Re: Napster question

2008-02-08 Thread Jim Fettgather
I have found that you can subscribe for $9.95 a month, and for that price,
you can stream any of their massive collection at any time, create play
lists and libraries, and listen too entire albums without difficulty.

I have checked for both obscure and well known titles, and have found all of
them on the site.

Re: Amazon MP3 download service now available

2007-09-29 Thread Jim Fettgather
I experienced trouble downloading an album using the Amazon downloader.
The Internet Explorer information bar came up when i clicked on the choice
to download the album.
I accessed the information bar menu and chose download file.
That was the only choice that made sense.
However, all of a sudden I received a message thanking me for my purchase,
except I hadn't downloaded any music yet.
I couldn't figure out a way to download the same album again, when I tried,
I got a message suggesting that I have already purchased this album.
I remembered that each account has a media library.
I didn't think this would work, but I went to the media library associated
with my account, and sure enough, all of the tracks from the album were
there.
I had to download them one at a time, but that was fine, at least I have the
album.
I'm not sure exactly what, if anything, I did incorrectly with the internet
explorer information bar.
However, if I have any problems downloading any future albums, at least I
know that they are stored in the Amazon media library.

I've looked at the site, it sounds fabulous.
I have registered, downloaded and installed the Bluebeat player, but now, I
get this message when trying to launch a station:

Unable to communicate with audio device:

I'm not sure what this all means, but I have an email into technical
support, so we'll see what they say.
Accessibility of the site sure looks great.
Thanks.

hello

If you want to customize your station, go to:

http://www.bluebeat.com

Its free, its great, and I love it. Don't get me wrong, launchcast is great
too, but you can't beat 320 kbps. If you don't want to customize your
station, simply go to killer playlists or time machine, and choose from
about 100 genres, ranging from country to just plain wierd, in all aeras of
time from the 1920s onwards, if you so desire. Just download the plug in for
windows media player, set up an acount and your all ready to go. I live in
canada, therefore, can't make my own station due to copyright, however, this
sure as heck doesn't make it a less enjoyable experience, as there are about
a million stations to choose from, not to mention you can browse by artists,
album etc, genre, too. Adding songs to your "crate" or station as you so
choose. I absolutely love it- and hope you do, too!

Blue beat loves hearing from us blind users- I e-mailed them about an
accessibility on there website, and got a prompt response, asking me what
they could do to fix the problem.

I can't say enough about how unknown this website is, how nobody knows about
it. Its one of the best, and it makes launchcast look bad in comparison.
But, I'm on dialup, so its sort of dificult for me to get in there, the
minimum bitrate is 160, so I recommend having a dsl or higher connection
speed, I'm getting high speed tomorrow, so if you need more help, I'll be
happy to add more detailed instructions about things.

hope that helps,
Tyler

2007-09-24 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello to the list.
I have joined the Yahoo! LaunchCast Plus service and it seems like there's a
great variety of high quality stations and formats from which to choose.
When you call up the entire list of stations, even though they're not
identified as links using Jaws, you can still press Enter on any given
station to launch it, and it plays just fine.
You can even save the station to your Favorites list and launch it that way
very quickly.

Apparently, it is possible to customize your personal station to include
artists and genres from specific formats. I'm wondering if anyone has
figured out how to do this?
I have been going round and round in circles on these pages but have not
figured this out just yet.
If anyone has successfully done this, perhaps you could let me know how you
accomplished it.
Thanks a lot.

man, for 94 cents a track, and a whole album at almost 20 bucks, why
bother when a site like Mp3 sparks or other sites give you an even
wider selection for much less money? I give Wal-mart credit for
finally getting their act together and offering downloadable mp3
songs and albums, but at $20 an album, that is just too damn much
money. If they're going to do that, sell the albums at half that
price and I bet people would be even more willing to buy them.

Hi to the list.
Now that Walmart offers some unrestricted MP3 music files for purchase, I
wanted to check it out, but have had not much luck.
I have logged in, selected Music, and then selected Downloads, and then even
found an album with all of the track listings. You can listen to any of the
tracks, each track is listed at 94 cents, and the album is listed at $18.44.
I can find no where to activate a buy button, be it a link, a button, or

I have plenty of experience on Amazon.com, but this one has me stumped and
its driving me nuts.
Any hints on buying MP3 music from this site?

I don't think that there is "one best" sight -- just a lot of
good ones
that the serious listener needs to be aware of.
One reason for saying this is that no one database has
everything.
Another reason is that different websites have differing
approaches to how
things are organized.
For example, I often use that streamingradioguide page I posted
yesterday
for its handy
having a state's listings right in front of me.
When I want to do an area search, I often use the Radio-Locator
site as it
gives me an overview of what the local radio dial looks like.
Billsparks.org works well when I have a particular call letter in
mind and
he happens to include it in his database.
Vtuner.com is also great for quick call letter searches.
MikesRadioWorld strong suite is international listing; Vtuner is
also
heavy into this.
In short, the avid internet radio listner nees to be familiar
with as many
sites as possible and figure out which one to use given the task
at hand.

Did you try up or down arrow when it asks you if you want to save the file?
In other words, search around the dialog box for an open button.

Also try using the applications key then down arrow to open.

Hi to the list.

This orb.com service seems to be very straight forward to use and is really
easy to set up.

When I click on an audio file to play after logging on to the orb.com
portal, , Internet Explorer wants me to save the stream.asx file, instead of
opening it.

Of course, I can choose to save it, and when I launch it, the audio plays
just fine!

It would be a lot less convoluted to have Windows Media Player open it
directly, that's for sure.
Windows Media Player is set to play ASX files, so, I'm not sure what's
happening.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

Re: aol radio

2007-01-18 Thread Jim Fettgather
I have really enjoyed exploring this complex site.
There has also been a bit of frustration along the way.
I may be incorrect, but I don't think that there is a way to get a page
listing all 200 stations
For example, if you click on the link for classical music and the station
starts to play, only then can you find listings for other classical formats.
I had to press Shift Enter to launch any one of the other 7 or 8 stations in
this other sub category.

Also, supposedly you can add a station to your presets, but even after
having done that, I could not find a way to access the presets.
If you could access presets, why not just add all 200 stations?

I will mention that I use Freedom box and System Access regularly on a U3
smart drive, and the combination is fabulous.
System Access gives you instant access to any modern PC in a matter of
seconds, , and of course you have your U3 applications such as Winamp,
Skype, and others, that are instnantly accessible as well.

I found out by accident that the Freedom Box has a U3
application that works on U3 smart drives - flash drives. I
installed it earlier today. Are any of you using this Freedom
Box on a U3 drive? What's your experience? I will let you know
soon my experience. I need to go to Freedom Box's website to
read up what they have there. I like to be prepared and don't
rush into things.

Basically you can stick in the U3 smart drive into any PC or
laptop and run Freedom Box and have speech and more. I have
other applications like Winamp, Skype, NetZero VOIP and some
others and all are &3 apps. Petro

Re: where are the stations added in replay AV

2006-04-02 Thread Jim Fettgather
It seems like the easiest way to add stations to the list is to go to the
media guide.
Then, find the link in the media guide labeled stations.
If you're using Jaws, you might hear something like:
images/stations
You will encounter an edit box in which you can type the name of a station.
On the resulting page, usually below the name of the station, there will be
an Add link.
When activated, the typical Add Show ReplayAv dialog should appear the
difference being that because you clicked on a station rather than a show,
there will be no scheduled recording times.
When you click OK, the station should appear in your list of shows and
stations, and can be heard by activating the Tune button by pressing Alt+T.
Hope this is helpful.

Re: how to check for updates with replay AV

2006-03-29 Thread Jim Fettgather
As far as I can tell, the latest version of ReplayAV is 7.10.
You can determine this by tabbing through the main dialog and pressing the
space bar on the about button.
I got the update this morning, and the way that it worked for me was, when i
quit and then restarted the program, I was informed of the update. It was
an 18 mb download.
Also, at least in theory, you could press the space bar on the Update button
as well.
This new version has many hotkeys to make navigating the program highly
efficient.

Joanne, I have found ReplayAv support to be quite responsive, and here is a
link to the support page for ReplayAv.

http://applian.com/replay-av/support/

Once on that page, you need to look for a button labeled:

Create Replay A/V Support Request

After activating that button, you will be able to fill in all of the details

Re: Sony NWA608 MP3 player.

2006-03-18 Thread Jim Fettgather
Earlier this week, I had written to the list regarding a similar Sony player
and the Sonic stage software that came with it.
I did receive some helpful responses regarding some work arounds using sonic
stage for which i was very appreciative, but it really did not provide total
control over the process of transfering and managing files on the Sony.
I really liked the player's design and sound.
But I ended up trading it in on a Sandisk two gigabyte player that allows
for transfering files via my computer or windows explorer.

That Sonic Stage software drove me nuts!

Hi, Clifford, thanks for the response.
I have sonic stage 3.2 now, and I wasn't sure whether programs like windows

Using real player sounds real intriguing.
I will check this out.
I'll let you know if I have any luck with Real Player.

Sonic Stage Replacement?

2006-03-14 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi to the PC Audio list.
I have recently purchased what is refered to as a Sony Network Walkman style
MP3 player.
I have played around with the Sonic Stage software that is bundled with the
player, but have had no luck trying to figure out how to transfer files or
delete files from the player using this software.
It seems like a convoluted process, and of course, this player will not
recognize files transfered via Windows Explorer.
There was one program that I found for a Sonic stage replacement, but this
software also did not support keyboard navigation, only drag and drop
methods.

Anyone else have any better luck with this combination?

Re: Replay Shortcuts

Hi to the list, I also am curious to know which version of ReplayAv has
added these shortcut keys.
I don't seem to be able to get any of these shortcut keys to work, but the
program is working beautifully in every other respect. ASF files seem to be
very happy to play in Winamp.
When I press the update button, there appears to be a progress bar that is
stuck at 0 percent.
I am using Replay A/V 7.04
Thanks.

Re: replay av problems

2006-03-05 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi Ray, one thing that you might try is to first check the file size of
the audio that you are trying to play to ensure that it is the size and
length that you expect.
Also, if this is an ASF file, which is the default format for many, but not
all, ReplayAv files, check to see if it will open and play in Windows Media
Player.
The reason I'm suggesting this is that I have tried to convert ASF files to
other formats such as MP3 and have at times been unsuccessful, where only a
portion of the file would play.

Re: Replay AV

2006-03-03 Thread Jim Fettgather
Stephen, I as well think that this is a fabulous product.
I probably would not have even found the convert to mp3 function if you had
not mentioned it on the list.
It seems that you're right, while just about all of the program's functions
are keyboard accessible, this particular feature seems to need some mouse
pointer interaction.
I might suggest that you try a different WMA file, as I have had most
convert successfully, but an occasional failure, just as you described.

Seek slider control in windows media player

2006-02-27 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello to the list.
I don't know why it took me so long to find this, but if you tab around in
Windows media player you will eventually come across a seek slider control
which allows you to advance forward in the file.
All four arrow keys seem to have an effect, but I wonder if there is a way
to set just how much time each press of the right arrow key advances
forward?
It seems to be a pretty good chunk, with no way to advance in smaller
increments.
I've looked at all of the help files, so i could be missing something.

Thanks for any enlightenment on this feature.

Strange Out of Phase sound with Creative External sound card

2005-12-12 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello to the list.
After having purchased a Creative 24 bit USB external sound card, and after
having installed the software, correctly I hope, everything is coming out of
the speakers in a strange sounding way, kind of like its out of phase, or
with a very slight delay between the left and right channels.
I cannot seem to find any interface to change audio settings, and there is
certainly nothing in volume control to address this issue.
Any hints on getting this card to sound normal?
Thanks.

Re: Playing XM Radio Online

2005-09-19 Thread Jim Fettgather
The only addition I would make is that I find it necessary, at least when using
Jaws with the XM online player, to use the Insert+Escape command to update the
screen to reflect the correct title and artist information every time the song
changes.

  Hi
This information is very easy to find. Now remember folks, this is for the
*online* version of the player only.

When you log in,look near the top of the page. There's a link that says
"what's on now", so press enter on that. Now at first glance it's going to
look like that didn't do any good, but arrow down until you see each
individual channel listing. Below the channel name, you'll see the current
  song like this:
  5
  THE 50s
  The Four Coins
  Shangri-La
  Decades
Add channel 5 to your Presets
  6
  THE 60s
  Sam Cooke
  Good Times
  Decades
Add channel 6 to your Presets
  7
  THE 70s
  Sweet
  Love Is Like Oxygen
  Decades
and so on. and obviously if you'd like to add a channel to your presets
you would press the appropriate link. and there's a presets link near the
top of the page as well. Just do a bit of exploring and experimentation.
All the info is right there if you're willing to do a bit of looking around.

Re: Playing XM Radio Online

2005-09-18 Thread Jim Fettgather
I have been working with both Xstreamer and XModule.
Both programs seem to work, but appear to have no direct keyboard access, at
least none that I could locate.
With Xstreamer, you can arrow up and down the dozens of channels just fine,
but pressing enter does not initiate the stream, you must double click with
mouse keys.
I could not get XModule to work quite as well, but once again, double
clicking was necessary on a channel number to start a stream playing.

Re: didgital recorders?

2005-07-26 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi there, I have found the Sony ICD MX20 to be a great digital recorder with
very high fidelity. This recorder can use an additional memory stick, but
it records for 167 minutes in high quality stereo on its built in memory.
The recorder itself is reasonably accessible, especially with some
memorization of the menus.
What is quite phenomenal though is the software that comes with the
recorder. Virtually all of the recorder's functions can be controlled
through its software interface, and the software uses standard windows
controls so that standard keyboard navigation works just fine.

hi everyone. I've posted this to more than one list, so sorry if people
see this twice. Anyway, I was thinking of getting a didgital recorder, and
was wondering which one is most accessible for a totally blind person?
thanks for any help.

Hi Jim,

Ok, here's what I did.

It says macromedia flash movie start btn. After that by arrowing down there
are about ten lines that say btn. KMOX is the third button. So go to the
third button following the macromedia line using your down arrow and then
route jaws to PC and press the left jaws click and it should start.

The first button is KDKA, the second is one I was not familiar with and the
third is KMOX. I just listened to each one until I found KMOX.

Hi to the list.
It appears as if the new KMOX Internet stream, which can be found at
www.kmox.com
uses a Flash movie to deliver their feed, and so far I have had no luck in
activating the unlabeled buttons to start the stream.
I am wondering if anyone has had any better luck?
The fastest way to find the link to activate the player is to look for the
word NEW on the page.
I'll look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Thanks.

As far as i know, any ipod will not work with windows explorer for
transfering music and after listening it, because ipod makes special
database where the tracks are stored that its possible to listen to them.
However i also found that anapod explorer will be updated for ipod shuffle
support. I also found a free program called vpod which transfers music files
from ipod to pc and from pc to ipod, but the last version came out in 2003.
I contacted the author of the program so in a short time i hope that the
answer will be positive about ipod shuffle. Anyway i'll drop info on the
list.

Ipod Shuffle

2005-02-21 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi there, I am attempting to confirm a suspicion with the Ipod Shuffle, and
that is that music must indeed be transfered from the PC using the Itunes
software. I could not get it to work using Windows Explorer, although it
makes a fine jump drive when using this method to transfer files.
I believe that I had read that a new version of Anapod Explorer will
eventually support an alternative method to the Itunes program, but I also
wanted to make certain that Windows Explorer is not an option, unless I am
doing something incorrectly.
Thanks.

Re: accessible cd-rom burning software is available

2004-09-08 Thread Jim Fettgather
I now feel as if I must respond to this thread. The company in question,
Premier Programming, in my opinion, has created some incredibly inexpensive
software, some that are self-voicing and some meant to be used specifically
with screen reading software.
Their highly personable and responsive tech support, along with the quality
of their programs has been excellent. Most of the programs that they have
produced have demos that may be downloaded. Since CD ripping/burning
software can be a challenge, I applaud the effort and will purchase the
program, demo or not.

Did those people who produced
the software even think about, or care about making a demo or shareware or
are they just interested in ripping the blind off.
