Thanks to all who responded to my request for information on the DS-50.

I already have the Sony PCM D-50, but I'm looking for something to use
at my job. I use the Sony for field recording, but don't want to leave
it in my office, hence looking at other things.

Could Dean and Audrey please contact me off list.

Hi,

Try pressing alt+down arrow after you have pressed enter to open the combo box.
This should lock the combo box open so you can arrow up and down it to select

I need some quick help here. I cant seem to get the combo box to change to

person. I can get to the combo box where it says Select, 1 of 6, but when I
try to do this, it pulls up the link of the team I do not want. I always
thought you hit enter to turn the forms mode on and then you could arrow up
and down through the combo box, but the first time I hit the down arrow
button it pulls up the link I dont want. What can I do? Thanks for any

winamp playlist question

2007-05-17 Thread Allen
Hi,

I am using Winamp 5.35 on Vista Home Premium. I've created a playlist, at
least Winamp said that 25 items were added to my test playlist name. I can see
the name of my playlist which is test, but when I select it and press enter,
the Window closes, and if I press x to play, it asks me for a file name.

How do I play files in my Test playlist? I also have Shuffle selected.

Subject: Them little round plastic things

 Hi all!
I'm a user of 2 very different computer systems here, I use standard
PC'S with Windows and LINUX and I use my trusty Mac so when I heard
about a small sound device that could be plugged into all my machines
without any need for drivers I was most interested hence the arrival
 of my Imic today.
I felt cheated there for a while when i received the box, something
as small as this promising me good audio quality? My missgivings
increased upon the opening of the box to discover that the Imic is
about 1 and a half inches round, it looks almost comical, like one of
those toys we used to play with as kids, like an oversized watch or a
standard sized lollypop but the outside looks I can assure you having
tested this little beauty are truly deceptive.
The Imic plugs into a USB 2.0 port of your computer and as I've
already stated, whether you're a fan of your Mac or of your PC makes
no difference whatsoever, just plug the Imic in and you have another
sound device, great for those laptop systems that don't have a full
 sound device built-in.
The layout of the Imic is extremely simple, just 2 3.5MM minijack
stereo sockets and 1 switch. One socket is for line-out whilst the
other is for line-in/stereo microphone, the switch toggles the line-
in socket between microphone and line-in.
So how does it perform? just as good as any other sound card or
device as I said earlier, I'm amazed.
How do you know its connected? With the Mac you see it available as
an audio input/output device. In Windows, you'll see it in the list
of audio devices under the audio tab in Sound.
How much is an Imic? An absolute steal at $50.00 Australia, that's
 what I paid for mine.
A CD ROM comes with the Imic but as yet I haven't examined its
contents, I've had no need to.

The Tuner2 home page at www.tuner2.com is another place where you can
search for and listen to a variety of Internet stations. Below is
some information about this home page. -Steve.

Tuner2 lists the best of the best in Internet radio, exclusively
 featuring stations
broadcasting in MPEG-4 HE-AAC/aacPlus from Coding Technologies.
 Stations using aacPlus
have great audio quality and less rebuffering.
Tuner2 tracks the number of artists played on each station and lists
 stations with

Locating a specific Podcast

2006-07-29 Thread David Allen
Hello!

I am appreciative of all those that employ some sort of naming convention in
distributing their podcasts. Those who don't sure cause problems. I subscribe
to one that seems to employ a naming scheme that I can't fathom. I've written
to the webmaster of the site about it and he has responded. Obviously, they are
aware of the problem. They claim they anticipate changing it to cause the
filenames to make more sense, but they don't seem to know how soon they will do
this. Now I suppose that many podcasts don't really have a prescribed order.
But even if that is true, it would certainly be easier to locate specific ones
in the folder if some thought were given to creating filenames that made sense.

So far, the only strategy that I've been able to find to combat this is by
manually reviewing the files and renaming them as best I can. Does anyone here
have a better way of managing this?

Cheers,
Dave

Lax time-keeping on internet radio

2006-07-27 Thread David Allen
Hello:

I've set up Total recorder to capture internet radio streams. The down side of
doing this is that you are dependent on that station to follow the schedule
they publish. Today, I set up a recording that allowed for a recording of 1
hour 5 minutes to capture a scheduled broadcast of 1 hour. When I checked the
recording, the programme I wanted began around 25 minutes into my recording.
This didn't happen because my computer's clock was off. But my point is I only
got half the programme I intended. Fortunately, this ended up being a repeat
broadcast so I haven't actually missed anything, and this has done no harm. I
don't know what happened, but obviously, the station was running on auto-pilot
because random music played for the first 25 minutes of my recording. If
internet broadcasters expect to be taken seriously, they need to pay a bit
closer attention to maintaining the schedule they promise.

Cheers,
Dave

the show hosts also offer a podcast or download of the same content at a

If you think verification is the only problem with allofmp3.com, think

Hi Trace and list:

I last tried about 10 last night my time. I actually got the Email claiming
the tracks were ready. I right clicked on the link and chose save as.
Internet Explorer said the page was unavailable.

The album is Long Time Comin by Shenandoah.

I'll try again shortly because I've kept the Emails that claim the tracks
are ready. I can try it from both those Emails and in the basket, but
according to yesterday's experience, the results will be the same. That
isn't to say that I haven't had some success with the site. I have, but when
it comes to this album, it never works!

I posted a question about this in their assistance section at one point and
actually got a response back, claiming that it had been fixed, but my
attempts to download the tracks after receiving that were no different than

Allofmp3 registration

2006-07-22 Thread David Allen
Hello:

Well bullocks! I wondered what this allofmp3 thing was about since I noticed it
mentioned a lot here. So I chanced to check it out tonight. Neat place! Had no
trouble finding something I wanted and thought the price superb! I read their
agreement and have no issue with it. I don't mind having to sign up for an
account and all, but then I find the problem. They employ visual verification
as part of the signup process. They offer no alternative. I'm totally blind.
Their help section offers no answer. I may be able to find sighted help to get
through this, but I can't guess exactly when or how at this point. In the short
term, is there something here that I've missed?

Cheers,
Dave

Re: Allofmp3 registration

2006-07-22 Thread David Allen
Hi Andre:

Found a sightling to get me around the dreaded verification. We have a kind
of unscored running agreement. When I need eyes for such things, she does
it. When she needs an answer to a tricky computer thing that seems hard to
understand, I bring it clearer. It's one of the best little arrangments I've
ever made!

Ironic to see you answering me on this since I just downloaded a track that
had me thinking of you. I first heard it on a radio show which I need to get
you tuned into. Will be in touch via Skype.

Cheers,
Dave

 Hi Dave!

Unfortunately not. The only way you could get around this is to get a
sighted person to help with the verification.

But once you get around it the sight is a breeze to work with - and as
 you
said the prices are terrific. And I can guarantee you quite a lot of the
 kind of music we like.

 Andre

Re: Allofmp3 registration

2006-07-22 Thread David Allen
Hi Trace and list:

Fortunately, I found a way to do what was required, but they didn't get my
money nearly as soon as they would have if they operated without that visual
verification.

Unfortunately, you can't Email their help desk until you're registered, so
it becomes the ultimate catch 22. But anyway, all is now well.

Cheers,
Dave

I believe Goldwave and Total Recorder are at least two programmes that

 Hi,

I'm looking for an accessible MP3 and wave file splitter with silence
detection. I've tried searching Google for this, but haven't had any luck
 so
far. Does someone know of such a program?

Re: Total Recorder 6.0 Accessability

2006-07-22 Thread David Allen
Hi Roden and list:

The trial of Total Recorder is fully functional. What sets it apart from a
registered version is the brag screen you always get when opening an
unlicensed copy, as well as the extra little noise it inserts about every
sixty seconds or so in your recordings. Once you've verified by using the
trial that it will work for your purposes, registering it is cheaper than
some solutions.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for your response. I will try to download the trial and once I
have enough budget, I will buy my license copy.

Re: Total Recorder 6.0 Accessability

2006-07-20 Thread David Allen
Hi Sunsine and list:

Darrell's description was on the money. Of course, the minute I picked up
the phone (activating the Internet phone wizard), my record and playback
device settings in Skype were forced back to the Internet phone wizard,
which Total Recorder definitely doesn't like. Now I need to find a way
around that (preferably without going to a lot of trouble).

Cheers,
Dave

Total Recorder 6.0 Accessability

2006-07-19 Thread David Allen
Hello list:

I've received a notice that Total Recorder Professional Edition 6.0 has now
been released.

I'm successfully using Total Recorder 5.3 for a number of tasks. But naturally,
there is no indication in the notice to suggest whether 6.0 would necessarily
be better in terms of accessability than 5.3. So I thought perhaps someone on
this list may have the benefit of some experience to offer.

I am running TR 6 to record Skype calls and haven't noticed any
accessibility changes one way or the other, so I believe you should be
