Problems Playing Radio Stations in Winamp
Hello all list members, I wish to listen to WUFT in Winamp. But when I went to WUft's website, I got a message that said, "Winamp 5.58 not available." What is it that I'm doing wrong? And is there a way to get this radio station to play in Winamp? Thinks in advance! My best regards, John. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Recording Live Audio Streams
Hello all list members, I have an audio question that involves the computer. But however, I'm not asking for myself, I am asking on the behalf of a friend of mind. Here is her question. I would like to know if you can tell me how to burn a CD? I am asking because I want to get the music that family radio has and I would like to get the music that Rewound radio has also. Re: winamp defult.
Hello David, Do an alt+p, that will put you in the preference menu. Tab over to file types. Check the file types that you want Winamp to play, then tab over to the ok button and hit either the space bar or inter key on it. So next time you play those audio files, they will play in Winamp. Hope this helps. My best regards. Re: Winamps audio playback capabilities
Hello Dain, It all depends if you're working in the mane window. If the mane window is open, then you can pretty much go back to where you left off. I haven't figured out how to create play list or sink files to an mp3 player using Winamp yet, perhaps someone else on the list can answer that part of your question. Hope this helps you a little bit. My best regards. John. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, September 19, 2010 6:00 PM Subject: Winamps audio playback capabilities Hi1 This message may e a little long-winded so please excuse and bare with me. One thing I like about Itunes is the ability of Itunes to remember what songs I've played and how many times I've played them, you can using this memory create "favourite" playlists for example so those songs you play often are automatically added to that list so you can Sync it with your Iphone and no that when you're on the move you'll only hear those songs you like when you start playing the Ipod, so far so very good. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Yamaha TSX_130 clock radio on Thursday which includes amongst other things a multi-format audio CD player, an Ipod dock and a port for a USB memory stick so here's the question, I'd like to start using memory sticks with the Yamaha and I have Winamp on the Windows PC, is there a similar function in Winamp or a way using Winamp that I can have my most frequently play songs remembered and copied to the Memory stick in a similar way as illustrated in the above example with Itunes? And finally, for those wanting to know more about the Yamaha TSX-130? I plan to cover that in more detail in a future email and if you have one of these little beauties? Hello Dain, I finally got your review. It was slower then what I'm use too in downloading, but I got it anyway. But I have just one question. When using a PC, do you just have to use iTunes? Or, can you use another media player such as, Windows Media Player or Winamp? Thinks in advance. My best regards. When you select the Regular speed download button you'll be taken to the "Download" page for the file. Yes as a paid Sendspace member I could have put the file up with a direct link but I'd be asking for trouble as there are email pests out there which forward each and every email that comes under their nose without any thought or consideration for anyone else so its safer to use this method. Solving Problems With Switch Audio File Converter
Hello List Members, I am addressing this to Tom. I am using Switch and Wave Pad and a few other peaces of software from NCH. It is like George told you, if you go in to control panel and add and remove programs and in to Switch. And click on add or remove program. Right there, you will find a set of radio buttons. One of those, is labeled, "downgrade to free version." Click on that, and that message and or dialog will go away for good. Re: regarding soundcards and hi-fi's
Hello John, Then the suggestion I made to you, is correct. An FM radio transmitter that is hooked up to the line out jack of your sound card, will serve you best. Even with running long cables, you are looking at a grater resistance. Which means, you will loose some of the audio signal before it gets from point a to point b. The shorter the cable, the lesser the resistance. Hope this helps. My best regards. Re: regarding soundcards and hi-fi's
Hello Garry, Those are pretty good too as well. But if I were to get a DA converter, I would look for two things. #1. Sense I will be using it with my computer, I would look for the DA converter to have some kind of USB inter face. #2. Just about all of my equipment has vacuum tubes in it. So to stay true to that tube sound, I would look for the DA converter to have a pare of 12AX7 tubes on the analog output stage. Those are out there, but they cost some what a pretty penny. Hello Garry, In some places here in the USA, there isn't a Best Buy. So your only choices are Wal-mart and RadioShack unless you want to get someone to drive you out of your home town in order to buy a receiver that has those kind of inputs. Re: microphone input to computer
Hello Howard, That idea will work but, the cassette deck will have to be on record in order for it to work. But now, the draw back with your Sound Max intigrated sound card is, you can't monictor the recording while it's being made. Just something for you to think about. But if you really to record sounds in stereo, a 6 channel mike mixer will do the trick for you. Just plug the mikes in to it and pan one to the right and the other one to the left. But the mixer will have to be pluged in to your line in on your sound card. Again, just something for you to think about. Re: regarding soundcards and hi-fi's
Hello Howard, Yes, you can buy a stereo receiver that has a digital input. But don't go to places like Wal-Mart and or RadioShack to look for this kind of a beast, because you won't find it there. Those receivers are about $1500 and up. And they are made by companies like Dennon Onkeo Marance and Crell just to name a few. You will find these receivers in specialty high end stereo shops. Re: connecting?
Hello Curtis, The answer to that question on both accounts, is no. Here is the reason why. Your USB headphone microphone combo is using a digital to analog converter. I done some explaining a while back on this list to a gentleman that wanted to hook his stereo amp up to his computer. But in order for that to work, you will need a digital to analog converter that uses some kind of USB inter face. But as far as switching that to strait analog to use with a Victor Stream, You would have to work it the other way around. Instead of being digital to analog, you would have to go analog to digital. As far as I know of, nobody has come up with a unit that will do that. Hope this helps. My best regards. Hello Dan, I have my computer and stereo system hooked up like that right now. But only, I'm using an old Fisher 500-c stereo receiver that has vacuum tubes in it that was made in 1963. My speakers are comprised of 2 Jensen P12N alnico drivers in each cab that are crossed over to 20 HZ for woofers and a Jensen 8QR alnico driver in each cab that are crossed over to 60 HZ for mid ranges and 4 horns in each cab that are also crossed over to 256 HZ for the high end. I get pretty close to studio quality sound from this set up, and it sounds grate! I did once have a pare of 32 watt mono block tube amps that I built from a set of S-5 Electronic kits, but I lost them in a tornado a copal of years ago right along with my house that was also destroyed in the tornado as well. But the good news is, I am in a brand new house. So I was able to reconfigure my whole system to sound like I once did before. My best regards. The H1 gets its stereo imaging from its onboard microphones configured in an X/Y pattern. According to Zoom, because both mics are arranged on the same axis, they are equidistant from the sound source for perfect localization and no phase shifting, resulting in great stereo recordings with natural depth and accurate imaging. Likewise one side of the recorder sports a 1/8-inch stereo line input, USB port, Power On switch, and Hold switch. The H1 records on microSD cards and comes with a 2 GB card. Using a 32 GB microSD card allows for over 50 hours of recording time at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz quality. Hello George, Where can I find this peace of software? I understand what you said about converting the source to MP3, but I prefer to use .wav files. I prefer those, because they are lossless audio files. Sound quality is what I'm going for here. The higher the sound quality, the happier my ears are. Hello David, No, I don't have an external USB sound card. But my computer does have two sound cards in it. It has the SOUND MAX sound card which is integrated in to the motherboard. And it also has a Sound Blaster Odicy 4 series sound card that I installed myself. Everything is going through it. Hello Tom, Here are the steps to do that. #1. Launch Switch. #2. Tab over to the open button and hit either space bar or inter on it. #3. Tab over to the folder you have the file in and highlight it. #4. Tab over to the options menu. #5. You will see a combo box that has the different bit rate settings in it. There are 17 of them you can choose from. #5. Scroll up or down to the one you want. #6. Tab over to the ok button and hit either space bar or inter on it. #7. Re: Veronica FM transmitter
Hello Bob, I will order the booster buffer amplifier first. It cost $200 more then the transmitter itself. This little preamp, runs about $600. And it's made by Eastern Electric. The company is basted inn china, but their importer is in the state of Illinois. The preamp uses a pare of 6BM8 pentode triode tubes and a 6CA4 tube for rectification. And when I get the transmitter, that preamp will go in between the transmitter and mixer. By doing this, my transmitter and mixer will sound like they have tubes in them. If you want to know more about the booster buffer amplifier, go to: www.morningstaraudio.com My best regards. You certainly don't want to occupy a frequency that might be used on occasion for emergency purposes! Keep the power very low and you should be fine. For most people the FM-100mws unit is more than adequate for whole house broadcasting, as it is built for this purpose in a compact unit witha rubber ducky antenna. I think that the pricing is the same for both the FM-100mws and the 3 watt unit, although the front panel is slightly different. The bottom line is that these units appear to be well constructed with metal and not plastic cases. In my opinion well worth the 300-bucks that one is going to have to shell out. Keep in mind that you are going to have to back off the power in order to keep the unit within the limits set out by the FCC. Personally I think that the FCC ruling might be a little restrictive, as there are those who would like to use these units as a whole house broadcaster, and cover an area that would be slightly over 200 feet. I find that some of the cheaper units fail miserably even 50 feet away from the transmitting source with dropout and questionable reception. Having said that personally I would go with the 3 watt unit, but there again this is my opinion, and take it for what its worth. Keep in mind that opened full throttle with a good antenna, 3 watts could easily cover an average city! Oh by the way don't forget the 10 to 1 ratio that I spoke about in a previous post! Hello Bob, I thought about all of that, that's why I will go to: www.radio-locator.com and look for unused FM radio frequencies in my area. This way, I won't broadcast over someone else's radio station. If I stay at the side that's closest to my house, then I wouldn't need anymore then about 3 or 4 watts. But if I go to the other side of the park which is the furthers distance from my house, then I mite need a little more power to pick up my music. But anyway, thinks for the tips! My best regards. Hello, I understand what you're talking about. But however, I never had any problems placing credit card orders over the phone. But when I placed an order over the net using my credit card, somebody hacked in to that server and stole mine and everybody else's credit card info. Allot of people myself included, had to fight the unauthorized charges that were put on our credit cards. So next time I need to order a peace of audio equipment, I learned to look for a phone number. If one isn't found, that company doesn't get my business. Re: Have Downloaded "Switch"..Now What?
High Tom, When you first bring up Switch, tab over to where it says, "browse button." After you get there, hit either the space bar or the inter key. After that, it will allow you to place the files in wherever folder in any place on your computer. After you've selected the folder you want the files to go in to, just tab over to the ok button and hit either the space bar or the inter key and then tab over to the convert button and hit the space bar on it. Now, Switch will convert the files and save them in to that folder. Hope this helps. My best regards. Disc Man With Antiskip
High all list members, Just as the tidal says,I am looking for a disc man with antiskip. I don't want it for me, I want it for my wife. She just got a used car that has a cassette deck in it. But rather then listening to cassettes, she'd much rather listen to CD's. But the thing is, we don't have the money to upgrade the car stereo system. So the cheapest solution to that problem is, a disc man with anti skip and a cassette adapter. I'm open to all suggestions! Thinks in advance! My best regards. John. Re: Administrative Information
Hello Tom, Maybe you need to rethink the way you do some things. A blind guy had a problem with internet explorer 8. If you really done your home work on it, you would have learned, that internet explorer 8 does a better job of letting you listen to live streaming audio via the net. Internet Explorer 8 has a way better user face with Windows Media Player and Winamp then Internet Explorer 7. I don't know too much about how to use that, so I'll leave that up to someone else to explain that to you. This is why I said you need to broaden your view because your views are a little too narrow. And to add insult to injury, you didn't even let that message show upon the list so that other people could read it and decide for themselves if rather they agree with me on it or not. So in that regard, you are in error because you are violating people's right to freedom of speech. Now don't get mad, I'm just telling it like it is. Lighten up a little! If you done that, you wouldn't have people getting mad at you and telling you to take this list and shove it up your but. Take care! John. - Original Message - From: "Tom" To: Sent: Monday, June 21, 2010 1:26 PM Subject: Administrative Information Ladies and gentlemen, The message posted by Christopher Chaltain a few hours ago states perfectly the purpose for this list and he says it much better than I can. I do not intend to insult or be critical of anyone. My only intent is to keep messages posted to this list relevant to audio software, hardware and closely related subjects. The list was started eleven or twelve years ago by Jonathan Mosen specifically for discussing working with audio on a computer. A few years ago I set up a poll asking the membership if they would want the subject matter of the list to be expanded to include consumer audio products, since these products are often used in conjunction with a computer, and a large percentage of those who voted said yes, so, now messages about audio receivers, amplifiers etc. are permitted. There are approximately five hundred subscribers to this list. I think we who post to the list should be considerate of those subscribers who are here because it's an audio related list and not cause an increase of list traffic discussing issues and subjects that are off topic. Thank you, Tom, list administrator. Re: Off topic posts [was "RE: internet 8"]
Hello, I am gonna way in on this subject for what it's worth. When you shut down blind people in this manner, you are in a way insulting them. Just as what was said in an earlier post, sighted people assess information on their computers by what they see. Us blind people, don't have a choice but to assess information by reading brail or by listening to it. In the latter case, our ears are our eyes. If you take away a blind person's ability to hear, you take away his/her ability to see. That's what screen readers do for us. This is my opinion for what it's worth, but in order for this list to be a true PC AUDIO list, you need to broaden your view of things because your views are a little too narrow. John. - Original Message - From: "Adrian Spratt" To: "'PC Audio Discussion List'" Sent: Sunday, June 20, 2010 11:13 PM Subject: RE: Off topic posts [was "RE: internet 8"] This is good advice; Tom would make his life easier by identifying himself as the moderator when making these decisions. Because he hasn't checked in since this post, I'll confirm that he is the moderator. There isn't a better one out there. For what it's worth, I agree that a question about how JAWS works with IE8 isn't right for this list. The answer, as implied by another lister and that would be given more appropriately on a JAWS list, is that this particular error message in IE8 indicates that the user needs to upgrade JAWS. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Sunday, June 20, 2010 9:00 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: Off topic posts [was "RE: internet 8"] Are you the moderator of the list Tom, and if so, were you speaking as the moderator? That's just my advice. BTW, I agree that the post in question was off topic, and I don't have any problem with you pointing that out. As you know though, PC audio is a pretty pervasive topic, so I think a lot of leniency is called for on such a list, and in general, I think it's been a pretty lenient list. Re: Confirm after download
Hello Steve, I installed JAWS on a computer for a young lady that had Vista on it. I noticed, that none of the file types were displayed. I often wondered how to fix this in Vista and also, Windows 7. Next month, I'm getting a Mack for my birthday. I will be installing Windows 7 on it just so that I can run some Windows applications. But if I start working with audio and video files, I want to see the extensions. So if you or anyone on this list can give me some pointers on how to make that happen, that would be a big help to me. Thinks in advance! My best regards. John. - Original Message - From: "Steve Pattison" To: "PC Audio" Sent: Sunday, June 13, 2010 7:35 AM Subject: Fwd: Confirm after download Hi all, I'm forwarding this message for John Machin who is a friend of mine. Regards Steve. From:J & P Machin john-...@bigpond.com Hi Steve, I am not currently subscribed to the pc-audio list. I believe you are and wonder if you can do me a favour by asking the list members if anyone can help me through you or directly with information about where I can make changes in Window 7 to what was known in Windows 98 and Windows XP as "Confirm after download". In Windows XP, I was able to take the following steps to access the "Confirm after download" checkbox for specific file types. However, Vista and Windows 7 apparently have a different way of setting the equivalent option. Here are the steps to achieve this feature in Windows XP which I think I got from members of PC-audio some years ago. CONFIRM OPEN AFTER DOWNLOAD Sometimes an email or other document will present a direct URL in the text on a line by itself. If you put the cursor on the beginning of the URL, Windows will go directly to the file address on that web site. What happens then depends on the settings in Windows Explorer for that particular file type. For example, if the file concerned is an MP3 type, Windows will do one of two things. In scenario 1, the file will be downloaded to a temporary location on your computer. Then, the file will be automatically opened and played. At the end of the playing, you may have trouble finding the temporary file on your drive to re-play or copy it. In scenario 2, a menu in the form of a dialog box appears giving you the option of opening the file or saving it to your computer in a location of your choice. If your computer responds according to scenario 1, you can make a couple of adjustments in Windows Explorer to give you scenario 2 for specific file types. Window Explorer lists hundreds of file types in numeric-alphabetic order according to the file name extension. Each extension has various settings so Windows knows how each file type is to be handled. Apart from pressing enter on the direct file address in an email or document, you can also type the direct URL address manually in the edit box in the Run feature on the Start menu. Again, this will present you with either scenario 1 or 2 in the same way. Let's say, you need to setup Windows Explorer to give you the option to open or save MP3 files. Then, follow the steps below. 1. Press the Windows key+E to open Windows Explorer. Alternatively, select: Start Menu, Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer and press Enter. 2. Press ALT+t to pull down the Tools menu. 3. Press O to select Folder Options. The Folders options Property Box opens with three tab pages. Namely, General, View, and File Types. 4. Press Shift+Tab to move focus to the General Tab 5. Press the right arrow key to move focus to the View tab. 6. Press the right Arrow key once more to move focus to the File Types tab. You will then be at the top of a list view of Registered File Types. 7. Press the down Arrow key to move down through the list of file types till you get to highlight MP3. If you go past it, use the Up arrow to move back through the list. As the list is long, type the letter M to jump to extensions beginning with that letter. . 8. With MP3 highlighted, press Tab to move focus to the Advance button. Jaws will say something like: "MP3 details advance. 9. Press enter to open the Advance dialog. 10. Tab about seven times until you find the Check box labelled: Confirm open after download. This box needs to be checked to enable scenario 2 above. 11. If the box is not checked, press the Space bar to check it. 12. Press Tab to move focus to the next item which is a Check box labelled: Always show extension. You might like to have this box checked. 13. If the box isn't checked, press the spacebar to check it. 14. Press tab once more to move focus to the next item which is the Okay button and press enter to save changes. However, if you don't want to keep any changes, press tab to the Cancel button and press enter. 15. Press ALT+F4 to close Windo
Re: Converting stereo .mp3s to mono
Hello Joel, I could be a little off here, but converting the file to *.wav is the only way you'll be able to change the phonics of the file from stereo to mono. But like I said, you can convert the files back to *.mp3. But only, the new *.mp3 files will be in mono rather then stereo. The files that are on store bought CD's, are*.cda. Hope this helps. Re: a good mixer for live broadcasting?
Hello Robert, I'm quite sure, there are adapters for that too as well. The last time I traveled to West Germany, I had to not only buy step down power transformers, I also had to buy special adapter plugs to put at the end of those transformers. But please understand, this was some 15 years ago. West Germany is where my wife is from, so ultimately, she knew where to find them when we got there. So if these adapter plugs can be found here in the states, you may need to ask an electrical supplier or ask someone at RadioShack. My best regards. Re: audio on a USB PORT
Hello Howard, It all depends on how the amp was made. If the amp was designed with a USB input port, then chances are, that the amp has a digital to analog converter built in to it. Plugging an amp like that in to your USB port, will give you audio. But however, your computer will see that amp as an external sound card. But like I told you about your headphone microphone combo, the converter will convert the digital signal in to an analog signal. The only other way you will get analog to and from your USB port, is to use a USB sound card. Just plugging a USB cable in to your computer and hooking the other end of it in to your amp or speakers won't do that for you. Hope this helps. My best regards. I guess somehow I thought the USB was a be all and do all and would have lines for analog audio? Guess not, huh? Thanks for the info. However, this device is inside of your headphone mike combo. You are getting the audio as an analog signal, but your device is converting the bit streams of 0's and 1's in to the analog signal that you are receiving when you listen through your headphones. The same thing is happening when you talk through your mike. Hope this helps. My best regards. Is audio actually carried on any of these conductors? Ideally it would be 6 conductors for audio: two each for stereo output, high level input, and low level input. However, it seems that anything I've read points to serial data only, and is only a port through which one could connect an external audio device. I have a stereo headset with a mic that connects to a USB port. I wonder what kind of data is being passed up that wire? Wonder if anyone has any thoughts (or, perhaps, some real knowledge). Thanks. Re: HOW USB PORTS WORK
High Tom, Woops, my bad. I mint to tell the list, that the USB 3.0 would make transferring audio/video files a hole lot quicker. But right now, it is still in the experimental stage. Once they get it all worked out, It will take less time to sink audio/video files to your MP3 players and iPods. My best regards. This type of comment is not appropriate for the PC Audio list. Thank you, Tom ** Message From: DJ DOCTOR P ** High Robert, I heard they're coming up with USB 3.0. So they say, it is suppose to be faster then USB 1.0 and 2.0 put together. I read that in smart computing and PC WORLD. Again, so they say, it will be integrated in to the Windows 7 operating system and some OXX operating systems for the Mack. My best regards. John.
