Re: Another question about the Olympus DM5

2014-12-18 Thread Alex

Hi again,

I was going to try and fix it again, but I manage to lose my cable for
this device, does anyone know what cable do I need to look for on eBay?
I bought a mini usb but it isn't the one.

Just need a name.

Thanks,

Alex.

Yes, received them about 15 minutes ago and have given them a quick listen
using my Yamaha RXV-520 Receiver.

Sound is very nice though I can appreciate I think a comment a fello list
member made when he said he thought these cans were "In Your Face",
certainly the mid range stands out but the bass is there along with a crisp
and distinct top end.

If you like bass heavy cans then these aren't the one's for you but if you
like to hear music the way it was recorded - meaning you like hearing an
honest reproduction of the recording - then these cans do a surprisingly
good job for the price - wouldn't expect otherwise really given that the
Grado Labs SR60I cans won the Stereophile Magazine Award -.

The cans are of a nice feel and good construction, they're an open ear type
so you can hear what's going on around you.

The lead is 15 feet long and of an excellent heavy duty quality, this is
something you don't see on cans at this price often, one end is the thick
easy to grasp plug whilst the other end is a "Y" shape where the cable
separates into two slightly thinner cables, one for each can.

The phones themselves are cusioned with nice thick comfy foam, again thicker
than you commonly find usually for on the ear type cans.

Both phones swivil, I'm not sure what the idea of this is but they do
regardless of the idea.

These cans are really meant for a good hi-fi setup, you may find a headphone
amp is required if using these cans with a MP3 player, iPhone etc.

Evan, there are winamp scripts built into jaws 13, but you have to use the

Subject: JAWS Scripts for Winamp?

Hey Guys, I'm helping my partner get her Winamp running and accessible. I am
not a JAWS user, (I use Window Eyes and the app that goes with it makes
Winamp run very accessibly for what I do with it), but Winamp doesn't seem
to be so accessible on her Windows 7 JAWS 13 system. I installed the latest
version of Winamp Pro, version 6.22, which is the same one I'm using on my
system. I can't seem to use the control tab to go from the library to the
main window and back again, among other problems. What I'd like to know is
are there still scripts for Winamp to make it more accessible with JAWS? If
so, how can I get them and how do I install them? Or, are they already built
in? I know that JAWS does come with some scripts already set up by FS. But
if the Winamp scripts are built in, how do I make them run. They don't seem
to be running now, or at least not very well.

Thanks for any help.

What are you going to burn to them? Unless you really know how to use
Windows Media player to make CDs', I'd take the path of least resistance,
and choose burn files to disk with Windows Explorer. Then that way it opens
the folder of the CD, and then once you have the file all you have to do is
select burn to disk. Then WMP will open, but since you selected all your
files before, all you must do now, is press the burn button. If it's data,
after you press enter on burn to disk, it'll just do it.

Hello fellow pc-audio list members:
I'm thinking about trying my hand at burning an audio cd from the mp3 files
I have stored on my computer. However, before I do that, I just have a
couple of questions:
1. I've heard, that when you put a cd into your cd/dvd drive, a window pops
up, asking you what you want windows to do, and it gives you four
choices:
a take no action
b open windows explorer folder, (or something like that) and I can't
remember what the other two options are at the moment.
Which of these four options should I select? Thanks.
Mike

P.S.  I'm using windows xp home edition.

Hi guys,

As stated above, I'm wanting to use WinAmp on my Win 7/64 Professional PC.
I have Jaws 12 installed, and I need to know if there is a version of WinAmp
which works best with my set-up. I did have the current version installed,
and I struggled with it., in terms of trying to get Jaws to read some
things and trying to find things. I really want to learn and use it, so any
suggestions as far as documentation, tutorials, scripts, etc. would be most
appreciated.

Thanks,

Yeah, I only asked because if they did work with stereo mikes, this would be
a very interesting way to hook up an Audio-technica AT822, or an ATR6250 to
your PC. I mean, yeah you can use the eighth intch jack, but this way seems
more direct to me. I don't know maybe it's just me. You know what else would
be some what interesting, if yould could have an XLR jack right on the PC it
self. I mean, this way you don't have to bother with a mixer if you don't
want to.

Nolan,

There is a work around for this if you want to do it. First close down
Skype. Navigate to the skype.exe file under your program files folder and
bring up the properties for it. Go under the compatibility tab and check
the compatibility mode box and set the OS to Vista and click ok. Now your
Skype window will close out like you are used to and won't be in the tab
order any longer. I did this with no ill effects that I could notice and
seems to work fine.

hello, if you want an even better blind peoples network. Please go to the
accessable friends network on:

www.tafn.org.uk

I have been a member for 6 months, and it is the best blind chat network I
have come across up to now, and the people are wonderful, and very helpful.

There is also a Cummunicator, which has many rooms where you can chat, and
listen and play music, and much more.

Please go to the website above and have a good look,

Billy

This weeks Innovations is full of amazing "first-timers"... We will be
having an interview with one of the organisers and team members of the
Driving for the Blind project at Virginia Tech college, we will have a
talk

about radio data bases, and get this - a new technology for broadcasting!
How can multiple people broadcast over the internet or even the radio
from
different studios in different continents, and both send music in
glorious

stereo quality with minimal latency? Yes it is possible, we have done it,
and we'll show you how. And the highlight of our show - a very special
announcement about new and amazing services for our station, something
you've all been waiting for.
This all happens on Innovations, which first airs on Tuesday at 17UTC,
that's 1pm US Eastern, 10am US pacific, and 7pm in Central Europe only on

default sound device in vista home premium

2009-08-09 Thread Alex Stone
Having recently upgraded to Vista, I'm having some trouble changing my default
sound output device. I have a usb headset which I want to use for Skype etc,
however, I want Vista sound to come out of my speakers. I've looked in sound in
control panel, but it's not obvious to me how I go about changing things so
that default sound doesn't go to the usb headset. Any help would be most
welcome!

Switch Sound file converter will do what you want. The FAQ on the
formats it supports, which includes a link to download the program, is
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/kb/747.html
. This is a 14 day trial for Switch+. After the 14 days, it still
works, but you don't get the features in the paid version any more.
Converting from MP4to WMA seems to be in the free version though.

I know this doesn't answer your question on Goldwave.

Okay, when I used the xitel inport, I would have to go to the Jaws ini file

sound card. Then I would go into control panel sounds and check the box
saying to use the default setting. Do I have to do that with this one?

Peter,

I don't think my IMic continually tried to steal away the default soundcard
assignment, the way that my Logitech headset tries to do, and as most other
USB devices try to do, as well. But, if you have this problem, you should
simply edit jfw.ini, to force JAWS to use the output device you wish it to,
regardless of which device has the default output device assignment. Do you
know how to do this?

And, no, the Soundblaster Live 24bit external doesn't continually try to
steal the default device assignment, just the logitech headset does that.

Hi Donna, that is exactly what I want to do as well. My entire cd
collection is now in my external hard drive. But the tapes contain loads of
tunes from back in the day. Some quite hard to find. Then there's the
vinyl! I used a thing called an inport by xitel but it kept knocking jaws
out. Your SB device didn't do that?

That's a good additional feature, but I will just turn on the external
player and hit record on Goldwave. My only worry then will be that the
sound levels are okay. I still haven't learned where those controls are in
GW.

Thanks! Namaste!

A couple of years ago, I replaced my IMic with the Soundblaster Live!
External USB 24-bit soundcard, mainly because I wanted to have the "what you
hear" feature, which the IMic does not support. However, before that, I used
the IMic, very happily, for two or three years. I used it while digitizing
my old cassette collection, with Goldwave.

Sorry to hear it's become hard to obtain. It's an excellent little device,
for the price. Its only drawback is that it doesn't support "what yu hear,"

there is a los of quality, like a headphone jack, just doesn't put out

Re: Is there a device that will let you play a thumb drive through astario?

2008-10-12 Thread Alex Follo
Well, I wanted to be able to use it not near a computer, and I do not
like the sound quality of headphone jacks. I was wondering if there
was a component like a CD player that can read thumb drives, and or
flash cards.

Is there a device that will let you plug in a thumb drive and act like
a CD player, reading the songs, and sending them through RCA to a
stario receiver? I would apppreciate any advice on a product that
would do this?

Re: Magic Jack experiences

2008-10-08 Thread Alex Follo
I Liked it! Its much cheaper than the alternatives, and it is easy
enough to use with Jaws 8.0. Overall its a really good product for the
price and has decent sound quality if using a regular phone (I have
not tried it with my mic and PC speakers). One thing that does bother
me is the 3way calling. The only way u can 3way is if you ask the 3rd
person to call you. Another thing, its a bandwidth hog. I have to shut
things such as downloads down before I can use it.

2007-09-28 Thread alex
Hay here's the info:
The website of the company that makes the motherboard is:
www.biostar.com.tw
The motherboard is model number viakm266
The enhanced audio comptroller is viaac'97.
The soundcard (i think) is: Km266-8235/7-6a6lyb09c
If you can find the appropriate drivers for an XP machine reply with the
link.
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter:

RE: CDEX file conversion questions

2006-10-07 Thread Alex K
Hi,
It doesn't matter whether you rip CD tracks into .wav first, and then
compress the tracks afterwards, or if you do it as the CD tracks are being
ripped. When you choose to rip tracks to a compressed file, it first
converts the track to a .wav file, converts it, then deletes the file.
As for reducing the bitrate of an already existing MP3 file, it doesn't
matter if you convert it to wav first or not, because when you convert a
file to wav, it does not improve or reduce the quality of audio. So there
would be no difference in the mp3 files.

I'd convert to wave and them compress that way you get less generation loss.

My wording is a bit tedious, but here it goes.
Using CDEX, if I rip a CD track to .wav and then later decide to convert
this wav file to an mp3, is the quality result the same as ripping the track
to mp3 in the first place. One more question, I understand if I have the
original wav file, converting to the desired mp3 bit rate on the first go
round gives the best results. However, if I have an already existing mp3
file that needs to be further reduced, is it best to go ahead and compress
the file as is, or first convert to wav, then compress? Thank you very much.
