, converting to the desired mp3 bit rate on the first go round gives the best results. However, if I have an already existing mp3 file that needs to be further reduced, is it best to go ahead and compress the file as is, or first convert to wav, then compress? Thank you very much. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com.
